    Water Level

the gauge is at the very end of the river you can't trust it for floating... the best way is to call kings river outfitters and they will tell you about the section your planning to run! i will tell you it's going to be bump and grind if it doesn't rain by the weekend.
  2. a buddy of mine has the new dr. style bags. i have the roll-down sealline and some ozark trail. the newiest is a giant duffle backpack, one bag, and it all goes in it, and i mean all of it! but the 5-gallon bucket trick is hard to beat if you have the room.
  3. sorry ham! ..... not! what's holding you back?.. too sunny ..too rainy.. gas too DAM high?.. what no time off? here's what you do! start coughn' and and rubbing your eyes tell them you got that CANOE FLU thats going around .. or how about the ole' STRESS MANAGEMENT class ,you can take that one off on your 07 taxes.. or do like i do start pissin' her off around wendsday and by friday you don't even have to ask!, she is soooooooo ready for me to get the heck out!!!
  4. floated the marshall for to rockhouse, great trip!! water was just at the lowside of slipping over the rocks but, this is a full two day run. got on the river late sat.around 2 and paddled untill dark, made my camp at the waters edge, my mistake was i didn't paddle far enough or , my fishing time took way too long! on sunday fishing was better making a slower pace and getting to the take out at dusky dark.... this was my first time for this section ,i give it three thumbs up! never saw anyone untill late sunday afternoon around 4 or so. i'm guessing that with water levels at around 3.75 to 4.5 it would be even better!
  5. I went down to cow skin and the place was a ghost town, no canoes...SO then drove to our last years camp spot, and the water was way up, ended useing kozycamp to shuttle me and my boat for $20................... and june will work (i'll make it)....but, my heart is't set on just gasconade! so post-up.. i go almost every weekend! rain or shine! a day trip and over night .......
  6. saw them in good numbers on sunday. creek banks lined with beds and sorry to say a couple of guys just banging away at them... i did my part as to bang ,bump, and splash, much as i could as they fished away! i even tried to explain why they should not fish them , but they said they only came this time of year! to catch fish ! makes you sad to see that going on..... but it is!!!
  7. something closer to home?.... day trip?.... what? (JUST PACK FISHING GEAR AND WAIT )
  8. hope your wife has a good recovery ,jim.... and don't worry about fishin' ... we will work something out that we all can get in on!
  9. THE WATER LEVELS WERE GREAT ,caught a lot of trout, saw a monster brown being caught, the poor guy had his hands full! floated the upper end for two days then floated down to two rivers!.....>DID SOMEONE SAY JETBOATS! HOLY COW ! what a zoo! it's was bad!.. groups , or pac's of them....." they won... i'll never go back!" to run anything close to areas that's allowed to go on!! what a shame!!!i'm just glad it was the last run of the trip and not the first one! and i hope someone from over that way see this! ..... DON'T TAKE YOUR FAMILYS, THERE ARE A LOT BETTER PLACES TO GO!!
  10. you have three to pick jump on one!!
  11. great news on the water ,but not for fishing thanks for the report
  12. wrench!! hey good buddy , i was hoping i would get a reply before may got here! LOL .... I'M THINKING THE THIRD WEEKEND? to keep in tradition but doesn't matter to me, what works for you? it will be like last time everyone wants to go! but it's only the hard-core that show up (the gal's at the truck stop missed you last time!)not the one with the crazy eye he other cutie and i almost got loaded-up by a( BIG ONE) good thing wayne and okie were there lol!!!! al didn't help much , i think he was hoping she would load me up !!! anyway... maybe this will spark some intrest in are honey hole!!
  13. any thoughts ?? time to post some dates , and make plans!!
  14. i also have a preciption two man kayak, and i paddle it solo all the time? can haul enough camping gear for a three day trip with no problems at all . mad river just came out with a canoe/ kayak cross breed pretty cool looking craft! i think you going to see more and more combine the two ..... i like a dry ride, never liked sitting in a puddle as most sit on tops are!
  15. making a trip to the current on wed. with a big group off paddling .net will be camping at pulltite as basecamp! grab your gear and show-up it should be a good weekend!... bad part, i think i'm the only one fishing?
  16. i paddled up river from twin bridges about 6 miles and caught a lot of small males, a handfull of crappie, and two walleye just over 19 inches made for a nice trip!
  17. in the next few weekends we need to hit that 15 miler above rockhouse for a gravelbar overnighter!!!!with the low water (at the moment) it could be really good?..riverwateris in the low 50's it's an idea!....
  18. floated from rockhouse to trigger gap ... water was low and fishing was good water temp in the 50's there were a lot of floaters out! only saw one snake but got 6 ticks!! and never steped near the grass?
  19. ham , it was the woolum to bakers ford runs, the water was in the mid 40's and it's on the low side... i've been three trips fishless!... all in the middle section this winter.and have not even seen anything that looked like a fish in the gin clear water ... it was in late december in moving water the last time i cleaned house!(paddleblade size) but i was going every weekend and we followed them down stream for six weekends in the fall. as the winter set in we got a gully washer flash flood that took the river in the 18' to 19' foot range.and it seemed as if all the fish took off to deep holes of non-moving waters and haven't moved out to the shallow waters yet.but like i said the water is still cold... we had frost on the tents!sunday morning and ice didn't melt much at all in my cooler for a two-day trip !! but we did see some elk along the river and that was truley a treat to see!it was a highlite of this trip!
  20. the trip was great! we had 8 paddlers on this trip and we got to see some elk along the river !! that made the frosty morning worth it.. fishing was bad!! NEVER GOT A BITE! i'm sure it was that the water was too cold or a weather front was comming or... or... or...>>> could just been me!....
  21. unless the rains come you wont be floating that section!! I was there today, on my way back from our trip from woolun to bakers ford,(FISHLESS) and you sure won't go far, we have done much better the next two sections down river
  22. i can see the fish rolling the water at day break just past the boat ramp off point 12 like 600 yards in the middle of the lake. but only if it's not windy...... 4 striper boats full of people have been trolling the bluff just past the highline wires for three days now... and on the upper white river past the 412 bridge run your depth finder till to find them! or find all the boats LOL!!!! hope you land a good one!
  23. TRIP #2 the plan is to make a run at it on the 17th. and 18th. if the weather holds. the river is low so we will be doing a lower river trip this time.. about 15 miles with gravelbar camping for sum ,and a daytrip for others. but, all are welcome( the sat. run is for daytripers) i'll fill in the details as i get them!
  24. well i don't know if it's spring fever or if the fish are biting.... but i heard four boats befor daylite.. and going to work i saw them all!!! big boats ,little boats,.. stuff that you wonder if it could float? and the lines of the bank-fishing people!!! and it was still going strong at the boat ramps!!they had two guys selling bait off the 45 bridge ramp. so i'm guessing the white bass run must be starting now (however i never saw anyone crankin' one in ,so i can't confirm!! this is all windshield time
  25. not sure?... IF it's state law! or part of the illinois river watershed scenic river trail.... and NO STYROFOAM COOLERS OR COFFEE CUPS!! it may be only for floaters! not for fishing off the bank but i'd make sure befor i go
