  1. I boat in the trophy section quite a bit and I will occasionally keep fish under 12". Personally I wouldnt take a 20" or over fish; but that's just me. But you are most certainly allowed to keep fish outside the slot limit and I support those who do. That said.... under 12 inchers fry up nice! But... I do not keep browns EVER! Too awesome to catch.
  2. Brian, They did considerably more than 4. And i have alot of them. Which one you missing? I might have an extra. Loo10
  3. So true. Most magazines have some good issues and then some that you wonder if anyone really proof-read them. They're just filled with worthless gunk. Like journeyman said, Flytyer used to be awesome but seems lately it's just got wierd stuff in it that just doesn't apply to me. One that used to be great and they quit printing it was Warmwater Flyfishing. I loved it. Then they just discontinued it. Without the advertising clout of the trout fishing behind it, I guess it just couldn't keep up; but i picked up some almost magical bass & bluegill patterns in it over the years.
  4. Tim, I run a graphite grey 1700 Angler tiller with a 75 hp Honda on it. If you see me...yell. I look forward to hearing from you. Merry Christmas! ~loo10
  5. There is a map put out by the Conservation Dept. called "Missouri Trout". I think it's exactly what you want. You can get them at about any local conservation office. At No charge.
  6. This would be a neat thing to find out about but I imagine there are many, many combined strains. Like people, different fish pick up different traits of their ancestors. Thanks for the pictures. Given a choice...I'd take 3rd from the top.
  7. Tim, I run a Lund on Taney. LOVE IT!!! So does Chuck at Anglers & Archery in Branson. He too, loves his. I bought mine from Smithville Marine, north of KC. Email me at rloo10@hotmail.com and I'll give you a salesman's name who I highly recommend. ~Rich (loo10)
  8. Ahhhhhhh...Crane Creek: Where the snakes fangs are bigger than your fish
  9. Gotta get my 2 cents in here: 1.) Wishing My Father Well by Wm Plummer A memoir of fathers, Sons, and Fly-Fishing 2.) Fly Fishing through the Midlife Crisis by Howell Raines
  10. Over the past many years I have regularly read and subscribed to most of the magazines mentioned. Now I have narrowed it down to two that are consistently interesting and have useable "stuff". They are: Midwest Flyfishing Magazine & Flyfishing and Tying Journal. Both offer articles that help me escape and some of the most fish-catching patterns for me to tie and use.
  11. Landau Boats in Lebanon, Missouri went belly-up in November.
  12. Absolutely gorgeous fish. With all the spots...it looked like an Alaskan rainbow; rightfully called an "Alaskan Leopard". Thanks for the picture. His creation is truly magnificant!

    Crawfish

I saved the article. My Mom goes to church with that guy's sister. I'll be buying some traps and giving it a shot come spring. I've heard dog food isnt that great a bait... but that's what they said to use in the article.
  14. There's more to this question than meets the eye.... ANY boat you purchase will have advantages and will have drawbacks. I'm on my 4th boat. And I've learned with each one. Here's some questions you might ask yourself: 1.) Who's usually going to fish in it? You'll want to make sure it's roomy enough for you & your gear... Or you and your buddy's gear. Falling over stuff ain't my idea of livin'. 2.) Is it easy to launch BY MYSELF? Nothing will ruin a trip faster than having trouble at the end of the day trying to get your boat back on the trailer...in current...when it's cold! 3.) Do I want a console or tiller steer? Console comfortable running long distances, tiller's much roomier. 4.) What is my budget? Don't skimp on the motor. You will NEVER regret getting a bigger engine. And finally, my personal 2 cents. GET A FOUR-STROKE. I've never regretted them for an instant. They are quiet, economical, and reliable. You cant catch a fish youve already scared the bugs out of!! Good luck. Buying a new boat is one of life's simple pleasures. Let me know when you're ready to break it in.

    Crawfish

Oh I'm definately going to do this. I just need someone who's willing to steer me in the right direction. Oily fish would be best. I wish I could use the heads of the trout I clean but I've been told "no" cause it's a game fish. I have another idea though. A pot of crawfish and a couple a cold ones is A+ in my book.
  16. I would not touch a possum. And, mink are in the weasel family, same as a skunk, and they have the musk glands. They stink, although not as bad as skunk...but what is? SKUNK DON'T STINK THE WORST BUT THEY STINKS THE MOST.

    Crawfish

I'd really like to hook up with someone who catches some of the big ol' crawfish that are in Table Rock. Anybody willing to hook up and teach an ol' dawg some new tricks? I'd appreciate it alot. By the way... I know they aren't in season now. But I want to be ready.
  18. Go back a page or two on this forum and look up a post titled, "HAVE YOU SEEN MANY OF THESE IN THE TROPHY AREA?" It shows walleye caught this fall on Taney...with pics. Howz THAT for service?
  19. I have always enjoyed watching the streamside wildlife as I drifted Taney. Commented last trip how it'd be a great place to live if I was a critter: lots to eat... nothing to bother you... guess I spoke too soon. Im not really against hunting or trapping at all. I just like seeing the wildlife along the shore. Hope you guys aren't TOO successful.
  20. Thanks. I do the same as Greg. Save it as background on my computer. Reminds me why I'm working.... to pay for my fishing gear.
  21. Has anyone seen an aerial photo of the new spillway at TR? If water has to come thru that dude...where's it going? Does it endanger the hatchery? It'd almost have to wouldn't it? With what's happening over at Taum Sauk Dam...it makes you wonder.
  22. Same here.... I get the office cam & dock cam... no underwater cam. Help.
  23. Here's how this Fly Masters thing goes, we could alter it anyway we chose. 2 person teams. Random drawing for section of water assigned to fish. One fisher in the water at a time, must tag off to switch fishers. It's based on length. First fish caught by each fisher always counts. Then you get to fish for one additional fish. When you release it; it is your second on record fish. Then you quit OR..... if you make another cast, that fish is off the board. Total length in inches by team (2 maximum per person/4 per team)is winner. In the show, flies used are tied the night before and are the only flies used. I dont see any reason to do that in this case. Might be something fun to do during catch-n-release. As far as the $25,000 prize...heck, Phil Lilley's the one who's making all the money 'round here.
  24. Did you ever see the show "Flyfishing Masters"? Awesome concept. Would be great for the Rendezvous at RR.
  25. Best advice I can give you to help you enjoy a nite fishing on the Taney tailwater.... Keep the water on the OUTSIDE of your waders!
