If the fly tiers on this site wish to have a contest I think that it would be great. I feel that it would be just like the fly tying contest that happen with Southern Council Federation. I do belive that the pattern was a Grey Ghost. So I say have at, and good luck. I feel that any good fly tier can match to the tee any fly. It's just like the Mohair Leech I did not come up with pattern but I do sale it in my shop. But I do always give credit where credit is do and the person that showed me the pattern a few years back now works for me MR.Jim Murphy. I also asked him before we started saleing them in shop.

It might work for a while never tried it but I don't think that it would get hard like ZAP-A-GAP. I will have to tie a few knots on the end of a flyline on Friday and let you know how it works. Michael

Hello All Well I have finally gotten back down to Taney at night have been away for a while just gets to busy here at the shop and with the family which is the most important thing, like they business before pleasure. Last night was great started out slow but ended with a bang. John and Joey it was great to meet you if you ever want to get together and fish or hunt just let me know. There was huge cold front that came through and on the back side was rain and thunder. I love to fish in the rain but hate the lighting we had to quit 3 times because of the lighting. And there was 1 delay due to them running the water for about 1 hour. Kim and I started down in the big hole and picked a few up on a white mylar zonker nothing of real size but I would say we had 4-5 fish right off to the start of the night. first break. We would take off and start fishing again in the rebar and picked up 4-5 fish on a olive sculpin. Had one brown that would go 17-18 inches. Time for second break. Kim and I would go up to the parking lot and a buddy was there and ready to fish with us so we went up to the old boat ramp and would finish the night there. There was quite a bit of rain comming down by this time and was creating some extremely stained water. That is just what we needed I tied a purple egg sucking leech on for Kim and I tied a Black egg sucking leech on my own line and it was on. Just about every cast we were getting hit and or hooking up. I think that we got up to that area around 12 and quit around 2am. We had several Browns that would go 18-19 inches and a few small rainbows. In that area I would say that we caught between the 2 of us 20 fish. That's why I always will be found in rain at night on Taney. I can't wait untill I get back from Helana Montana next Saturday I might get in trouble with my wife but I may just get of the plane and head straight down. I think that the Browns that are up already are on the down hill side of the spawn and will be hungry when I get back in town. I did see sevral fish last night that were in the 30 inch class. I wish everyone the best of luck next week. Michael

I just wanted to remind everyone that the Two Fly for the Y tournament is going to happen on this Saturday 9-4. You can fish any way that you want as long as your flyfishing.(LOL). What I mean is if you want to wade or you can fish out of a boat. Remember you are fishing for 2 Sage VT2 fly rods and 2 Abel trout reels $1300 Value. After the tournament we will go the Golden Coral for dinner and awards and Draw Prizes. Registration will begin at 6:30am and the contestant meeting will be at 8:30am at the Paviliion in the parking lot. You will need to have your four flies per team turned in by that time we are goping to put the flies in a nice box and draw for it after the event.I hope to see everyone there. If you have any questions just let me know. Michael

Zap -a-gap will ruin the coating on the out side of the fly line and it will also make it as hard as a rock. You will want to use somthing that is soft and pliable like pliobond it's like a rubber cement should be able to get at any flyshop. Michael

Anglers and Achers have them. Talk with Chuck or Lynn

I have to agree with motroutbum and jim both pair are very nice. The only thing that I do not like about the fleece is that when it's gets wet you lose your warmth. With the wool it still will hold about 60% of it heating. Michael

Steve Stennit and I fished from the Dam to White hole on Friday the 29 and it was great. Could not have had a better weather day it was mostly cloudy little wind and a high of 72. They ran 1 unit all day which I feel made the fishing perfect. Steve and I started out up by the dam and we were fishing #20 Tan, Black midges in the slower water and picked up quite a few fish mostly Bows Steve had a couple that would push on the 18-19 inch door. About 10:30 we stared down stream and I started to fish streamers on a 150 gr sink tip, and it was on. I found what they wanted a black wooly bugger in size 10. Caught a lot of fish most of them would range from 12-16 inches but were real nice and healthy. As we neared White Hole is where the biggest fish of the day would come, I caught a real nice and fat Brown that would measure 24" that was around 6 that night. Did not keep count but I bet between Steve and I we caught 65-70 fish. We caught fish on Midges tan, black, daves hopper#10 and Streamer yellow/brown, black, olive/brown. Michael

