  1. Hate the chiefs? Thats just wrong...
  2. I thought that looked familiar--here is the same spot in December. We drive south and spend our weekends hiking the trails this time of year in what we consider the most beautiful place on earth. This weekend we were going to take the photos for our Christmas Cards on Hawksbill Crag--very beautiful but I'm scared of heights and overhanging cliffs TERRIFY me.
  3. Phil-- The skin change worked for me and the ozark hunters link is visable again. I'll check it out later today when I'm supposed to be working. After all it's that time of year again...my father always joked that once the cool weather began his neck would begin to swell like a buck.
  4. Ouch If you truly did a format on a drive like you intended to do a new install, there may be nothing you can do about it. Keep trying and let us know if it works. I learned my lesson the hard way a year ago when my hard drive refused to boot any longer. I ended up hooking the old drive as a slave on another PC and was able to get my digital photos, websites and other important docs off it using dos commands but it took hours to complete. I now use a another hard drive to run a backup every day (usually late at night)--in the case of your laptop you could use an external USB2 hardrive, firewire drive or even something so simple as another PC on your network. I transfer a copy of the files each night with a free program called Cobian Backup 8 http://www.educ.umu.se/~cobian/cobianbackup.htm It's dumb simple to use and will even go as far emailing you the results of the backup to you once it is complete. It's so dependable we even use it on some of our servers at work backing up multiple days worth of data in the case of a version of the db going corrupt, you could reinstall the previous known working version. It may be too late to help you now but to answer your question about the stupidest thing you could do would be... it would be to let it happen again. best of luck. Mike
  5. Now you gotta admit THAT is funny Quick! Everybody between now and the end of the month click on it each time you see it. Support your local forum and remember, the key word is "PAY" per click. They pay Phil each time you click on it. Click on!
  6. Phil-- What speed of internet do you get down there? I wouldn't have thought they would have piped DSL down that far yet. But what would I know....
  7. Are you at work trying this? Maybe your IT staff is blocking that port. We restrict a good deal of "non work-related" surfing here at my office.
  8. Wow, that is impressive. I wish my sites had that kind of traffic and I've been watching it for a while and it looks like Google is doing a pretty good job of targeting ads for your site. Keep it up.
  9. Kayser-- Keep hitting the play button and it will usually connect after a couple of trys. I don't believe I've ever had it connect on the first time I mash the button.
  10. I was fortunate to be watching it at work with a fellow co-worker and then.... The camera begins MOVING ! Someone brought it out of the water and into the shed to wipe the lens off. I gathered 3-4 others around me just to watch it. TMC, I've never been able to make it work with Firefox although I'm sure they have a plug in somewhere just for this purpose. BTW--you get an amazing frame rate out of your webcam. What kind of bandwidth are you using to pump the video out?
  11. 14lb test?
  12. I agree, the fog sunday was pretty incredible and made for some interesting photos--it was a shame to have to drive back home to springfield and reality. Caught most of our fish on a scud and later on copper colored midges. Two weeks earlier released a 23 inch rainbow (my biggest at taney) and this past sunday spotted a couple more that looked to be in the 20 inch range. I caught nothing after they opened the gates--probably need some schooling on fishing in those conditions. Any pointers?
  13. It may have been the leader themselves as bad--I purchased them in a 3-pak and the leader before did the same thing. Funny thing though--between spurts of wind on Sunday I saw a fish that looked twice as long as any other. I must have made the cast of my life because it took it immediately. I was praying that it would hold and to my amazement it did. 21 inches and my biggest taney rainbow--2 fish later and another broke off. Just goes to prove that prayer DOES work.
  14. Any suggestions on tying the fly on? Don't know if it's releated or not but on 3 different occasions this weekend i had my leader break off while simply setting the hook. Not a heavy hookset like on a largemouth but just raising the rod up. Each occasion the line had a clean break and wasn't unraveled at all--fyi i was using a clinch knot
  15. Where can I find the schedules for generation at the dam? HS Baseball has been rained out for the weekend and GOING to fish this weekend instead, but rain has me wondering if I should try one of the parks. Anybody know, have a guess or physic feelings about the water release possiblities?
  16. Tim How is all this rain effecting the water level? Trying to decide to risk generation at taney or make the trip to RR and was wondering how much rain you got today. Rained like a big dog here in springfield.
  17. Wow, I had no idea they got that large. I'm not a tree hugger, have killed my fair share of deer/turkey, nor do I eat free range chickens and wear birkenstocks--but it seems a shame to kill an animal like that. It would have had to been extremely old wouldn't it?
  18. Mystery to me... Planning a trip to taney this weekend--new to fishing at the dam and how do I know or how do you predict when they will release water?
  19. I purchased a beautiful Heddon bambo casting rod on ebay about a month ago--got what I thought was a wonderful deal on it but it was packed in a cardboard box with nothing but bubble wrap. Needless to say the box was bent by the USPS and I'm still trying to collect in the insurance.
  20. Confessing to be the geek that I am, I was listening to NPR here in Springfield this morning and I caught the tail end of a spot on didymo. Did anyone else catch it? I've been unable to locate the article on their website http://www.ksmu.org/...
  21. Opening morning all 4 of my party each caught one 3-4 lbs but nothing of real super size. All of the "lunkers" we caught had pink flesh and had wintered in the stream. I went to the weigh station and the biggest so far was under 7 lbs and this was about 3 PM opening day. Combine the last 2 years opening days, we still easily caught more fish this year than ever--weather was unbelievable and easily fewer than 2K fishing. We fished both Saturday and Sunday as well, olive wooly buggers, chamois-san juan worms, and even lt cahills in the afternoon made the days pass far too quickly. I haven't heard of anything large coming out and spoke to a number of the same individuals who same the same. Most likely some of them are still there...
  22. I'm beginning to feel like my box just doesn't measure up and now feel pressured to purchase more...can this be considered "box envy"?
  23. yeah dogwoods and morels..
  24. Phil, what is the "normal" temp?
  25. Keep 'em down by the "landing" and we'll survive. I just worry about those tires going over the gravel bars. Talk about "shuffling"...
