Listen to what Trav says about the lower lake he knows his stuff. If someone would come in and say that they were new to fly fishing and wanted to Trout fish and had a budget they needed to stick to, which we all have one. I would recommend a floating line, then I would show you some high water indicators, then set you up with Turner Jones Micro Jigs they are awesome. I sale them and so does Phil and I am pretty sure that Tim down at Roaring River, he owns Tim's Fly Shop sales them too. I have my best luck with olive with a gold head and then the white with a pink head. You do not need any thing fancy and you sure do not need to complicate things with a lot of gear. Remember the old rule J.K.I.S. (just keep it simple). Now for the Bluegills, I just don't that it gets any better than using a light action rod like a 2 or 3 weight. I like using small nymphs or small dry flies. I like Scuds, Prince Nymphs, for dry flies my number one go to fly is an Elk Hair Caddis size 14 or 16. Good Luck Michael

Taxidermist I do not even have to look at the pic's I know what two pics you are going to show. One of a guy and a kid holding what looks to be a dead fish, that they caught and froze because they did not know what they had. Then one of a guy holding a fish in the hatchery, that he caught in the rebar hole on a fly rod. You need to figure out for yourself which one it is. I'm sure your buddy picked up a fish out of Florida. I for one would not buy a fish to hang on my wall that I did not catch. The reason I have the fish on my wall is that we are a fly shop and a very good friend of myself and my father caught the fish. We decided that in a small mom and pop fly shop that the fish would be appreciated more than letting go to a big box store. Plus the big box store only wanted to mount a fish that they already had. They said that no one would know. We do have the original mold and we are not going to let go of it or any fish out of it. As stated in my previous post We want to protect my friend and his accomplishment. It is the current state record and is the current I.G.F.A 3kg World Line Class Record. I wish you the best with your ventures. Michael

Not to me. Unfortunately that's the society that we live in the almighty DOLLAR. If it did not produce a revenue there would be several guides, fly shop, and lodge owners that are on this site that would not be able to operate. Plus there are several people that are employed by such business that would not have a job. So you can think what you want about the money thing.

I have not really been paying attention to this thread but you all have some good thoughts and if the better thoughts were presented to the right people, the right way they might consider doing some thing different. I have caught big fish all up and down Taney from the top to the bottom. I am 33 and last year was the first year I caught a Brown over 10 pounds, I have had a few on but never got one to hand until last fall. Here is a pic I have caught quite a few rainbows that would come close to the 10 lb mark but nothing over 10 pounds. I would like to think that people would see the revenue that this fishery brings in for the state and understand that if it were destroyed by interjecting other species, what it might do to the surrounding business people. It could be very devastating. One last note In an earlier post #146 there was mention of some one having a the Missouri State Record Brown Trout mold and could make replicas of it and limited quantities were available. I and two other people have the original fish made out of the mold plus I own the original mold. we can make all the replicas you want just let me know. Michael

Hello, I have been absent from the whole night game for a while since the flooding and the big move for our shop, but I have been the last couple of nights and it is fishing awesome. It is great that the corp is shutting the water down but I wish they would just drain the lake a little more, than 12 hours a day. We started back down on Saturday night and started at the point and worked our way down to the big hole the same thing on Sunday. The fishing is hot just about every cast you will get hit, I have been starting at the droping of the water and fishing until about 3:30am. Tim and I did cacth a few Long Ear Sun Fish and some Crappie, and a lot of Trout. Looks like MDC may have just stocked some fish a lot of silver bullets. We did catch quite a few fish that were around 16-17inches. If you are not on the bottom it seems like you are not catching fish. I have been using a leech and a woolly stripping it very slow and POW all most take the rod out of your hand. Fat and sassy very Healthy looking fish. We have been having our best luck with black and peacock size 10 and 12, I would say the reason for the luck on the color is how dingy the water is at night, usually with a full moon or a bright night white will work. I only caught a few on white. We are having 50+ fish every night Get out and fish while you can when the Lower white Mississippi get where they can hold some water they are going to cut it lose. Here are a few pics

