Need A Little Help Picking Out New Waders
flyfishmaster replied to TroutFearMe's topic in General Flyfishing Topics
TFM, Here are my thoughts. I have owned Cabela and Simms. I think for over all comfort I like the Cabela Pant Waders. If you are thinking about guiding in CO, plan on going through two or more set of waders a year (just ask a few full time guides about this). Also if you do start to guide out of a fly shop, it might be a good idea to wear the equipment that is avalible from with in the shop, IMO. Good luck with your decision you will make the right choice. Later, FFM -
Bman, You are a better man than I when it comes to snakes. I know that thing would have needed up in at least 3 peices when I got done with it. Later, FFM

Great report Leonard, and nice phish. As for eating the bigger trout, I do not like their taste at all. I have eaten a few over 3 lbs but each one tasted like $hit and threw most of it out. I'm glad yours was not that way. Glad to hear you had a good time. Later, FFM

Just Joined The Ranks Of The Unemployed
flyfishmaster replied to Paola Cat's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
PC, Sorry to hear about the job, like the above posts, I too have been your boots twice in the last 6 months. I was just lucky enough to start a new job on Tuesday. And like you, in between my jobs I made a trip to BSSP and meet up with Cricket. I know you don't like being out of work in such a bad economy, but during this "short" break do things you enjoy doing, it will take the tension off reality. Later, FFM -

Well the caddis hatch was "okay" in my opinion, but i'm not down there enough to say what is a good hatch. There are only a few fishing hitting top water in the areas I was at. As for the Cabin hole, the tree is still there and it is best to exit the river on the Park side and walk next to the sewer plant to get down stream. As for water height, I beleive the water is up about 6 - 8" from normal and the CFS should be in the 90 -110 range as normal. I did notice that this year's flooding seamed to create a lot a changes to the river bottom making a few areas I liked to fish much deeper than past years. I hope that helps. Later, FFM

Fishing Report - Wed May 20
flyfishmaster replied to flyfishmaster's topic in Bennett Springs State Park
SIO3, I did not hear that, but I would not dought it at all because there should have been a few fish holding in the slack water by the banks and I just cound not find them at all. Later, FFM -
Well I started my two day fishing trip on the Current River and the second day I went to BSSP (Click Here for BSSP report). I started the morning at Tan Vat. This is the highes and fast conditions I have ever fished the river so I had no idea how it was going to go. Well I found out very quickly how how the day was going to be. In the riffle just below the rock dam I was able to land 6 stocker browns in the first 30 minutes. I then moved down stream about 100 yards to the next riffle and the fish were feeding right at the rock shelf. I was able to land 9 more fish with the laregest being a 20" brown. All these fish were landed on either a sz 18 Mercury Pheasant Tail, sz 20 Buck Skin or sz18 Black Zebra midge. I ventured down fish and landed fish at ever riffle area. So I finished the morning with 27 fish in hand and multiple LDRs. I meet a couple from Cincinnati that come over to MO to fish two times every year. There were great to talk to. After lunch I hit the riffles below Tan Vat again, by changed the flys to a red SWJ and sz 18 gray RS2. I was also able to land 4 on a sz 20 Elk Hair Caddis. An like the morning it was game on. After land 11 more, I decided to head up stream to just below the park and a the cabin hole and the corner hole below that. It took me a bit of time before I started catching the fish. I had to keep changing the depth of my indicator (that water was deep). I meet another nice gentleman from Fullerton (Mike, I think) we talked for about 30 minutes. I caught a number of fish at that corner, one being a 21" bow on a tan SJW. It was a great day on the water for the conditions. BTW the weather was a bright blue bird day. Later, FFM

I went on a two day fishing trip. Day one was at the Current River (Click here for Current River Report) and day two at BSSP. I meet up with Cardilla Cricket at around 8 AM by the High Banks in Zone 2. For me this was one of the slows days of fishing at BSSP I have ever experienced in 15 years at BSSP. I was only able to land 6 fish in the morning. I'm usually able to find the fish but today was the exception to that . I tried over 20 different fly patterns in multiple sizes. I read Laker67's posting about the sowbug, but was only able to land one with that pattern. Here is one point that I found interesting, there is normally a good number of fish in the slack water by the banks but I was unable to find any fish in these areas, even when I walked through those areas I was not able to scare any fish. After lunch Cricket went to fish down stream and I headed up to the top of zone 2 behind the dam. Well my day changed at this time. I fishing along side of the concrete banks about 4 feet out with a Black Zebra midge and a BH Hares Ear. Was able to land 8 fish in the first hour and then 5 in the last hour I fished. So I guess those last two hours made up for the morning. I have never fished that area before, I though I had to change my tactics and it did pay off. Good to meet you Cricket! Later, FFM

Heck instead of a ribbon, why not go with a pink bra with a "O" one one side and "A" on the other. Then on the strap in the back, it could have "Unhook Me!!" That of course is just another way to say "Practice Catch and Release" or "You have seen the rest now see the best!!" meaning this is the best Website forum. What were you guys thinking it ment .......something else? later, FFM

great report, keep them coming. The Current is a great stream and you never know what you might catch. later, FFM
