  1. Went down after work to get in a few hours before tomorrow's big draw-down. BEAUTIFUL evening. My wife Kathy went along for the ride. I fished while she read a book. It was nice to have the company. Fog wasn't too awful bad and there weren't many others on the water; only 2 other boats including mine. One of the boats was Phil's. I believe he and Leonard were fishing jigs. I think they were doing ok....I'll let them give their 2 cents if they want to. Motored my Lund up to the cable. Saw several fly-fishermen with fish on. Quite a few fishing at Outlet One including a guy from Minnesota who pulled in and had beached his boat there. I bet the locals loved that. Ha.....I guess it takes all kinds. Long story short. Caught about 10. 1 brown, the rest rainbows in about 2 hours or so. Very colorful fish...lots of deep pink along their sides. Biggest was a 17 incher pictured below. Started with a gold cleo. Caught maybe 4 including my only brown. Switched to a brown trout rapala & did better. Released them all. Had pizza at Luigi's in Branson before heading home. Very good!!! Summary....a wonderful evening catching some of the most beautiful creatures God ever created.
  2. Thanks for the link. Wonder what tributary it was being dumped in?
  3. What are the particulars??????????????????
  4. If a guy lived in Springfield and wanted to catch a mess o' bluegills fly-fishing, spin fishing, or watching a float.....bank or boat; where would you recommend he go? I'd like to go Friday eve... Mama's fish hungry. Thanks.
  5. My wife just told me that she thought she heard an announcement on the news that some sewage had been dumped into Taneycomo. She may have been mistaken but I got on the forum as you'd all be the first to know..... any truth to it?
  6. Gotta tell you. Had a church picnic a few weeks ago. Have a group of about 5 guys who always help man the grill with me...great guys!! Made up a bunch of these (1st time) to treat them while we cooked burgers for the church. Some of them were a little skittish to eat them when I told them what they were. Until they tried them.... Now they ask if I'm going to bring them. Wonderful!!! Plan to eat a bunch of them come football tailgate season. M-I-Z......Z-O-U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  7. Is Taneycomo on it? And if so, does it really show anything of that lake? Thanks.