That is FUNNY I think that the Turkey is well enough to have thier own spot. They are considered upland birds since they do not migrate just like Terry said. Hey Phil if you would like me to help on the Turkey Thread just let me know. I'm on Knight&Hales prostaff and know Quite a few people that might get on board with it. NOT THAT MEANS ANYTHING JUST GOT LUCKY ONE DAY. Michael

Snaged in outlet 3 I will not have a booth down there this year. I plan on being there sometime on Saturday. I plan on being at the shop most of the time. I feel that the line that is closest to The GPX is the Rio Grand. I also agree that the fly line is one of many parts to fly fishing. But I will maintain that it is the most important part. If you have a certain rod it may cast better with a diffrent line be the Cv2 or Sa or Rio who knows only you know and you can make that determination. I will probally not be the first to say this but, Rods will cast diffrent with diffrent lines. You need to find one that suits you and you casting style, and the action of your rod. Michael

I belive that you get what you pay for and that there are quite a few flylines out there and there are some things one most consider befor buying a fly line. What and where am I going to fish, What is the type of fly and set up and I'm going to use. The last thing on your mind should be the price Because I would not want to have a trip of my life and Have the fly line screw up or break and lose the fish of a life time. I have used quite a few diffrent fly lines out there and I would say the way I fish that Rio and SA are my fav. I will do nothing to a fly line and what I mean By that is never claen never wax. I will walk on it I will get it muddy I basically treat my flylines like a red headed step child No offense. I want the fly line to show me how long they will last so I can look you in the eye and say this line will last forever to a certain point. I would like to think that if you take care of fly line that it would last 4-6 years. My Favorite fly line is Rio they are the best in my opinion they have the super floatant tech which means that the Rio is the higest flaoting fly line on the market. Most flylines will have a specific gravity of .9 Rio will have a sg of .7-.79 depending on the line. The also have the agent x which is a fly line coating which makes them the smoothest fly line made easier to cast slides through your guides easier. There are 4 rio fly lines that I love the best they are the Grand, Nymph, Clouser, and the Wind Cutter. The clouser and the Nymph are both made to cast big fly and set ups. The clouser I will use for Bass and big flies at Taney. I like the Nymph beacuse the last 6 inches is bright orange, you do not need a indicator with that line. The Grand I use for my dry flies and the windcutter is their version of the trangle taper. Those line are fresh water, Rio has a complet line of Salt water fly lines. One more item that I like about the Rio is the LOOP from the factory keeps the line sealed and keeps the tip floating. I hope that did not bore any of you. Michael

I would be shocked if they did not run the water. At night when they run one or even two units I will fish Outlet 1 that seems to be the most productive way. It comes back far enough that you can stand out of the current and fish. I will fish the streamers out in the current and strip back to me. You will need to have a sink tip 150gr works the best for me. I love the wooly sclupin when they are running the water. Come by and I will show you waht they are. Like I have said in the past it most be contracted power that they have already sold. Michael

I got lucky I guess, fished from 10:00 am til 4:30ish and had 17 fish. Largest was approx. 20", with most in the 14" to 16" range. Caught all of my fish on a size 14 Bomber, using 5X tippet. I did have one advantage, because I fished from my boat. My most productive areas were the Big Hole, accross from the hatchery boat ramp, and below "The Place" formerly known as KOA. These areas were also the ones were I had seen the largest numbers of fish, above Point Royale. I did not see any monster fish, but I did see a good number of Browns in the 24" to 26" range, as well as several Rainbows in that size class. jim

It sucks when the pressure is on to catch a brown for a story. But if you try hard enough it could happen. I fished with Kenny Kieser a couple of weeks ago for a brown trout story for the Kansas City Paper and I just got lucky and caught a nice brown on my second cast It was the only brown I caught all night. Pressure thats why I quit the bass fishing thing. Good Luck I got the dubbing all mixed up and on the wall Phil Give me a call and let me know which colors and how many you want. Michael
