  1. I buy all my jigs from Flatheadjig.com. Excellent quality and great service. Made in the Ozarks. http://www.flatheadjig.com
  2. Sculpin Olive is a great color as is Black & Yellow. I have caught every kind of fish on Black & Yellow. A new color I have had good luck with is Sculpin Olive & Ginger & Light Olive. Best jigs and the best prices I have found are from Flatheadjig. All of their jigs are made in the Ozarks. http://www.flatheadjig.com
  3. I say Black & Yellow Marabou Jigs. I have fished all over Missouri & the Western US and have caught every kind of trout on Black & Yellow Marabou Jigs in 1/8 oz. or 1/16 oz. Best jigs I have found are from www.flatheadjig.com. Best of all they are made here in Missouri.
  4. Flatheadjigs are located in Lebanon, MO. Best jigs and best prices I have found. Their web site is www.flatheadjig.com
  5. Fish on the bottom. I like Marabou Jigs in 1/8 oz. with gold plated or nickel plated heads. You can find them at Weaver's Tackle at Bennett Spring. Good luck.
  6. Bennett Spring State Park by Lebanon Mo is about 120 Miles from Columbia MO. Great trout fishing. If you need some advice or tackle stop in at Weaver's Tackle Store on Hwy. 64. They have a great fishing report on line.
  7. I have used jigs for trout for a long time. The best I have found are from www.flatheadjig.com. One of the best colors is black & yellow.
  8. Have you ever used plated jig heads. I have had great success with the gold and nickel plated jigs. Don't know if they would make sculpin color jigs, but they do have a contact page. They also say dealer inquires are welcome.
  9. I fish both a spinning and fly rod. The most important thing is light Fluorocarbon line. If you are bouncing a jig you can get by with 4lb. line if it is Fluorocarbon. If you are drift a jig or fly like an egg pattern you will need to go to 6X Fluorocarbon. To keep from breaking off attach 6" of shock gum leader between the line on your reel and the leader. Your leader should be about 18 to 20 inches long. You must get a drag free drift. I like to use a weighted float on my spinning rod made by Betts. It is shaped like a torpedo and will float straight up and down. If it leans in any direction you are not getting a drag free drift. This float is very sensitive and you will see the strike very easily. On my reel I like Fireline from Berkley in 2lb. or 4lb. in clear color. It has a thin diameter so you can get a good cast with light lures, and does not twist up because it does not stretch. Therefore you will detect a lot more strikes. Keep your lures about 6" off the bottom. The jigs I like to use can be bought from www.flatheadjig.com. They have a unique shape and are on smaller hooks than most jigs. They also have plated jigs witch I have with great success with. Hope this helps.
  10. I went to Taneycomo Thursday July 1st and had great sucess with these jigs. Started about Noon drifting 1/80oz. under a float and had a strike on just about every cast. Did not catch everyone but caught plenty. About 2:00PM they started running more water so I switched to a spinning rod and 1/8oz. jigs and caught some real nice fish. My girlfriend caught the biggest one landed, a Rainbow a little over 20" and beautiful color. About 4:00PM we anchored at the Look Out Hole and caught fish until we left at 5:00PM. Colors I used were Black & Yellow with a gold plated head and Olive with a black head. These jigs work a lot better than round heads for me. Has anybody else used these flat head jigs as they are called?
  11. The blank jig heads are on bronze hooks. I always pinch the barb down so the fish is easy to release. I have never caught many fish with a jig in its mouth because the fish can throw them easily. The weight of the jig makes them easy for the fish to throw as compared to a fly. The heads on these jigs have a different shape which makes them have a darting motion in the water compared to a round headed jig. I have noticed even when fishing them under a float they will swim and dart in the current. I also like the size of the hooks used on these jigs. I have not found 1/8oz. jigs with #6 hooks. I have had great success with that size when water is running.
  12. I have found some great jigs for the ozark waters I fish. The site is www.flatheadjig.com. They have ready to use jigs and jig heads you can use for your own creations. These are the only jigs I have found in the sizes and head shape that I like. Have had good luck with them at Taneycomo and the White River.
