  1. Don

    Hello

Welcome Wilcox, Country boy here that went to school in a small town. I used to catch alot of nice size bass out of small farm ponds when I was young. The nice thing about living in a small town is that when I don't know what I'm doing, there's somebody else who does Don
  2. Happy Birthday Wayne. I hope you got to go fishing. Don
  3. I googled those up about a year ago or so when I downloaded another steelhead fly, the sucker spawn. It's tied in a similar fashion using the pinch on method. I use sparkle braid for my sucker spawns. I tie the similar pattern with egg foo yarn. Egg yarn is too bulky to make many loops on top the hook so you can only make 2 or 3. It is the fly I call Eggs Bodacious that I sent in the last fly swap. Don The link below shows sucker spawn. The website has crystal meth. http://www.fishusa.com/FishErie/Flies_One.asp
  4. Step 1: Drink Roaring River Special through straw. Step 2: Sing the song. Step 3: You may choose any color you want to use at Roaring River as long as it is green. Olive is a good color down there. (Small olive wooly bugger on a jig head). Step 4: Repeat as necessary. Don
  5. Roaring River Special. It's the train that runs from Cassville to Roaring River. 'Well look a-yonder comin' Comin' on down the track Well look a-yonder comin' Comin' on down the track It's the Roaring River Special Bringin' my baby back" Really, it's a wooly bugger tied on a jig head. Don
  6. The recipe should be in here somewhere....Don http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?s...hl=dISCO+BUGGER
  7. Happy Birthday Tim. How ironic; same as opening day . Hope you survive it. Catch a few for the rest of us and thanks for all of your help and advice throughout the last several years. Don
  8. I'm digging up this topic because I've spent a little time at the bench tonight with Disco yarn. So far, I've only used Disco in green, purple, and black. As I mentioned earlier, I like matching rabbit strip tails to complete the streamer. I'll have to say, every time I've flung disco, I caught fish. Thanks jOrOb. Stayin' alive, Stayin' alive.....Don
  9. Count me in guys, I'll spread the word. Thanks.....Don
  10. DrBewley, Do you plan to eat any of the pig if you trap one? The reason I ask is that a friend showed up at camp at Little Red River a couple of years ago with a backstrap of a good-sized pig. He bowhunts them regularly in Texas every year and had some good pictures and stories to go with them. He injected the loin with creole butter and coated the outside with cajun/creole seasoning. After marinating several hours, we sliced and grilled. He said that we should not expect it to taste like pork loin bought at the grocery store. It was the first and only time I've ever eaten wild pig. Whoa son! That was good stuff . Good Luck.....Don
  11. Jeremy, That's what happens when a sculpin breeds with a parrot . Interesting fly. By the way, I just discovered your website a couple a days ago. Great patterns, instructions, and information. I'll see you at the Sowbug. Thanks.....Don
  12. Terry, you called me out. I'm convinced the Big Green Egg is the ultimate. You can blast a steak at 750 degrees or slow-smoke some pulled pork for 18 hours. I own several gas, electric, and charcoal grills and smokers. None of them come close to the quality and flavor the Egg has to offer. I grilled steaks at my dad's the other day on a gas grill because we left his Big green Egg at my house . I felt as though I was cheating on the Egg. They cost quite a bit, but on the other hand, so do many fly rods and fly reels. The eggers also have a forum on their website. Like OAF members, they post alot of pics and recipes of their passion. http://www.biggreenegg.com/ Good Grillin', Don
  13. Steve, It has served as both at one time or another. I don't have a digital camera, but I'll eventually post some details in the Fly Recipes section. Don
  14. Mine will be in the mail tomorrow as well. I tied the Eggs Bodacious. Don
  15. The wolves only showed up at my place because they smelled my smoked ribs I mistook a large bobcat for a lion last year when it crossed the hwy in front of me during a downpour. However, there has been a confirmed sighting of a big kitty in Christian County Mo, as well as several nonconfirmed sightings. http://mdc.mo.gov/conmag/2006/06/20.htm
  16. Welcome Ric, You're in good bassin' country. That's all I used to fish in the 80's and early 90's. On the other hand, if you ever get a flyrod going, you will never give it up. Just a thought Don
  17. One big brown landed and put on a stringer by someone in a boat he said. Too bad he kept a big brownie. Not to cast judgement, but I wish he would have put him back. Don
  18. I'd love to help, but I'm still obligated to my parents. The only reason I've not posted fishing reports lately ( and if you read the forum, you know I give trip reports if weather allows me to fish) is their 3 acre yard is like a neighborhood full of trees worth of damage. I've been a one man crew since then and have been cutting in all my spare time since the icing. Any way, their church will send some folks to help out in a couple of weeks. I hope we knock off a good enough chunk of labor so I can make the Sowbug roundup. Anything after my parents' cleanup, I will gladly volunteer creek cleanup. Sincerely...Don
  19. Happy birthday Duckydoty. Have a good one.....Don
  20. its small... but I had fun!!! Yeah, I've heard that before but it just didn't seem to make the trip any better, whether I was slow stripping or not. Don
  21. Happy Birthday folks, TB, I can't think what to offer. It seems like Leonard has already given you the ultimate birthday present. Maybe see you at the Sowbug. Don
  22. Ahhh, the best of both worlds. I'll be at the white bass seminar. I'll do the Sowbug Friday. Your streamer seminar was very informative. I'm always looking for new info, especially warm water fishes. Don
  23. I once found a largemouth (approx 2 lbs) floating on top barely alive with a tail sticking out of its mouth. I removed about a 10 inch largemouth from its throat. Both fish died. Weird stuff. I purchased several boxes of Tilapia from Wal Mart last summer and had a really good fish fry. Decent tasting filets for frozen fish. Don

    Chili Recipe's

Does anybody know a grocery store or specialty store that carries Gebhardt's Chili Powder? I could buy it online, but I'd like to be able to pick some up locally. Thanks, Don
  25. DrBewley, I researched the same camera (Olympus) a few weeks ago and I'm convinced it is a good outdoor camera. I'm also concerned about the quality of pictures taken indoors with flash. Your experiences? Thanks, Don
