  1. Steve, Thanks for the good word, I'm glad that the night fishing was good and worked out. I have talked to my wife and I think that we are going to have night fishing seminar sometime in August. Should be a lot of fun, I hope that everyone will be able to come. Again I'm glad that everything worked out. Michael
  2. jdavis I would have to say that the TFO rods are good I think the TICR or the professional series rod would be a good choice. For what you said you wanted to do a 7wt would be in your best intrest. I would also look at the Scott A2 I think for the money it is the best 7 wt out on the market. It retails for 285 but I think the castabilty of the rod blows all other manufactuers out of the water. Plus they are made in the states. As for the line I would recomend the Rio Clouser or the Rio Nymph lines they both have a heavy haed and are made to cast big ugly flies as they call them. They both retail for 60 bucks. The thing that sets Rio apart from evryone eles is that they come with pre-made loops in the lines. Which is great because now you do not have to tie a loop or put one of those braided loops on the end of your flylline makes them easier to cast. I hope this will help Michael
  3. I have the rio shock gum in my store we are a lot closer. If you live in springfiled, if you live in Branson you might check with River run or Angler and Achery, I'm not sure if Phil has rio or not. The shock gum sells for 3.95. My number at the store is 417-889-6548 Michael
  4. who is salad shooter. HA/HA
  5. Phil I will tell them about the forum and see if they would interested in posting in the photo side. The fishing has picked up since they have been running water most nights they have they water off 9-10pm. My thoughts is that depending on how many units they run it can take any where form 45min to 2 hours. So most of the time your looking till 10:30-12:00 before the fishing will get good. Not to say that you can't step out there right when they turn the water off and catch fish because I'm sure we can. It's kind of funny but it seems just about every night the fishing is really good between 12-3am then they quit. We always joke that it must be bed time for the fish. I'm not going to be around this weekend we are going to KC for the the 4th, I hope that everyone has a good 4th and I hope that you all will catch a big one. Michael
  6. Just let me know
  7. more to the post from befor I am a frim beliver you must remain mobile when fishing at night and what I mean by that is don't be afraid of moving ether upstream or down. One would like to think that once you have fished a hole that would be it. But you might be surprised by what would happen if you went back to same hole that you already fished earlier. I have seen it down there when the fishing sucks and you have been moving around go back to some holes that you have already hit and it turns out to be a good night. A person can cover a lot of ground down there at night because sometimes you will be the only down there. every couple cast move down a couple of steps. More on the retrives do not be afraid of trying off the wall flies you do not always have to be on the bottom to catch fish at night especailly in the summer. Big rodents tend to fall in the water and so do big bugs at night. In the summer I will fish a big mouse and big cicada pats. Great fly to skip along the top of the water. Those leechs will work somtimes at night with out any weight on them just stripping them through the top 6" of water. But you want to be sure that you are getting the fly in front of the fish. And what I mean by that is be sure to keep your line tight so that when the fish hits what ever you are casting to them your not ripping it out of thier mouth because if you do have slack in your line you must first tighten your line to set the hook. So mend your line just as would during the day. I know that this sounds complicated but belive me a little practice at night it will be second nature. If I could give you one peice of advice is that do not be afraid of throwing big flies nothing is to big a night especially in the fall. When you have that fly in the your vice it might look huge but big fly=big fish. Big fish did not big by eating scuds all of there life. That Pentax camara that I use I bought from Jerry form Lawrence Photo for around 300 great piece of equipment. I hope that helps out I know that some of this post repeats the first post but I got busy and lost my train of thought. Having loged abot 100 nights a year for over 10 years some years more some years less. I would have to say that is good avg. Any way what I'm saying is if there is any body out ther that wants to learn how to fish Taney at night I will teach you. And try and give to you the knowledge that I stuffed in my little pea sized brain. One thing that I have thought about doing is night fishing forum if there there would be any intrest. because then I could have a hands on with euipment and flies. Let me know if any of you would be intrested on doing that some night. I know there are few in Springfield and a few in Branson. So maybe we could come up with a location that would be in the middle. Or maybe we would do it down on Taney who knows just let me know if you are interested. Michael
