  1. Thats below the map! Is he discontinuing them?
  2. Terry yes he does and for the reason of it keeps the materials in place. Dave has written many books and has several DVDs out on the market. I think he has the tying mastered. If you think that it might weaken the temper on a hook you can always re temper the hook heat up and plunge it in the cold quickly. In the event of rusting the glue will keep the hook from rusting. Dave also explains all of this in his 4 part DVD series.
  3. Everyone has great Ideas And they all work, I will add one comment that I learned from Dave Whitlock if you will rough the hook shank up it will not allow anything to rotate.
  4. Turkey hunting was great, it took a couple of days to make those big toms jealous of our decoys be for they would come in. So with that said on the 3rd day we shot 7 birds, every outdoor writer that we had in town killed a bird. One of the writers that I had a privilege to hunt with is a very avid fly fisherman and you all probably know him his name is Jim Cisada from North Carolina. I'm pretty sure we talked more about fly fishing than we did turkey hunting.
  5. Hello All Guess who is back in town. I had a great trip and caught a lot of fish but not the fish I wanted I really had my heart set on a Tarpon. Woodchuck, I agree with the gift cards and fully understand but before you do anything give a call at the shop. 417-889-6548 please call me. I think that Sage Launch is a great a rod I think that the 6wt is a great all around rod for what you want to do there is however one rod you might want to look at. It is the Scott V2 and is in the same price range. I love both Scott rods and Sage rods and I fish them both I do however use my Scott over the Sage every time I go. On to the lines I will say this, that the line will break it or make it for you. You really do get what you pay for. I have seen the mass produced fly lines that sell for 20 bucks say that there a 4wt and actually weigh out to be a 6wt. A $20 fly line will work but if it is performance and life that you are looking for I would say RIO first then S/A. They test every line that comes of the line and they make sure it will test to the performance level that it supposed to. I always say I will let you buy any rod and reel but when it comes to fly lines I will say spend the money and get the best. I have said in the pat I run my fly lines through the gauntlet so that I can make sure they will last for you. I fish over 200 days a year because it is my job to stay informed so that when my customers come in and they are going on a trip of a lifetime, I can make sure that is a trip of a lifetime and not a disaster of a life time. I not trying to be big headed but that is why the mom&pop fly shop will always be around. It is because we have been on those trips that people dream of and know what it means to you when you catch the Big Salmon or the Big Tarpon or just when you take you kids fishing for the first time and they bring that bluegill or stocker trout in. We are not just collecting a paycheck on Friday and will tell you anything because you are cutting into our lunch break. Not to step on any toes you all know how close our fly shop is to BP and you should some of the stories we get from people and I will be the first owner of a fly shop to say that may get stories on us too. Enough of being on my soap box. I really enjoy talking to each and everyone of you that come in here and with out you guys the local mom&pop shops would not exist. That goes for every fly shop around the state parks and down at Branson. Michael

  7. The way I understand and please correct me if I'm wrong any concrete boat ramp on a corp lake is supposed to be public no matter it's location.
