  1. Thanks for the report. Very interesting. Maybe a dry and a dropper? or hopper and dropper?
  2. Just about every place in zone 1 or 2 can be good. I like to start up by the island in zone 2, myself. Sometimes you can tear them up on a john Deere. If no takers, try a glowball with a midge dropper (choose a color but make olive one of them). Work your way across the stream with your casts to cover the water. Try drifting deep by the moss beds and then experiment with different depths if you need to. Mend, mend, mend to get a drag-free float. During all of this it is important to IGNORE the guy who walks up beside you and throws out a big orange rooster tail and catches 3 or 4 right out in front of you. Don't get frustrated!..he is only purging out the really STUPID fish. Stick with your game plan. Also try small if you need to..size 20 midges and nymphs. That's my 2 cents. Lot of things to try. Have a good trip. May be you can get back down Sunday and Monday the 29th and 30th. A bunch of us are meeting a noon Sunday at the Park Resturaunt (behind the store) for lunch. Jerry
  3. Sorry, I had a senior moment! SUNDAY the 29TH. Lunch at 12:00
  4. I wanna go! Somebody organize a trip.
  5. Size 18 and 20 Midges, Zebra Midge and Olive Midge have been good for me in different areas. Midge under a small egg pattern is sweet many times.
  6. I like being able to check the stream and wish I was there. Some days it gives me a good "pick me up" and gets me planning the next trip. I have been down 5 times this summer and caught plenty of fish. Some small stockers but many pushing 2 lbs. Seems the same as it always was to me.
  7. It won't be long now but I am hoping the weather cools down a little. I suggest we all meet for lunch at 12:00 at the Bennett Dining Lodge on Sunday, Aug 22nd. Any other suggestions accepted. I am hoping to see a pic of NoLuck's 4 pounder. Anyway, I'll be ready. Luckily once you get in the stream up to your chest it cools off rather nicely.
  8. SWEEET! You'll remember that one!!
  9. Thanks for the report!. What hopper pattern does well for you? I've never fished one at Bennett.
  10. Grey zebra midge is bout the only color I don't have. What color wire and head?
  11. Congratulations Rich! I'm ready to go. The crowds must be families taking vacation before school starts?
  12. The barbeque is very good and nice folks. They have a dish called the "Piggy Pie" that is unusual. Layered from the bottom...Fritos, BBQ beans, Slaw, Pulled pork, Fritos again. I thought it was good but I like Fritos.
  13. 1 out of 5 stars? hummmm... Were the sheets still warm?
  14. Super 8 is nice. More expensive than Sand Springs but nicer. For a small room at Sand Springs is 44.00 for a single. I have been doing that one a lot. Has 1 double bed, TV, Fridge and coffee pot (take your own coffee to perk). 2 people is 52.00 or something. Rooms 111, 112, 114 are clean. Others might be just as nice. I usually try to get one of those. Internet is SLOW. Super 8 is more but nicer and you get continental breakfast and fast internet. I think I paid 80 bucks for 2 people. Vogels is old and not very nice in my opinion. Larrys is suppose to be very nice.
  15. You know a good taxidermist can make a big sucker look just like a brown.
  16. I fished Monday and Tuesday this week. Not super hot action for me. I caught some on differnet color midges. Zebra and olive seemed best. Also caught a few on an sz18 peach glowball with a bead head. For some reason they seemed to prefer it when dropped from a midge. John Deere produced nothing for me in several locations. Monday late evening I got several takers on sz22 white Midge dry fly up by the Gauge house. Tuesday down in zone 2, by the rock hole, I caught several with a zebra Midge I tied with a few wraps of of hot pink at the bead...size 18. Tuesday morning I ran into FlyFishnFool up at the island a we had a good visit and landed a few fish. He had best luck on olive and dark brown midges and I had best luck on the small peach glowball again. I did catch a few on midges though. Again NO takers on the John Deere that I ha done so well on 3 weeks ago! Go figure, stupid fish. BTW, it was hot! Once in the stream it as not bad but getting the gear on was a bear!
  17. One thing I have noticed after looking at several Sage rods the past week is that the cork quality can be great or not-so-great on any price rod. My Flight is fantastic, my Vantage is mediocre, and the Zaxis I threw was really mediocre. I would have been very dissappointed for 650 bucks!!! I got lucky on my FLight. I was told by the salesman that it has been crap shoot with Sage for handle quality. Anyway, something to look for if you want good cork for the money.
  18. I heard that. Man, this makes me sick. Bennett is where we go to get away from that crap.
  19. I'm finding it hard to beat Sand Springs at 44 bucks a night for 1 person and 1 bed. I've been staying in rooms 112, 113, and 114 and they must have been remodeled because they are pretty nice. Certainly better and cleaner than Vogel's and a little less money.
  20. Actually guys, I was thinking about some midges with a little flash tail and little flash behind the head...in several colors. I actually caught a couple last time on my olive midge with olive sparkle tail. Rich gave me one of his secret killer olive midges so I try to tie some like that. BTW Rich, I had a nice Brown on in the fast water. I could see the gold color flashing. He hit a size 18 red brassie with peacock thorax and black bead. He made a run upstream an then back down stream right towards JJTroutbum that was fishing on the other side. One look at Jon and he bolted and broke off. That's my excuse.
  21. Picked up a 5 wt. Flight last night and fished it with some 5 wt sharkskin in the pond last night. It is indeed a fast rod. Shoots line like a rocket. Long casts are pretty effortless.... but then again I have been throwing an LST 2 wt! The Flight a beautiful casting rod and I like it!! You can really feel it load.
  22. Do any good, Pat?
  23. Ok..no soft hackles...for you.
  24. Between now and then I will tie a few flies. I will post what I have tied so you will all now what will NOT work that weekend.