  8. Greg, I'm glad the leech worked, as you all know I would rather night fish at Taney than any other time. I think that the presentation of the fly at night is the most important thing, it can make or break you at night. One thing that I love to do is change the presenation about every five min. until you start catching fish. I will sometimes strip slow and long slow and short fast and short fast and long or just let the fly drift down strem. There are nights when I will let the fly just sit on the bottom and wait for line to move down strem. Sometimes that will not work then I will start changing flies. I will cast a fly 10-15 times nothing I will change But at Night it seems that any shade of purple will work the best. The only times that I will cast the light colored flies is when the moon is 3/4 to full and is up. On the head lamp I use one that clips on to my hat that is very light weight and is blue in color. I try and avoid bright white lights at night because you will spook the fish. The only time that I turn my light on is to retie a fly and to retie tippet. I have been down there numerous times and get boxed in by people because I do not use a light very much. When I here them Comming I will turn it on for breif second then turn it off I do that a couple times. On the camara I have a water proof pentax the OPTIO 6.7 mp great camara for night you point and shoot. I pretty sure you have seen the pics form the camara. I will post more latter read the second post that I have made michael
  9. I'm done and sending them today Michael
  10. Then they have changed it back to there original deal. When I bought the store about 2 years ago that is when Orvis was having there leaking problems and that is when they were prorated. I'm glad to here that they have gone back to there original plan, because I know of quite a few guy's that had orivs that had the problem and they would not honor thier warnity. That's when I droped orvis from my store. I should have checked it out before I stated anything sorry for putting misinformation out . The other day I was in the actual Orvis store in Denver the one on 1st ave just north of the Cherry Creek Mall and they had Simms waders. They had the G3 the Classic Guide and the L2 I found it funny that the actual Orvis store where they only sell Orvis Merchandise would carry Simms. That has to say something not that I'm reading into anything. But that is why I only carry the Simms waders.
  11. Count me in I tie a brassie emerger thats works great during the day at Taney Best days to use this fly is when it's raining. Michael
  12. I would have to suggest Simms because of there warrinty no questions asked for a lifetime. Dollar for dollar they are the best waders. Orvis waders have had bad problems with leaking, and there warrinty is prorated anything over two years your out of luck. I have had my Simms waders for 9 years only one issue with leaking my fault, crossed a fence caused a few holes and they fixed them for 25 bucks. Great company to work with. I have all there waders in stock so stop by and check them out. I am an Albright dealer aswell. Michael
  13. My wife got me that camra for Christmas last year. It is so nice not to worry about the water or condensation from the fog. Great pics Michael
  14. I would have to say do what ever it takes to catch the fish. One suggestion take treble hooks off and put single barbless hooks on. The baits will still ride right in the water. Randy you should have said something we could have droped you off. Would have been a long walk from I-44 though. You know us no detours.HA/HA Michael
  15. Scott, Everyone has to start somewhere and they usually pick the outlets because of the high concentration of fish around them. Scuds and sowbugs are a great fly however with the number of scuds and sowbugs on the downward side if you chose to fish then make them large 12-14 in size and tan grey and olive in color. Put plenty of weight on them so they will sink fast and get to the bottom since that where they love to hang out on the rocks. If I could point you in the right direction I would have to say go east young man lot of fish. Two spots or maybe three Big hole, roking chair and KOA. Those are all down stream The big hole is where the rebar empties and the roking chair is where the big hole empties and the koa is in front of the old campground. There are a couple of recomended flies that I would suggest and I would use them religiously they are midges and sculpins and a few dries. The midges would be the zebra, ice cream cone, BWO ice breaker those are three midges that are great. The colors that I would recomend would be black, gray, tan, green and blue. The ice cream cone is red or tan with a white bead on top. One other fly that works great is the crakle back, Most people fish them dry but I don't. Cast them out there and strip them back with no indicator. The crakle backs that I like are the yellow and the olive in a size 12. Next are the sculpins those are bait fish that are all over in the trophy area any where from a size 8 to a size 2 will catch fish during the day. Tan and olives ones work the best. You will fish them the same way as the crackle back. Some other flies that will work are the san juan worm red and browns, eggs any color but peach works the best for me. This would not be compleat if I did not mention the Mohair Leech in a size 10-12 in solid colors like browns and olive will work really good. I hope that has helped you out, do not be afraid to ask any question there are no stupid questions when it comes to this subject. Fly fishing has two sides very confussing or very relaxing. And I dont care how long any one has fly fishied we all know there are days where you just want to give it all up and quit. So with that said good luck Michael