  8. Belive it or not big clousers. Some of them were snaged because they were stacked in there so tight but I would say that 80% had the fly in there mouth. I love catching big carp on the fly it just like catching redfish on the fly. If you have never done it you shuold go out and find some Stockton is a great place to fish for carp. In the summer you can find them in the back of a lot of coves. Michael
  9. Sac river at Morrisville, Taylor bridge all the way up the old railroad bridge. We fish it at night becuase of the crowds during the run and we can avg.30-45 fish/night in that area. Michael
  10. I got 12 in the other day and none of them were formated I had to send them all back. They said this has been a major issue with these dvds. Glad to here one actually worked may I borrow and burn it(LOL). Michael
  11. yes with the rain they are everywhere. I fish up there every night on the fly and have been catching them all the way up to the railroad bridge. It's no secret everyones knows now. grey and white and chartreuse and white clousers. When the water goes back down they will be even hotter. You should check the water level be for you go the USG's site said they have about 1300 Cfs that is pretty high if you are going to be wading or fishing off the bank. I have not seen it today but I would say that is looks a lot like chocolate milk. Michael
  12. We fished yesterday the CFS was about 4500 when we started as we fished I could start seeing evidence of the water coming up. We got off the water at about 5. Boated all the way up to I-44 and only had 5 whites. 200 gr sink tip and a big chartreuse clouser. We then started to make our way down to the Hwy 10 bridge and started to see a lot of carp and spoonbills, we decided that looked fun so we stop and started to catch catch carp on the fly. It was a blast I had probably 30 to 40 carp on and got about half of them in. With the biggest one about 12lbs. I looked this morning on the USG's site and it said that the Spring river was at 16 feet and running about 4500 Cfs could someone verify that for me. We have our club outing that was supposed to go to Tulsa and the Spring river. I would appreciate it usually the USG's site is right on. Michael
  13. I'm glad that everybody had a good time, we will be having a crappie on the fly here at the shop soon. Michael
  14. I hope that everyone has planed on coming to the seminar should be another good one. Michael
  15. have had to change the date of the Backcountry Outfitters' White Bass Seminar, one of the premier fly tyers had something that they could not reschedual. The new date will be Thursday, March 22. It will still be here at the shop in the Fremont Shopping Center at 7pm. The topics covered will be: * Type of gear rods and lines * Types of flies * Places to fish * How to read the water, including * ideal water conditions, temperature, water depth and clarity. At the conclusion of the discussion, there will be tying demonstrations of our favorite and successful patterns. Terry Tanner will be one of our featured presenters and tyers; he may even let the cat out of the bag on some of his secrets. If you are not familar with Terry, he is one of a few legendary fly tiers in Southwest Missouri and is a tying regular at the SOC Conclave in Mountain Home. He also has a video out that walks you through step by step of his patterns. Terry is well versed in several different patterns for white bass that just might improve your game. Jim Murphy will also be tying some of his favorite white bass flies. Jim has also been tying for many years. He is well accomplished with tying here at the local level, as well as tied in past National Conclaves in Idaho Falls and West Yellowstone. Jim was even on Fly Fish TV, the Nation Conclave Special, in 2005. One of Jim's most recent accomplishments is becoming a fly innovator/designer for Rainy's Flies, in Logan Utah. A couple of his warm water flies are being produced and sold all over the world by Rainy's. I hope that everyone will be able to make this special event. I'm especially looking forward to this years' White Bass season, now that our area lakes have some water. At the conclussion of the seminar, Backcountry Outfitters will be giving away 2 Rio fly lines and a fly box with two dozen flies in it, especially for white bass fishing. 16. Went over to the Spring river on Wednesday and had a great day, Rob and I did not get over there untill about 10:30. We then boated up stream to I-44, all I have to is whoa a lot of boats had to be at least 50 trailers at the hwy 10 bridge. I boated up stream to a really good shoal abot 1 mile from I-44. We then got our waders on and started to wade around the shoal. We had to be back to Springfield by 7pm so we fished untill 4pm from 11-4 I had over 60 whites. I was using a 150 gr sink tip and clousers it did not matter what size or color. Michael
  17. This is the time of year I will get in trouble with the wife. We only live 20 min. from the little sac. how ever I will be down on the Spring on Wednesday. Michael
  18. I have been up there all week and it has been good. Most of the water temps have been in the mid 50's. It seems the fishing has been picking up toward the afternoon and evening. Grey/white, Chartreuse/white, those have been my most productive. I have had no need for a wet line every thing I have been catching is on a dry line with a extra long leaders. 12-14 feet. The last couple of days have been the most productive with us catching over 60 fish/day. I have only caught a few Walleye. With the warmer days and the rain that is supposed to be here on Thursday it should only get better. Michael
  19. not really but I will post a report when I get back.
  20. The dubbing that is used is not antron though it will work. What they use is sparkle yarn cut and ground to make dubbing. I have been out fishing and have had to come back to reality on today if you have any trouble getting a whole pine squirrel skin I keep in stock every color they make. If you want you can go to my website and order. www.backcountryoutfitters.org I hope this info helps out. Michael;
  21. I had a water temp at the steel bridge of 50
  22. Yes and I know where you can buy them, I had a few given to me by the owner of the company and I took them down to my favorite Steelhead river, Taneycomo.(LOL). I caught quite a few fish I think that it was because they had never seen this befor. Very easy fly to tie.
