  1. For myself, I generally ditch the waders by May and just wade with boots and quick dry pants. Might not be a good idea for some but it works well for me as after the initial shock I don't notice the water temp. Perhaps this is due to the trout on the brain effect blocking out any and all other input. The only real advice I can give is to fish deep, as in if you are not occasionally snagging the bottom and losing a few nymphs then you are not fishing deep enough. It took a couple of lackluster trips to the NFOW and some good advice imparted on this forum for me to come home without my tail between my legs. Have a great trip, its a wonderful river!!!
  2. Coolest? A tie between hand fishing for smallies off a dock in Canada when I was young or the 26" rainbow I pulled out of Taney. Oddest? A 3'+ carp caught in Indian Creek at 103rd and Metcalf in Overland Park, KS. I guess thats not too odd other than being smack dab in the middle of Johnson County. Surprised me at least.
  3. Sweet video!!! Glad I had the chance to get a perspective from back then. Any idea what year it was made?
  4. Thank you both. As it turns out, plans have changed a bit as per usual and we are now floating Greer to Riverton. Brian, I'm sure I will be by Thursday afternoon or Friday Morning to pick up whatever I forgot.
  5. Am thinking about a late fall float and was wondering what type of access is available off of FR3153-CR AA - 127 or FR - 4144. Don't really care if I have to scramble up a mean slope with my gear and yak. Thanks!!!
  6. Thanks for the report. I'm headed down next weekend and would love to get some BWO and caddis action. Any idea what the accessibility of Cedar Grove is like with snow and ice on the ground?
  7. Enjoyed the video, Thank you! As far as I'm concerned, any trout fly fishing porn is a welcome sight for sore eyes.
  8. Thanks for the info Gavin, much appreciated!
  9. I'm planning a weekend float and fly fish from Baptist to Akers within the next month. What is the minimum gauge level above Akers that is generally considered navigable without too much dragging of my Ozark Yacht? 1.25 comes to mind but I can't seem to locate any info to verify this number. Cfs would also suffice. Thank you.
  10. Great video!!! Thanks for sharing.
  11. I recently spoke with a friend from many years ago and he made mention of an occasional trout being caught on the Caddo. I took this little tidbit of info with a grain of salt as my friend has in the past been well known for his tall tales. Not wanting to completely rule out the possibility, I did as much research as possible and came up with zero trout information on the Caddo. However, I cannot rule out the slim chance that a privately owned and stocked spring branch flows into the Caddo at some point and that this may be the source of the suspect tall trout tail. Any info would be appreciated. Cheers and Happy New Year!
  12. As a Veteran winter floater, I always make sure I have a clean, dry, full set of clothing stored in a different dry bag than the rest of my clothes. I once suffered catastophic dry bag issues on a winter float on the current and thanked my lucky stars I had the foresight to pack an additional set of clothes in an alternate bag.
  13. ColdWaterFshr, I am making reference to the one that flows through Bradleyville. Must have missed that on the first post.
  14. I am also interested in this little creek. A friend is looking at a piece of creek front property and I would like to have some input. The only thing I can find is a mention in the Missouri Floaters Guide that Beaver Creek is a favorite amongst fly fishers. I would think that if this were so I would find some info on this site.
  15. Nice fish and a sweet soundtrack to boot!
  16. Wow! Never thought I would run into anyone who knew of Wahwashkesh. I spent several summer vacations there as a kid in the 70's with relatives who owned a cabin on the lake. Wonderful place with great fishing and fond memories. My mother used to fly in on a float plane when she was a kid.
  17. What an awesome day to be cherished for life. Many times over the years I have wished for just one more day of fishing with my dad. His good natured pokes at my purist fly fishing and me laughing at his bobber. Perhaps this will be in the great beyond.
  18. Great looking fish!!!!
  19. Nice pics! Hopefully, the roller coaster ride is over for a bit.
  20. Indeed! I don't post very often, but I have been lurking in the shadows for a couple of years. I have learned volumes of great info and enjoyed reading everyone's input. Sadly, I don't get out very often with school and work monopolizing my time. However, living vicariously through everyone else on the board is the next best thing. Cheers!
  21. Thank you for the info.
  22. My better half and I are considering a trip to the park on Thanksgiving weekend. Can anyone give me some input on fishing pressure that weekend. This will be her first time fly fishing, she is very excited about the prospect of catching her first trout on a fly. Additionally, what is the name of the motel just north of the park and up the hill on the west side of the road?
  23. Hey thanks for the real estate links Brian. Wow, a cool $675K and I'm set. Wake up,walk down the hill and hit the islands. Now That's the stuff dreams are made of. On the other hand, the monkey house sure has some nice stadium seating with a great view.
  24. Another question. I have looked online for the property about 1 mile up river from Patrick Bridge on river left but have not been able to locate said property with any real estate agencies. The sign was Century 21, but I can't seem to find the listing.
  25. Our group arrived at Patrick Bridge MDC campground on 10/22/09 at about 4 pm, at which point it had been raining most of the previous night and all day. The rain continued to fall until 10 pm that night. UGH!!!!! After a quick camp set up I headed down to the bridge and quickly landed a 12" brown that I released . Great way to start a trip! Unfortunately, that was the first of only two trout for the entire weekend. Friday morning I got up and headed down to the river to give her a look see. Flowing fast, brown and high, I noticed a considerable amount of debris on the bridge. At some point during the night the river crested over the bridge. However, it had fallen to the point where there was about 6 inches of clearance between the river and bridge at about 8 am. We then shuttled our yaks and canoe up to Hammond and floated down to Patrick Bridge. Although the sky was dismal and gray throughout the day it was still a great albeit non tout producing float. Saturday morning I headed over to ROLF and picked up a canoe for my out of town buddy and headed back to Patrick Bridge where we put in. The river was clearing up in color, loosing its muddy brown and becoming green despite the still heavy flow. Weather wise, Saturday was a glorious day for a float. The fall colors and cloudless sky was amazing. I managed to bring the second of only two brown to hand, again a 12" holed up against the bank about a half mile up river from the monkey house. The fishing was lackluster, but at least I didn't get skunked. We pulled out at Tecumseh and made our way back to camp. Despite the high water and less than great fishing the Fall Float Classic was a great weekend and fun was had by all. Sunday, we tried something different and headed over to Bryant Creek . I posted my report on the Bryant creek page. A big THANK YOU to ROLF for renting us a canoe to take over to Bryant Creek and to Brian Wise for the suggestion. On a side note, does anyone know of the monkey house on the NFOW aside from my floating buddies? Cheers!!
