  1. The high water floast that I'm talking about you can get here or at Wal-mart and the glow stick will fit inside of it after you drill it out a little.
  2. I wouldn't think so. In some areas of the United States the fishery would be shut down for the hot water. I would think that the mortality rates are going to be high. In fact the days that I have been down during the day I have seen a lot of dead fish.
  3. Blisters from the hot water, I took the water temp on Monday and the surface temp was 63.
  4. Zach stop by and I will show you. What You need is a high water indicator they are about 1.5" long you will need to drill it out I believe it takes a 5/32 drill bit so that the glow stick will fit into it. You will also want to paint the indicator if not they will be like a floating beacon. Michael
  5. I do not have them Talk to Chuck or any golf store thats what they are used for as well. They drill a hole in the ball and use them for driving ranges or I guess playing at night on a lighted course.
  6. Yes you will not need to keep them warm this winter, I made sure of that. (LOL)
  7. Whats up with all the Pop Ups on this Forum. They just started I have my pop up blocker on and my filter set as high as I can get. Phil can you look into this please. Thanks Michael
  8. Hey guys, The conclave was great Kelly Galloup, Tim Rajeff & Rea Topping did a great job with there programs. The tiers did a great job aswell. There were so many programs it is hard to hit them all but with what everyone said they were all great. The corp shut the Norfork Dam down so that we could have our on the water programs on Thursday. I am very excited about next year I can't say why yet but I know it is going to be huge, Larry Babon from Blue Ribbon Fly Shop will be the conclave chair and I will be the Auction Raffle chair for 2009. One thing that we have started is the new Forum on the Soc web page the address is http://forums.southrencouncilfff.org Hope everyone can make it down next year. Michael
  9. I have not heard much this time around about the water release, I was just wanting to make sure everyone down stream is doing alright. If anyone needs anything I will do what I can to help. Michael
  10. I say yes, This is already a world class fishery for Browns. If they will make it 24" holly crap hold on in a couple of years there will be so many big browns, not that there are any right now. It took me a long time I think about 15 years to break the 10 pound barrier with browns. If this happens everyone will have the opportunity to break the 10 pound mark a lot sooner.
  11. Sorry been very busy today I just ssaw the question. it was high enough when I took him up to the cable we had to come in off the Island.
  12. I hope that You guys don't get tired of reading these everyday. I just wanted to tell everyone how hot the fishing is. I took Andrew out last night for his very first night time experience and I am pretty sure he is hooked. Got on the water at 11 went to the point and it was slow, thought that it would be but I wanted to see if it had recovered from the shocking yet. Went up to the cable and it was on, fished a black slump buster stripping it back at a moderate pace and they were nailing it. Not a lot of fish on the top last night did try it but not worth the time. I wouldn't put them up yet though. There will be some nights in the next couple of weeks that will be hot with hoppers. Biggest fish last night was right 20 inches did have few that have a 18 inches last night and the rest were avg Taney fish. Will not be down there tonight I have a day trip tomorrow. Good Luck Tight Lines Michael
  13. Yep it seems pretty much the same but last niht I just fished on the North side
  14. I noticed yesterday that they were going to shut the water off at 9pm, I thought that was strange for the last couple days of August. With all the time that I had put in with the MDC you would think that I would have remembered that is usually this time of year they shock Taneycomo. Sure enough as I made my way down to the Wall Of Fame area here they came 4 boats with the flood lights on and generators going. I will have to say it quite a sight from this view point. When I worked for them I was the one with my net in hand. They must have had a new guy driving a boat because they were stuck on the gravel bar down by Big hole and the rocking chair hole made me chuckle and brought back a few good memories. One of which Jeff and I were working the front of the boat and netting fish as they popped up I heard oh my god look at this monster it was a Brown Trout that would have been the new world record. Chris Veltelo had left his camera back at the truck we took it measurements and it weighed by the formula right at 43 pounds. So I know there are some monsters in there, I guess that is my drive and motivation that keeps me coming back. OK now for the report Since they were shocking form the point down we went up to the cable and fished there were fish working the surface all over I had to try the good old mohair leech, I did catch a few fish but no trout, they were some small mouth bass. Nothing of real size but they were around 14-15 inches a lot of fun. With the fish busting the top what else should we do, I told Jeremy lets try a hopper so we both tied on a foam hopper. We caught several fish on them here is another pic When you fish a hopper at night you fish it just as you would a mouse burn it back across the top. That's why we fished a hopper, I had forgotten my mice at home on my bench. But hoppers work too you must use foam though it has to be able to make a wake and stay on top. There will be no doubt when you hook a fish they will just attack the fly. Looks like it is shaping up to be a great fall lots of healthy fish. See you tonight on the water. Tight Lines Michael
  15. Yep I have had people tell me the same. I had the camera I took a pic to prove it. I am a firm believer in crayfish patterns for big browns
  16. yea a few more and we could of had a boil
  17. Yes it was aero generation, they were not letting the water out down at power site. That will keep the level high at the dam. when this happens you have to go to the electricity chart and that will tell you that it is off. Wow so many charts and graphs where is Ross Perot when you need him
