  1. I tried my new Feather-Craft furled 9 ft. leader this morning at Taney. It really worked nice and was smooth. I was casting like Lefty out there. I'm sold on the item and will buy additional ones for other reels. I was only out a couple of hours, starting at about 7:45 a.m., and caught one rainbow on a red-butt soft hackle and another on a parachute adams near the KOA area. I had no takes drifting a light-colored midge.
  2. Thanks for the helpful information.
  3. CC, thank you for the information and help. Would you have a phone number, e-mail address or web site for Mr. Eck?
  4. Is it possible to find a new, used or refurbished bamboo rod in the $170 to $300 range? Is ebay the way to go? Any suggestions on good brand names of vintage or used rods to look for on the ebay site or elsewhere. Does anyone in the Ozarks refurbish and sell 4 or 5 wt. bamboo rods, or any fly shops sell new rods in my price range.
  5. Tim, What's your equipment setup, i.e. rod length, line weight and flies, for Spring Creek? Is it the same as Crane? What is the best water temp for trout in these small creeks/streams? Thanks
  6. Thank you, Leonard. Your directions and information is very helpful. I've been hearing about KOA in the threads, but not quite sure where the heck it was or what kind of water. Thanks again.
  7. Does anyone fish or have fished Spring Creek near Hurley? It looks very technical and challenging. Is there any public access or is it mainly a private land, "no trespassing" situation?
  8. Where is the KOA area and what kind of water is there during zero generation? What is the best way/route to get there? Thanks.
  9. I just bought a Scientific Anglers Concept reel for my 9wt "trout master" rod. If you're on a tight budget, this series of reels might be the ticket. It's 95 percent plastic and not too pretty, but it seems to be getting the job done so far. I landed a nice Taney brownie on 8/17 at the public boat ramp with the reel, which cost me $50 at Wal-Mart.
  10. It is really quite and peaceful for sure. But it's a challenge. At least for me, anyway. We walked down about maybe 70 yards, give or take, and then back toward the parking lot.
  11. The water was good and fairly clear this morning near the dairy farm and only got a couple of strikes. My fishing buddy, a Crane Creek veteran, did much better and hooked a good size trout at one point. The fish fought like a true champ with jumps and a strong dash upsteam to break off the line, leaving my buddy shaking and amazed. The area was really grown over. If you don't like tall thorny weeds, bugs and spiders, this place is not for you right now. I used a TFO Finesse 7'9" 4wt rod. My Battenkill reel had a double-taper floating line with 6x leader and 7x tippet. The flies I used ranged from a zebra midge, tan midge, San Juan worm to a Dave's hopper and even a small light-colored jig in a deep run. I got the strikes on the zebra midge. In the meantime, I'll tend to my wounds from the creek's thorn bushes and try again sometime soon. Nothing like paying your dues.
  12. John, The fishing idea sounds good. I'm within 30 minutes from Taney.
  13. John, Thanks for the number. It is a little "troublesom," but we got it figured out. I was born and raised in Chanute, graduating from CHS in 1985. I believe I was in a volunteer firefighter training course with you in 1994 or so. I had to leave the CFD program early due to a job opportunity in Marshall, Mo. I know live in Reeds Spring and work in Springfield. Thanks again, Tim Q. Semper Fi
  14. Terry, That was a great reply. Thanks for the information.
  15. John, Is there a posted generation schedule somewhere? I do call the phone number to get the one-the-spot report, but it would be nice to get a projected scedule to plan better. I'm planning on going out there late Sunday night with an old Chanute High School buddy. I understand they have been running at least one generator during the early morning hours.
  16. This is my first time hearing about and seeing the Weavers' report site. It was really a fun and informative read. I'm looking forward to going back for a look and getting my own trout "fix". I hope the very best for Jerry on his treatments and full recovery.
  17. Tim, thanks for the report. The creek and fish look incredible. I can't wait to get out there and try my luck.
  18. Welcome to the forum. Go Mizzou and good luck on the North Fork!!!
  19. Hey Lilley, Sounds like you're having a really good time. That's a great part of the country. Looking forward to the pics.
  20. Thanks, Terry. The information is really helpful. I'm really looking foward to this fall and the brownies.
  21. Can that fish be any bigger. Great job, man.
  22. Thanks, Steve.
  23. What is the best line to get for stripping at Taney day/night? Floating, Shooting, weighted etc. The line is for a 9wt rig. I know this not your typical Taney outfit, but I got a good deal on the rod from a friend, and I wan't to fling flies the size of small chickens. Thanks
  24. Thank you for the nice welcome. Hey John, Kansas Fly Fisher, I'm orginally from Chanute. Go Blue Comets!!!
  25. Hello, This is really a great forum. I've been fly fishing for about two years now. I'm always on the hunt for new tips, tactics and techniques. Apparently, this is true for all of us. I mainly visit Taney, Current River and sometimes Crane Creek when I feel the need for some adventure. Looking forward to particpating in the forum.
