  1. RPS, Holiday Island looks like a wonderful place. Just checked their web site.
  2. RPS, Thanks for the help. An Airport is not one of our top concerns. My family is in Kansas City and one big reason to move is to get away from my nightmare of a son. If he's not back in prison in 4 years, we're gettin' out. period. I'm hoping that someone that has relocated to Mountain Home will post a reply.
  3. I've never even been to Mountain Home, AR but I'm thinking about a cheaper place to retire than Shawnee Kansas. My property taxes are about 6 grand per year. I'll retire in 4 years and I have been to the White River a couple of times and loved the area. My brother stayed in Mountain Home last summer and said it was very nice. He really liked the area. Any retirees on here have any comments?? Thanks, Jerry
  4. Well It's been a few weeks since this thread started. Anyone fish the riffles in zone 3 with a plastic worm???
  5. Those are some really nice bass!!! DO they taste like jalepenos?

  6. Thanks for the replies!!! I got more options now.
  7. I have stayed at the Bennett Springs Inn several times. It's not bad. Just wondered which Motels others like to stay at. Might take the wife and would like a little less "rustic" feel. I have not tried others so I just wanted to get some opinions. Thankx
  8. Pat, thanks for the info. I have lots on Midges I've tied this winter BUT no black with gold rib...all silver rib..DOH! Back to the bench! I tied some size 18 scuds yesterday in a dark brown with a gold rib just for the heck of it. I ran into someone down there last fall that swore by dark brown. I thought tan and olive were the most popular but we'll see. .... now tonight I'll tie some more midges with gold beads, black thread body and gold rib. That will surely put the kiss of death on those and we'll never catch another fish on them
  9. Thanks for the report PC. I'm ready to go again but I'll wait for the stream to clear some. I've seen the pics on Weavers page and it must have been like fishing in the Mississippi river. I woder how many weeks it will take to get back to somewhat normal???
  10. That's nasty! There goes my fishing for awhile!
  11. She's moving fast and deep for sure. Last sun. I talked to several guys that had done OK on Easter Egg Glow balls. Also a guy next to me caught several on a brown bead head, he said. I assume it was like a brown scud. I found a mayfly hatch in zone 2 in front of the bluff hole and caught them on top about 2 o'clock. I did.t start until 11:oo but I think if you're there at the horn you'll pick up a few.
  12. Thanks guys and good luck PC.

    B-days

    Happy Birthday you whipper-snappers!
  14. I stared fishing at 11:30 and fished until 6:30. All but 2 hours was in zone 2, by the Bluff hole. Caught 2 on a Y2K with red brassie dropper. Hit the Y2K . It slowed down and I noticed some rising just past the Bluff hole. At first they were just sipping and then started splashing. Then I noticed size 20 mayflys drifting by me...light dunn color. I tied on a size 20 Pale evening Dunn and started getting takers. I missed probably a dozen and brought 5 to the net. The catching was not great but the experience was. I was able to match the hatch and catch fish. Quite a feat for me. Also I had to roll cast for 40 feet and present a dry fly with no drag. Another feat for me. I used lots of floatant and finally worked out a roll cast at a 45 degree angle (rod angled downstream) that, when done correctly, would drop the fly ahead of the fish and make a nice mend upstream. I loved it. The trees in that area are right behind you so no casting behind you. At 3:00 it was all over but enjoyed it. Not lots of fish to the net but great fishing non the less. Just enough takers to keep it interesting. Rest of the afternoon I fished around the island in zone one and caught 1 fish. I didn't move a lot but I 'm lazy that way. I thought it was early for a mayfly hatch but I saw the little sailboat wings. During the time I was there fishing that spot I had probably 10 guys come up and fish for awhile next to me and not one even tried a dry fly. I guess they never noticed the fish rises or the hatch. I just thought it was interesting. The fish I did catch were nice size and put up a good battle in that current going on down there now. I also tried out my Simms wader belt/back support. It's the greatest!!!!! NO lower back pain I usually get from standing more that 2 hours. I got it at Bass Pro in Kansas City. The thing is a blessingl!!! Also finally got to try my new Reddington RS3 and RIO Grand line. 9 foot 4 weight. Very nice.
  15. I heading down tomorrow (sun) AM. Just gotta get some fishing in. Look for a 99 red Honda Civic if you're there. PC, thank's for the report. I'll take my eggs and newly tyed Y2K's
  16. Latest flyer I just got from Rockbridge says $80 per day catch and release. I would like to try it. Larry at the Bass Pro in KC says big stupid trout!!! 80 bucks a day is pretty steep. I can hit Bennett for 3 bucks. Wish we could get more info. For 80 bucks I would not want to be crowded in the slightest.
  17. Ok now you guys got me interested! I have a good supply of worms from years past and I just might try them. Almost thinking about going down next week sometime but not sure the back is ready. Pinched nerve still active. I did go out back last night and last for a while. PC, Have a good time and post a report please. My wife is on spring break next week and I'm might convince her to go down monday with me for a little while. I don't think I could fish for very long but I'm itching to go.
  18. No Luck, Sounds like fun even with the bad truck luck. this is the second report, I believe, where you have mentioned the Y2K. I am recently the proud owner of 24 of those bad boys!!!!. Size 14 and I tied them in a tri- color. What this really means to all you guys is that they will never hit on these again since I am now armed with some!!. Just seems to be the way it goes. Actually I'm looking forward to trying these with a midge dropper. Gotta make 'em crazy! We need to plan a get together when the weather gets a little warmer.
  19. I thought I had read some posts where guys were fishing plastic worms on a fly rod in zone 3. I myself would like to try it sometime but I would choose a later time of the day and try not to interfer with any bait fishers. I use to be one for trout and still like to catfish occasionally. I think they should have the right off way in that area. BUT if the riffles don't have a soul around, why not? Still If someone came up to baitfish...I'd let them have the spot. I've got zones 1 and 2 and it's probably about time for the cream midge hatch up by the gauge house anyway! Oh Boy!! Just my .02
  20. Not Sure. I'll PM ya. Probably not for a couple of weeks. I'm going to physical therapy to get this pinched nerve feeling better in my neck. It's not bad standing but It hurts to drive very far. Hopefully I'm ok to go in a couple of weeks.
  21. great story Rich. I have very similar memories. I remember camping near the stream..just down from the rock dam. It was snowy and I filled my hip waders with water right off the bat. Dad and I still had a good time. Must have been about 1959.
  22. Yes, good luck to all and stay. I would never venture on onto the dam but if I did the first thing I would do is have to pee! ( comes with age)
  23. I have the Three Forks 5 weight I have used a lot in the pond behind my house. I got it when Cabela's opened in Kansas City for a song. It always amazes me how well it casts. Nice action. You'll like it. I ordered one of the $50 Scierra IC3 rods but have not gotten it yet. I looked at them 2 months ago when they were 150.00 and I passed to buy something else but when I saw them for 50 bucks I could not resist. They're beautiful. Fly shop guy says they were excellent of $150. I can't seem to find much info on them though. anyone tried one?
  24. Oh no, another must have fly! I'm running out of room in the fly boxes.
  25. Flatcat, Not a bad idea. I could do that!!