  18. Got down to Taney Saturday night about 11:30 with couple of buddies Barry and Jeremy. There were a few cars in the parking lot and looked to be some of the worlds problems being discussed and I'm sure we were solving them faster than anyone in Washington can do. It was great to talk with everyone sorry I did not stick around I was just on a mission and that is to fish with the falling water. We started fishing above outlet 3 and working our way down to the not so pointy point as we worked down whipping striping streamers we did manage to land a few. As the half moon came up and created some more light I decided to go down to the big hole and the rocking chair hole. I had my heart set on wading across to the south bank and fishing toward the north but with them holding the water down at power site which made the level up where we were to be at 702.7 you were going to get wet. So we spread out and fished the North bank. We caught several fish striping the good ol Mohair Leech. I was getting hit just about every cast and hooking up on quite a few. I asked Jeremy what color he was using and he was using Evil Leprechaun. Barry was using the Electric Blue,. It was pretty much non stop action until we left at 4:30am I had not planed to go down on Sunday night but at about 7:30 a very good friend called and said he would come up from Nixa to Springfield and pick me up then go back down south. I think he wanted me to go. Russel and I got down to the dam at about 11:30 ans they had already shut it down only one car in the parking lot. We rigged and went out started out at the point catching a few small ones. I asked Russel if he wanted to catch some bigger fish and after a few comments that I cant repeat I said follow me. We headed to the Wall of Fame the fishing was slow But when you would catch a fish it was a good one , I caught 21 and quit, Russel said he wanted to tie me so he fished for about 10 minutes longer for one more fish. we caught several fish that were 17-19 inches and very fat. the biggest fish I caught and landed was a 21 incher. Last night we were fishing the Mohair Leeches It pretty much did not matter what color I think I caught a fish on every color I casted. I did try the new Sclupzila and caught a few on it. I will get a pic and down load it Latter I spotted these fish Last weekend as I motored my drift boat right over them as we drifted back down we caught a few there are a few big boys in there I can here them working the top just no hooks up with them yet. I really think this pattern is going to hold up off at midnight on the weekends. Here is a pic of a crawdad we we mesasured it and it was about 8 inches long the reel in the picture is a Velocity 2 Tight Lines Michael

  20. I would have to say the best steak in town is Candlestick Inn on the Bluff across from the landing For 2 it will run about 65-70 bucks kin of pricey but very good. There is a Mexican restaurant at the landing that is awesome my wife and I are in love with it, plus they have one of the bone in rib eye that I have ever had. Micahel
  21. Not a problem any time, like said though I owe you a night with indicator. Michael
  22. Tim, Barry, and myself got down to Taney at about noon. We motored up to the point and started catching fish swinging soft hackles after about an hour of doing so we decided that we had enough of that. I rowed the boat across to the north bank and as we made our way down the bank of the big hole and the rocking chair hole, we were catching a fish on just about every cast using a hopper. Slam it down on the water and twitch once or twice fish on. We continued down to the Point Royal Island and caught a few more on the hopper at KOA, when we got down to Point Royal we parked the Clacka and fished the back side of the Island there were several people fishing the front side. We came back around to the front side the crowds had left and several good spots opened up. Tim put on a San Juan with a Copper John dropper, I put a Sculpin on and Barry opted to stay with the Hopper. We were fishing all with in 50 to 75 yards of each other and had quite a few doubles and triples on. Nothing real big but a lot of 15-17" fish. I did spot a nice Bow that would go about 24", I had it on and tried to horse just to much and broke him off. I am trying to condition myself be for I go back to Alaska in September, There is an IGFA 1kg Record that I am going to try and break. So as they say practice makes perfect and what a way to practice for it. I have fished 1kg line every time I go out for the past couple of months and sometimes I forget that I have it on. If any one catches a fish with a sculpin can I have it back(LOL). I think right Now is the best Taney has fished in a few years with all the water that has ran over the past few months it has created some very healthy fish. Plus from the Point Royal area up to the dam it is packed full of fish. Good Luck Michael
  23. I can't wait it is going to be awesome, if last night with the water off is any indication it will be better than awesome it will be explosive.
  24. I just called and it is off right now. I hope the driver or anyone else that might have been in the vehicle are alright. I wonder how that will effect them turning it off at 19:00
  25. Yes you are right I basically had to where a steel suit in shop class. I thought that I was living a normal life on the farm growing up but I guess that is not normal when the ER Doctor Knows you by name. I had not seen that doctor for several years one day this guy walks in the shop, I told him he looks familiar to me after about a 15 minute conversation we figured out he was th ER doctor at St. Johns. He started to laugh he said he did not think I would live to be this old. I tried to post back about Olivia and some reason it would not let me. All the test come back looking good they said she has Gastritis bad. Which is the inflammation of the stomach due to and over production of acid. We now have her on a daily dose of Zantac. They are pretty sure she will grow out of this. About the only bad side effect that is going to last for a while is the accute asthma that she now has. I really appreciate all of thoughts and prayers and the kind PM's from everyone.