That is a deal; if you want a full experience of catching big fish and being able to have people take care of you then this is what you want. Jim runs a first class operation and I promise you if you will listen to them you will catch and land a Rainbow of your dreams. We go the last week in September and the weather is awesome Highs in the 50s and lows in the upper 30s and rain everyday, but you will not think of the rain when you are landing your 30 incher. I am not sure how many 30 inchers as a group we had on but I do know that we had 11 to hand with my wifes being the biggest of the group 34 inches. If I could stay for one of those weeks I would. Here is a pic of Kristina and her ace in hole guide Phil Again Thanks Phil Michael

Thank you for taking notice, I have worked my butt off to do this and hope that I will be able to break more. It is not official yet should be a couple of weeks until we know for sure, They are testing the tippet as we speak. I have to say this I hope that David Freeman saw it, He is the one that pretty much taught me everything about White Bass fishing in this area. We miss you David. Michael

Phil, We hope for the best for your family and your resort, if you need anything please do not hesitate to pick the phone up and call. You and your family will be in our prayers. Also you might edit your first post last sentence Michael

According to the news it has and drifted down about 300 yards. I hope that everyone is safe, this is a a very tragic event I for one never thought that I would see a a 500 year flood. If any one needs any thing or just needs a place to hang out to get away from all of this for a while please feel free to stop by. My doors and ears are always open. Everyone down there is in our prayers. Michael

You can But it is more difficult if you you were going to use a one handed rod you need to make sure it is a long rod like 11 feet. TFO has one then Sage Does make a switch rod. I have regular spey rods though and they work great for no back casting room. One thing that you could do is rig up with a shooting line and chuck and duck no need for back casting room. Works great for high water Michael
-
You might have to learn how to spey cast if this keeps up and I would be more than willing to teach you.

Water is very High we were down Friday and Saturday night and each night it had risen about 4-6 feet. I was told today that the water was up next to the baracades there at Kisse Mills Camp ground Bridge Road. We did find fish Friday night about 3 -4 miles up from the bridge. Hopefully it will go down. Michael

I have to agree thats the only way we are going to get it back. But like I said I have only had one or two females that we kept all week.

Four Nights in a row and this was the slowest of them all. I was really surprised that there were not more people down last night with all the action that has been going on. But maybe it is packed during the day, I think thats when the sane person fishes. Not 100% sure on that comment though. Any way we put in at the 160 bridge and boated up to the Tea Tables and right off the bat first 2 cast 17 and an 18 inch White. And that was it for a little while Duane and Jeremy had a few little males in that time but nothing of real size. Decided to start drifting down and thats when we started getting back into them we were fishing a 7 1/2 foot sinking leader that had a sink rate of 5.6 inches/second with a grey and white clouser size 6. We were just swinging it and letting it sit right on the bottom and not moving it very much. The water has cleared up a lot, a lot debris still on the top floating down and there was starting to get a pretty good river flow back last night which made it nice for drifting and anchoring. The fish are really holding tight to the bottom and next to all of the submerged vegitation. Do not be afraid of getting up in the all weeds. but just as long as you are touching bottom as it works down stream no bottom touching no fish. I have caught a lot of White bass in my short life but I did have a first last night my very first 20" White, It was just a litltle over 20" and I weighed it on my IGFA certified Boga Grip and it weighed just over 5 pounds. What a fish. There are a lot of white bass up but there eggs are not bloody and out of the fish that I have cleaned this week not very many of them have been females. I think with the weather that is forcast for the up coming week end that it might really get hot next week if we do not get a lot of rain. Oh yea almost forgot the water temp was running last night 55-56 Duane has the pics so I hope he will post them again Good luck to all that go out today. Michael

Duane and myself fished untill 2am the fish did not turn on until 11pm. I fished a150 and a 200 grain sink tip nothing going on Duane was kicking my but with a 7.5'sinking leader on a floating line. We were just swinging it and they were knocking the fire out of it. We had about 60 fish between the 2 of us. And I'm pretty sure duane had 35 of them. There were a lot of little males. We ended up bringing to limits home that weighed 57 pounds I will post pics latter I am posting this on my phone. Internet still down at shop. If you see us down there tonight feel free to say hi we are the ones in funny looking boat that is red and white with oars. Good luck and be safe out there. Michael
