  1. Good to hear it Dano. Makes me optimistic for Sunday afternoon. Thanks, Don
  2. Hey Flysmallie and Tippet, The 8:00 thing isn't going to happen. I'm taking my neighbors to church with me Sunday so I won't be down till approx 2:00. Hope you guys can get out and possibly find each other. I'll be down from Springfield approx 2:00PM. Good fishin' Don
  3. Illegal
  4. Obviously, this situation in itself justifies need for boatings regs in the Taney area from the dam to Fall Creek. It's definately not safe for passengers and pose a liability to the business as well. Tourists will love the rebar hole at proper water level. Who can be contacted about this potential hazard?
  5. Hey chief, No expert here, but since i loosened my drag(not to the point of backlash) I set alot harder. My drag is set lose enought for a hard set then is adjusted appropriately during the fight.
  6. I will fish anywhere.Usually never chute 2 because its loaded with people. I'll park above chute 2 and usually start somewhere downstream. If fish challenge, I sometimes finish up at chute 1 area.
  7. I think I met u as well. U suggested baby ginger buggers at Tim's while u bought materials. I slack at bugger presentation and had poor luck, but I did OK on scuds as in report. Thanks, I plan on trying tose buggers on Taney soon. Good Fishin' Don
  8. The name Wilson makes me want to ask if this pattern is from John Wilson, the guide from Arkansas.
  9. I'll be there somewhere below the dam approx 8:00 AM. I have probably spoke to many of u but cant get faces to names. I drive a green 95 Ford ranger with a shell. I usually dress normal natural colors, but i will defy trout visibality laws and wear blaze orange cap with brown chest pack. I talk to alot of people but usually don't ask names. I will ask this time and make you give me the secret fly of the day.... Ha Ha. Phil, if u go that afternoon, look for me as well. Good Fishin, Don
  10. Yea Dano, I use scuds when ever I can. Surprisingly RR. Taney scuds the day before didn't produce at RR but other varieties did. I apparently saw Steve at Tim's that day. He was the guy that said he had success on ginger baby buggers and was buying material. I had no luck on the ginger buggers but I may be failing at bugger presentation. I talked to many fisherman that day between the road and wading area. I was all camo with brown chest pak. Certain scuds were hot. First time I fished them without an indicator. Used 6x tippet 8 ft long with # 6 sinker 1 foot up. Used amnesia loop with 1/2 orange sticky indicator on the loop as my indicator. Unusual setup for the 1st time but was successful. Good Fishin' Don
  11. I was there on the last day of C&R as well from 11:00-4:00. Caught 20 fish. Alot of large fish 15-16 in. Did well with gray and tan scuds off the bottom. Fished all pools from wading area to first road above it. Lost some big ones. First was aprox 5 lbs. Ran out of gray scuds and went one hour with only one fish from an olive wooly bugger. Then at 3:30 I caught 3 off of an olive scud. Then I hooked a fish that had his way with me. He swam wherever he wanted and my little 4 weight had no influence on him at all. He finally broke me off in some rocks at the edge of the pool. I wish I could have even caught a glimpse of him. I found a similar olive scud and the horn blew before I tied it on. Exciting C&R season finale.
  12. Started 3:00 PM about 80 ft below chute 2 with a brown/gray scud. caught one 12 in bow. Switched to medium gray scud and caught 13 bows from 3:30 to 5:30. Half where I started and half at the rebar hole. Missed alot of fish. Was windy with those frequent and heavy snow flurries. Once a rainbow jumped 2 ft out of the water while I was fighting it and the snow was flurrying down in thick heavy flakes. This moment was a postcard picturesque scene that made the trip worthwhile all in itself. All fish were short. Would have fished Taney the next day but went to the last day of Roaring River C&R season instead. Good Fishin' Don
  13. I'll be there Sunday morning Jan 29. I'm not sure what rig I'll arrive in. I plan to start up river and work my way all the way down to the fly only area. For those forum readers who want to network (Swap tips and stories), I'll be wearing a fluorescant orange hunting cap and a brown chest pack. Good fishing to you all.
  14. Jan 2, 2005. My two friends and I started at the boat ramp approximately 10:30 AM. Temp was in the 30's with very high wind. Weather kept away most fishermen that day. Only about 6 fishermen below chute 2. Luckily, wind was blowing downstream. Very gusty. I waded out 20 yards above the MDC ramp and never moved for the next 3 hours. My friends got cold and went to the truck in approx 30 minutes. Grey scud was the only fly. Caught 19 fish until 1:30. Wind was fierce at times. Most shocking was that I caught 2 of the fish while the water was whitecapping. I wonder what the scud looked like bouncing off the bottom. I casted towards shore approx 10 yards from the bank at a 45 degree angle and let the wind make the drift in what is usually a slow drift water. I casted about 10 yards from the bank at a 45 degree angle. 90% of the fish were hooked at the end of the drift when the scud was on the upswing. All were small rainbows up to 15 inches. Some of them had the best color I've seen all year. I also fished Jan 16 Martin Luther King's holiday. Was a beautiful day, crowded. Only 6 fish that day. Did alot of experimenting with dry and hackles. Looks like my first trip to Roaring River catch and release will be this Sunday. Wish me luck and good fishing to all.
