  1. Great fish glad to see a guide with a camera that works.(LOL) Photo shop the red eyes next time you look very evil. Yes we have had the same thing happen I would think that it might have to with the do's, and the do's look fine. You know how the fish act in the fall. Not sure why they are acting that way now.
  2. Well stated Terry we all have to stick up for each other. lbt It's only fishing it's not like the world revolves around it so give the man a break and quit being a jerk. Leonard is trying to make an honest living and I here he is doing a great job. I had a man bad mouthing my shop and he had never been in here to visit me or get to know me. I went to his place of employment down the road here and had a discussion with him. He said that he had some bad things happen between him and the previous owner. I told him to give me a chance he did and now he is one of my best customers. I guess what I'm saying is that no one is perfect and give the man a break and let him try to make an honest living. Michael
  3. Amen, I wish I could have been there I might go tonight Terry you wnat to rid edown with me. A little ACDC Michael
  4. Looks great, Wish you all the luck in the world. Michael
  5. Back down in the main part of the lake. Where the water is deep and cool.
  6. I did not fish I did however make a few cast and when I say a few cast Maybe 20 cast or less and had one fish. Michael
  7. I always wear spikes there is no rhyme or reason why I do, I just do. I am not an Orivis dealer but the waders that you are referring to ARe not Goretex they are a Quaderlam material yes it is breathable yet it is not as durable or a breathable as the Goretex. the Simms L2 waders are gortex 2 layer upper and 3 layer lower. Both have a lifetime warranty on them. Yes I do sell Simms and yes I do recommend them However with that said I was wearing Simms goretex waders long be for I bought the shop. They last are extremely durable and you will have the best luck staying dry in them because of the better breathable they have. I have a good Friend that works for goretex and he says to find out the quality of a wader is get something wet put your waders on and you will actually dry off in the wader because it is pulling the moisture out. I not for sure what the boots a like but I do sell both Simms and Chota the Chota boot is my number one selling boot. It has the widest toe box on the market it also has the quick lace system. It is the most comfortable boot out on the market and that is coming from my customers that I have switched over to the chota. Michael
  8. I had perch jerker out last night and it was his first time at night. He ended up with 12 fish started at 11 and finished about 3. Nothing to big caught them all on a pine squirrel and mohair leech's varied the speed of the strip from very fast to very slow. Jim it was nice to meet you next time you come down we will do it again. Michael
  9. I will not be able to make it down tonight 5 nights in a row she says no. Going to the Bellamy Brothers concert. I would bring the 5 wt. It will be sufficient for this time of year. The only time e a cast a heavy rod is during the fall. Put 3x or 2x leader and tippet, or you can use straight 8-10lb line. Michael
  10. Must be an echo
  11. Got down there at about 11 they had just shut the water off I had the place to my self. Fished untill 2am pretty slow I maybe had 10 fish. Thats It. Oh when I was leaving I did talk to a older man that was going by himself he had just got there and seem to be very informed of the whole night fishing gig. He said that he comes down a lot and fishes all by himself. he said that he his brother used to come with him but he died a couple of years back and he has no desire to fish with any one eles. Just hearing him say that made me a little teary eye. We stood there and talked for a long time and he said that he gets on the forum and really enjoys reading most of the fishing reports. He loves how informative that they are and wanted to tell everyone thanks for the info that is posted. I did manage a sneak peak into his fly box looked like he was going only for big fish. A lot of sculpins and huge leechs. Michael
  12. I was told that the outdoor section was going to be discontinued, they will still cover the outdoors in the life section but it will only be 1-2 pages. I was also told way back when I bought the store from Jack that the Thursday paper was the number one day. Yes topping Sunday they attributed it to the outdoor section. Not sure why they are making this move.
  13. Nice fish. I love the way you captured the blue on its cheek.
  14. Eric and I were able to get down and fish last night with a friend from Canton, Ga. We started at 11 and fished until 3:30am. We started down in the big hole with the water falling the water level when we started was 704. The bite was pretty good but we had to pretty much not move the fly just let it swing. I have been tying up some new wet flies that a Friend showed me and I thought that thy might work at night. The first thing I thought when he showed me the fly was it would be a great fly with one unit on but he said he had been catching fish on it most any time. I came to the shop and tied several up in various colors and so did Eric, but here I go again black and purple seem to be my two best colors. I would like to think that the fish do not watch the color but I guess they do. I have tried a few other colors black/chartreuse, white/orange, black/yellow. the two that work the best are the black/blue, purple/red. I fished them for the first time with my wife on Saturday and caught a few fish but last night it was on with the new but old fly. New to me but old to the world of fly fishing. We fished our way up out of the big hole to the cable and had one nice Rainbow and one nice Brown both would go about 18 inches. So were up by the cable working our way out and I keep thinking to myself we should be able to see Eric but no little Eric where was he did he get eaten by the giant squid or what. So I yelled, hey Eric and he answered from the bank sounded like I woke him up yes that is right he was on the bank not fishing but sleeping. All in all the bite was pretty slow you had to work the fly real slow and half the time not even move the fly. Between the 3 of us even though Eric did not fish half the night I would say that we had 45-50 fish between the 3 of us. Brad is addicted to the Mohair leech he fished a blood red and black most of the night. I continued to fish the wet fly black and purple were my to best colors. Michael
  15. I tryed to expalin to him that I thought the speed limit was 45 and he actually said well looks like you been fishing. I thought that might be the way out then he said well let me make it the best trip ever with a ticket. Sit tight I'll be right back. I laughed and said yea no problem.
