  1. I think I need a beetle made from jerky. It's dried... never heard of a trout eating any of it... and if I'm running late... I got breakfast. Maybe I can have it with my cup of unnatural coffee made from unnatural beans. ha-ha-ha-haaaaaaaaa Me so funny.
  2. There are some bass jigs, frog baits, etc out now that have a coffee flavor. So SOMEBODY thinks coffee would attract a fish. Use at your own risk....Michael has tried to warn you.
  3. I have been up there several times but not for a few years. We always fished the Rainy River at International Falls. Each trip was different. Sometimes we caught mostly Northern Pike, other years the smallmouths were good. The most fun trip I had was fishing War Eagle spinnerbaits and catching massive northerns. Biggest fish I ever saw was a northern a friend caught while in my boat and we could not get him/her in the net. It was easily 10-12" across the brow and no doubt world-class! Lesson learned... "We gotta get a bigger net." Be sure to buy some Canada's Saskatoon Jam while you're up there. Best stuff EVER on a warm biscuit. Good luck to ya' all!!!!!!!
  4. Chili Dogs.... Beer.... Waders. I think that's called the Smokestack Effect!!!
  5. We too had a catalpa tree in our yard growing up although it was smaller than yours. We lived in northeast Missouri, Hannibal. Had catalpa worms every year. Last worms I saw on a catalpa tree was over 10 years ago. I don't know WHAT happened to them!
  6. LM- 8lbs. -Doty spinner w/ white spintail porkrind. Early spring years ago. Farm pond. SM- 6+lbs. -Jig & spin frog. Just before season opened. Osage Fork of Gasconade.
  7. Phil, Went to Alaska years ago and always wanted to go back with my sons. They have no idea how exciting silvers can be. I wish you all the best. Maybe someday all the stars will line up and I can work a trip out. I think you'd be an excellent host. God bless, ~Rich
  8. Specifically, what are you looking for? I have a custom flyrod made for me that has never seen a stream. It's a 4-wgt.
  9. Scale them sometime and rub them with oil. Place them on your grill. Once done, dip the meat in clarified butter like lobster. Ooo-eeeee baby!
  10. Oh my gawsh, that brings back memories. I LOVE doing that. Had loads of ponds I used to fish when I lived in central Missouri. Now I live in Springfield and farm ponds are in short supply. Congrats. Looks like a fantastic fish fry is in your future.
  11. My daughter used to tell people that her DAD had the best colored fingernail polish but that he wouldn't share with her. You got to be a manly-man to weather that kind of talk!!!
  12. Ohhhhhhhh, spray paint cans.... "Well, bust my buttons. That's a horse of a diff'rent color!" Done that myself...works great. Another item that works great is fingernail polish. On poppers AND jigs.
  13. Well now, that's cool. I make some weedless smallmouth jigs and my first step is to tie some Hard mason to the hook and angle towards hook. Never thought about altering mold to hold a weedguard. Hmmmmmm... Oh, by the way...what's a rattlecan???
  14. Taught fly tying for years and when students said they were taking up fly-tying (or jig tying) to save money I always advised them that they will not save money. But they will be able to create EXACTLY what they want which oftentimes is not available commercially. I believe if you have confidence in what you are fishing with, you usually WILL catch more fish!
  15. This is just my 2 cents..... I don't think you need any $100 fluid bed. Never even heard of such a thing & I've tied loads of jigs. Pour the jigs, heat 'em with a lighter, dip them in the powder paint, cure them in a toaster oven if you want, & dress them to fit your preferences. Heck fire, we're talking about JIGS here... You might lose it on a stump the first time you cast it out!!!! No big deal...keep it cheap & just tie on another one.
  16. I missed the finale of "Breaking Bad" after watching all season. My DVR did not record for some reason. It was EPISODE 13: ABQ It aired a week or so ago. Anyone by chance tape it??? Thanks.
  17. I am interested in purchasing a small 4-stroke outboard. Thought I'd try here before buying a brand new one. Can be as small as 2 hp up to 5 or so. Prefer internal tank. Will consider buying, trading, or bartering. Let me know if you have something. Thanks.
  18. CONGRATULATIONS VINCE. A nice record for a nice guy! Uh, yes, they are awesome to eat. As good a walleye.
  19. Yes. We called it 'poor man's lobster' and dunked it in clarified butter. Not as healthy but soooooo good.
  20. i thought it was a great magazine as well and still have most of the old issues. I'd like to have the few issues I missed if anyone has some they are going to get rid of. Warmwater Flyfishing was publised by the same group who did American Angler and Saltwater Flyfishing. Akebani Group...or something like that.
  21. Muskies... Pomme... Haverstick Cove. 'Nuff said!
  22. I have a Sage 486-3LL that has seen the water maybe 2X if you'd be interested. Sweet rod. I'd sell for a fair price. I just prefer 5-6 wgts. Let me know.
  23. Does it have stealth capabilities like the B-2 bomber? Looks like it might.
  24. Congratulations Phil. I have 2 Granddaughters, one of which will be 1 year old tomorrow. Nothing like having them reach for you and saying, "Paw-Paw". True blessings!