    Scam

A 'heads up' for those men who may be regular Home Depot customers. Over the last month I became a victim of a clever scam while out shopping. Simply going out to get supplies has turned out to be quite traumatic. Don't be naive enough to think it couldn't happen to you or your friends. Here's how the scam works: Two seriously good-looking 21 to 25 year-old girls come over to your car as you are packing your shopping into the trunk. They both start wiping your windshield with a rag and Windex, with their breasts almost falling out of their skimpy T-shirts. It is impossible not to look. When you thank them and offer them a tip, they say 'No' and instead ask you for a ride to another store. You agree and they get in the backseat. On the way, they start undressing. Then one of them climbs over into the front seat and starts crawling all over you and loving on you to distract you, while the other one steals your wallet. I had my wallet stolen June 4th, 9th, 10th, twice on the 15th, 17th, 20th, 24th & 29th. Also July 1st, 4th, twice on the 8th, 16th, 23rd, 26th, 29th, three times last Saturday and very likely again this upcoming weekend. So tell your friends to be careful! P.S. Wal-Mart has wallets on sale for $ 1.99
  9. Depending on your mood, I bet Marsha would say sometimes you ARE a crabby boat captain!
  10. While my latest fishing report was while fishing from my boat, I can offer the following: a.) Many were fly-fishing from boats and seemed to be doing very well. b.) Outlet 1 was a circus. Maybe 12 or more beating that small area to a froth. Looked awful to me. c.) Outlet 2 had only one or two anglers on it most of the times I went past it.
  11. Yes, it is okay.
  12. "Ooooo...boys, it's hot!!!!!" But my friend Steve Wagner and I went fishing anyway. Started Friday evening the 1st, by running my boat up to the cable. I began with some jigs I'd tied and Steve began by throwing a gold countdown rapala. He was into fish almost immediately. I tried several different color jigs and just couldn't get bit. I think I only had one solid strike. Eventually I switched to a rainbow trout countdown and began sticking some nice fish as well. Here's one I'm releasing that went a little over 17 inches. We finally quit as the fog was thicker than good gumbo. Got up early in Springfield the next morning (Sat 8/2) & headed back down to the tailwater. After a Krispy Creme stop for donuts & coffee, Steve and I arrived at the ramp & launched my Lund & ran back up to the cable. That morning we began with cleos and "we chose well". We caught chunks on both sides of the stream. The water levels have been healthy for Taney's trout...no doubt about it!! Saw Chuck Gries from Angler's & Archery Fly Shop. He was on a guide trip and his clients were getting lots of strikes as well. Finally, Steve says he's hooked a big fish and I grabbed the net. After a good fight, we net a 22 1/4 inch rainbow. It had a girth of 13.5 inches. Beautiful thick fish. Caught on a cleo. Took a l-o-n-g time to revive it but it finally seemed strong and we let it swim out of our rubber net and back home. Eventually we floated on down and decided it was just too hot-hot-hot. Ended with a few casts below the MDC Boat Ramp near Cooper Creek. Caught a small white bass and called it quits. Took the boat out and the thermometer on my truck said the temp in the parking lot stated 105. OHMYGAWSH! No wonder we had sweat dripping in our eyes. It was about 1:45pm and we saw Chuck from Anglers & Archery again. He was launching his new flatbottom again as he had another guide trip starting at 2pm. THAT'S dedication....whew!!!!!! Finished the trip by stopping for a couple of cold Andy's concrete's. (Hint: getting a boat on a trailer thru the Andy's drive-thru ain't for the skittish.) ha Anyway....Trout, friends, and Andy's.... Good ol' Dog days in the Ozarks.
  13. For the love of Pete... please keep those d*** things off Taney!
  14. With the Fall season at Taney just around the corner, now might be a good time to ask about having replica's made. If you want a replica made, anything needed besides: a.) measurements (length, girth)? b.) photos (specifically what angles?) Who would you recommend to do it? Someone good to work with, pleasant to talk to, Pays attention to detail, who'll make a replica that looks like they are supposed to? Who do YOU think does the best job in this area? Thanks.
  15. So, let me get this straight...... Charging hungry bear.... First thing you do is grab the salmon and run with it?????? Hmmm....... "Hey Moe, watch this...nyuk, nyuk." Word to self.....Michael left his brain in Missouri. (I can't wait to hear this one first-hand) ha-haaaaaaaa
  16. They don't allow 21 foot fish & ski's above Fall Creek. Nope. Not ever.

    Snakes

As the song goes.... "I don't like spiders & snakes...." There are 1000's of places to live if you're a snake but if you insist on being near me... my Dad taught me to get the hoe!!!! I'll let you pass if possible but if you lollygag; I'll turn you into 50 little pieces. "He will bite your heel, You will smash his head." Peta, no letters please.
  18. I think my connection is starting to go bad as it just shuts off. Then I jiggle the unit & wiggle the cord and turn it back on. All I've ever used it for was keeping track of my depth...especially at night. The color ones intrigue me but it's alot of money just to see the bottom in red vs. black. Was curious if anyone uses one and really knows how to make it work for them on Taneycomo. I'd love to get with a depthfinder guru sometime that could REALLY teach me the advantages of using one. IE: Could I see a 20 lb brown pass under my boat??
  19. I have a Garmin Depthfinder that is starting to act up so I thought I'd shop for a different one. Those of you who fish Taney by boat....any recommendations? What are you using and why? I have never seen fish beneath my boat on Taney...although I know they're there. Thanks in advance.
  20. IF they stocked channel cats in Taneycomo..... I would NOT be catch-and-releasing those! Can you imagine how good those would fry up under Phil's shelter house???? ha "Honestly, I was drifting a nightcrawler and my pole just shot outta the boat!" heh-heh

    American Idol

That's ok Trav.....we only pay attention to about half your comments anyway. heh-heh.
  22. Nothing like being Missouri boys is there??? ha
  23. Thanks. It's good to know somebody's got my back!
  24. True. Somebody went in "after-the-fact" and deleted their flathead comments. Just so you guys know I haven't lost my mind.....totally...yet.
  25. Your opinions are yours. I catch-n-release alot..... but I also enjoy a good fish fry. That said, I do not keep smallmouth. I consider 3 fish untouchables.... smallmouth bass, brown trout, & muskies. All Alpha predators in their respective waters.
