What Is A Good Canoe To Fly Fish From?
woodman replied to Jack Jones's topic in Lodging, Camping, Kayaking and Caoneing
A custom handmade wood one..light and rugged.....Isn't their a guy down in Springfield making wood boats? Now here would be a wood boat option..ugly ..but stable. http://www.bluewaterdories.com/ -
People would be surprised just how tuff epoxy and fiberglass reinforces wood. It will take knocks scrapes grinds with no problem..Knock a hole in the hull and patch it with epoxy and you are on you're way the next day....I coat the bottom of the hull with a mixture of graphite powder and epoxy resin ...I t lets the boat slide over rocks etc. without gouging.... Last year while camped at Indian Creek campground on 71 hwy I got to talking to the owner about the abuse people put his boats through and how hard the plastic boats are to repair...He was impressed at how easy a wood boat can be repaired... And if you think skin covered boats are delicate watch this and see how tuff nylon is... http://kudzucraft.kudzupatch.com/video/toughboat.php

This ought to get you're blood flowing.....I once heard a state worker say we were lucky they don't tax more of our possessions like refrigerators and such.. MURFREESBORO, TN (WSMV) - The Tennessee Department of Revenue is threatening court action against a Murfreesboro man who built a small wooden boat in his garage with his 7-year-old son. The state says that makes him a boat dealer and subject to paying extra taxes. The boat is 14 feet long and made of wood. The family ordered the plans over the Internet because 7-year-old Carter loves to fish with his dad. http://www.wsmv.com/story/16773393/state-threatens-suit-against-boat-hobbiests

Shoal Creek Tresspass Closure!

What if Prater is reading these posts and decides to drop some tree, to create an obstacle across the river ..sort of like a dare? Im ready for another spring float with a new boat... -
I had good luck last year fishing Berkley Gulp (Smelt 4 inch Minnows) on a 1/16 oz jig. Fished like a dying-wounded minnow.... If you have fished with live shiners like I have as a kid back in the early 60's on the Elk and Big Sugar I got to see and study how the bass react to all sorts of presentations etc....Catching bass on dead minnows twitching the line every so often created strikes..

Sounds good like to meet more local boat builders.... My shop should be free from the cabinet job I'm doing pretty soon, so Jim can bring his material over so we can start on his Pirogue.. I'd like to paddle that lake sometime.. -