  16. Yep you probably did my wife was down as well, The fishing was the same for both of us just about every cast you would get a bite. There was a point toward the end of the night that we were all standing there talking and I cant be in the water and not fish so I did. while we stood there everyone would duck when I cast few strips fish on. The only bad thing they Finally caught up to me 50 in a 35 and of places on the strip. yes that is right 76. We could only laugh because of all places that you could speed.
  17. Where do you get that stuff you had me crying that was very funny. I have to agree with what Leonard has said about fishing down below I have fished a lot down below. I can remember the first time I fished down by KOA it was about 10 years ago and I told My dad that I would never go up above any more. However I do find myself up above when it is not crowded. If I pull into the parking lot and it is packed I just turn back around and go down stream. Koa and Point Royal are awesome. lbt, I only fish at night for fun I might have a friendly competition with my friends but thats it. I consider everyone down there that fishes at night a good fisherman because it takes some skill to catch fish at night no matter if you are standing in the outlet nymphing or stripping a streamer real slow. I have seen just about everything under the sun happen down there at night and I just chalk it up to 1 or two things 1)they have no morals and ethics.2) they are just kids and have never been taught any different. When I say that I have seen it I mean over the past 15 years I have see everything here are few examples fishing with worms, power bait, cut shad, people fishing way up above the cable, people spot lighting fish to catch them, and so on to many violations to list. I have to say to my self why do I have to have a competition to prove who the best fisherman is. I'm sure there are people out there that have to be spoon fed then pass the information around freely like it is there own idea and that probably makes them feel good about their self. I for one am not that way and I am sure that no one is that way either that fishes down there at night or day a least I would hope so. Most of the stuff that I know about night fishing I have taught myself or payed close attention in the parking lot when people are talking about how they fish, try there method and it may work. I will always give credit when credit is do and I would hope that other people would do the same with out making a competition out of it. Sorry I got on my soap box but what I'm trying to say is that everyone that night fishes is probably a pretty good fisherman. There is no reason to pull a couple of guys out of the crowd and try and make them mortal enemy's with a stupid competition. Michael There
  18. great fish caught a few on the old pine squirrel aswell last night a fly thats hard to beat down in that area.
  19. What a night, I think that the word must have been out to fish on Friday night because it looked like a Christmas tree in some of the areas with everyones different colored lights. After the seminar got over they ran the water until about 11:30, after they shut the water off we started down by the point and had about 20 between the three of us . We then met up with Duane and his group and switched spots and we got to fish the narrows and we had about 10 between the there of us nothing of real size avg fish was about 14-15 inches. We then moved up to the cable and it was on, there were a couple of guys in the group that had a fish every cast for a while. We fished from 12-4am and the bite was very good. We were catching most of the fish on various colors of mohair leech's some used purple all night one guy used a white leech and the others used a black Mohair. The water took a long time to fall last night when we left at 4 the water was still 3 tenths high. Not a problem for fishing just something that I noted. They must not have been letting water out down at power site. I could be wrong. Just my guess it has been falling like a rock here recently but last night it was very slow to go down.
  20. Thank you to all who attended the seminar, I hope that you learned a few things about night fishing at Taney. For the guys that stayed for the on the water all I have to say is who what a night. We bounced from hole to hole and I think that everyone caught a fish in every hole. I hope that all enjoyed the on the water part. There was a one point when we up at the cable and everyone that was in Duane's and mine group had a fish on including Duane and myself. Six fish on at once. It was a great moment in the night fishing seminar. Watch for part two in about a month. I would like to thank everyone that was involved Eric Strader, Duane Dotty, Gary Kyle, and Jeremy Hunt. Michael
  21. I was not planing on serving any food or drinks if you want to bring something then feel free to do so.
  22. lbt, Not sure which part you are talking about but the first seminar will last about 1.5-2hours. The second will happen when the water is shut off and will last a couple of hours. I hope to see everyone down there. Michael
  23. Don't forget to mark this on your calender. They have been shutting the water a little earlier than midnight so I hope they continue with the trend. Things to remember to bring Headlamp, waders, boots and some warm clothes like a light fleece jacket and pants. I have had several people ask about the wt of rods to bring a 5or a 6wt is great especially for this time of year. 2x and 3x leaders or 8-10 straight mono will work. Hope to see everyone Friday night at 7pm #2 Outlet pavilion. Michael
  24. Dan it was great to me you as well. Like everyone else said you can join into the group anytime. If we are moving just say hay can I tag along and strip too. we don't talk that much but wee sure do have fun in the parking lot. then when on the water it is all what Terry said. Did your heart slow down after you changed your under ware Terry. You never know where we might be(LOL) We ended the night all the way down in front of KOA not sure how many fish we all had but I know I had 21 and Randy had 28. It was pretty slow.
  25. No not really, I did have a couple but we ended playing pitch untill 1am. I can fish all night and it does not effect me but one long night of cards effects me a lot. Thanks for the b-day wish Rusty. Michael
