I never compete with Rich! I found out that is just frustrating as hell. I fish a spot for 30 minutes and he walks up to talk to me and catches 3 or 4 right where I was NOT catching fish. I just smile and try to learn. He has taught me a lot and I'm happy with what I do catch. Did you mean memorial day, May 27th? I might make it down friday or sat the 24th and 25th. I'm out of town the week before so I gotta check the schedule. I can't wait unitl this WORKING crap is OVER!!! One more year....I'll be 67 and debt free ..I hope

Thanks for the great info Pat! I actually have tied something similar in olive. I'll tie some up in black and rust and add them to the arsenal. It's been a couple of years but i remember brushing them out with a 22 caliber bore cleaning brush. Looks pretty good. I was thinking about adding lead to mine..or bead.

Interesting! I have seen the light green body with light grey wings mayfly hatch several times. I usually keep some Pale Evening Dun flies handy in size 18 and 20. I also keep some black Caddis imitations because I've had several land on me during a hatch. Never really used them much but I have them. 18 and 20 size Midges are my staples in a variety of colors are my staples. but what do I know??? Weavers report has some nice pictures but the other info is pretty useless IMO.

I hope that is only only camera at Bennett!

Pat, I'm soo sorry to hear about your leg or foot!! I guess that new ramp will come in handy! I hope it heals soon and you can be back in form. I read on the Weavers Facebook page the other day that they are planning on building fish cleaning stations at Bennett. I was thinking the other day about avoiding the Bennett crowds and I think the best ways are: Go during a week day. Don't go early in the morning. Wait unitl people give up and go to breakfast. ( I say this but the last time I was down I could not sleep and was the first one in the parking lot by the island) ( I did get the spot I wanted but it wasn't really crowded anyway) As you are fishing start screaming and yelling about a water moccasin you just saw. That might make you a little more room. : )

Stu675, i would love to know ho you do. I suppose you can camp at several places including ROLF and Sunburst.

I am not thrilled on a crowded day for sure but if you time it right you can always find some good water that's not to crowded. I have been going to Bennet since I was 12 and will be 66 this month so I guess it is more tradition than anything. My family had many camping trips to Bennett and Roaring River and they will always be a slice of paradise in my book. For a 3 hour drive I love to be able to try out some new flys I just tied and just get away. On the drive down form Kansas City when I dip down into the valley by Sands Springs resort I'm suddenly 12 again with all the anticipation of catching a lunker that day. Sounds corney but that's the way it feels. Long live the Trout Parks!

I am really wanting to hire Brian Wise for a guide trip on the North Fork of the White if that is the same place you are talking about. River of Life farms? I've never been there.

I've only been to two in 66 years but thelast one several years ago JJTroutbum, NoLuck and I met for breakfast at Ollies and then went fishing later. Actually zone 1 cleared out a little afternoon and it was not that bad. It was definately not shoulder to shoulder. Jack, I will gladly send your boss an excuse note I find if you use the term "explosive diarreha" it generally works.

Good question. I have read to actually move the point so it is not quite in line with the shank. Better hook sets. That's what I have tried. Can't say it worked becauseI wasn't getting squat for for hits that day anyway. I keep it in the tricks book anyway in case I seem to be missing fish. Especially if they are striking very light and I catch a couple by accident. i'll bend the hook offset slightly hoping they hook themselves before they can spit it.

I forgot you told me that NoLuck..but I'm not retying all my midges. I have been tweaking the hook off center a little to help hookups. I need to get some of those 2499 hooks.

I like the smallest thingamabobber they make but they are hard to find. Palsa foam pinch on floats are good. The depth of the midge depends where the fish are feeding. Sometimes deep. My .02. NoLuck always outfishes me but make sure you get a good drift by mending the line to get a good drag free drift. I like a size 18 midge w/ tungstun bead. Try several colors and even fish two- 12 to 18 inches apart if you are brave. It's legal but can give you one tangled mess if you're not carefull. Another trick to try is to let the midge swing at the end of the drift. Give it short twitches as it climbs towards the surface. Sometimes they really like that. Set the hook if anything about the float looks different than the normal drift. I usually set the the float at 1.5 times the water depth and adjust from there. Sometimes they are feeding shallower. When all of this fails I blame it on the wind.