  16. Fishing at night is so dependent on what they with the water that day. If they run water the till dark like they do most of the time lets say 9-10 the fishing want be good untill about 11-12 because thats how long it will take the water to get all the way down. If they do not run water the fishing will be good right away. What I try and do is stick to dark pats on dark and cloudy nights when the moon is up and is bright I try and stick to the lighter colors. However with that said I seem to think that my best colors are shades of red. I can explain more if people want to learn why it works . Sorry it took me so long to respond I went to Tulsa yesterday to fish and ended up sitting in a huge rain storm that dumped about 3-4" of rain in about 1 hour. The river was rolling by the end of the storm. I think that is what they call it Flash Flooding. Michael
  17. I have been down there the last teo nights and it has been great. I think that I will go tonight. Three nights in a row might get a preidential veto if no veto I will be there. If the rain comes it will be awesome. Hope to see you down there. Sorry to everyone that fishes down there at night that love to meet and greet if I'm on the water I don't talk. Do not take it personal I have to put 100% concentration into what I'm doing or I will screw it up. I would lopve however to meet a all you. I will try to put a report on latter. Michael
  18. Don't worry about that when I turn the switch on the control panel on I look like a christmas tree HA/Ha. I would never go out on the water in a boat at night with out lights. Thanks for the thought thogh glad to know someone out there cares. Michael
  19. Well after the great Friday night I decided to go after it again but with the radar looking the way it did we left the boat at home. Rodney and I got down there at around 7 pm and talked to Rick and Jim and they both said that it had been pretty slow But I had a new 2 wt and wanted to break it it in the right way. We started fishing around 8 and the fish were midging so right out of the gate I put on a crackle back on and first cast caught a fish. Rodney would stack up 6 fish before I would catch another. I would then put a # 20 cream midge and that was the ticket before I would take a break to get night time rods ready I would catch about 7 fish nothing real big but a great time on the 2 wt. I looked at Rodney and its time to change our set up and start fishing at night. To make long story short I think that is the earliest that I have evere left Taney 12 am not a good night pretty slow and small fish. I think form abot 10 till the time we left I had 10-15 fish and they were small. There were several fish if I would combine there length I would of had 1 20 inch fish. I was fishing a zonker and the retrive was slow. Several were caught with the fly just sitting on the bottom. Several people were down there last night and I hope that it was better for them. I gusses that is why we call it fishing and not hooking. Good luck and and catch a big one today guys. Michael
  20. Phil, I was fishing the south bank and was trying to fish shallow to mod deep. I was using an intrmediate tip from RIO they call it the streamer tip and it seemed to be the ticket. I tryed a floating line and was getting nothing when I put the intrmideate tip on thats when it truned on. That is a pretty big streamer that I was using and weighted real heavy. I would have to say that I was catching fish any where from 1-7' of water. great night any time you want to go out at night with a boat I will take you I love fishing that way. When I was in my younger years that is how my dad and I would fish and it was great, glad that I can again fish that way. The nights with the fog are better for fishing you just have to take it slow and know your bearings or you will get lost not fun. Big lights that will punch through the fog are very helpfull if you do get turned around. I have a Sure Fire 500 lumen power which is great and I keep a 2 million candle power spot light in the boat. Michael
  21. Hello this is a computer generated message the number of units is 0 is that a great thing to here or what. I took my daughter to the Cardinals game last night so I did not start till late. I saw the sun come up over the lake what a sight. The fishing statrted out slow and few and far between strikes but it could have been the size of fly I was using a #2 zonker that is red and black. I started down by the point not really much going on then I decide that it was time to put the new john boat in that was the ticket. I started down by PR and fished down to the mouth of Fall creek It was awesome and I mean AWESOME I had several fish that were in the 16-18" range. The red and black zonker and my pine squirrel sculpin was the ticket. I would have to say that from the time I put the boat in to the time I quit I caught 45-50 fish I put the john boat in at 1:30 and fished untill 4:30-5:00 what a great night. I have been wanting to get a boat from Phil and do this because I knew that it would be great when I did it. Since Phil and I couldn't ever get togthere I bought one So if any one ever want's to get out on Taney after dark on a boat let me know.I would love the company. I need to get the store open and running for the day I hope that everyone has a good weekend and they catch a lot of fish. Michael
  22. As the owner of a fly shop here in Springfield I was worried about buying the fly shop from Jack because of BP just down the road. I get phone calls from the people that work there to see if we have something in stock and they actually send customers over if we do. The people that work there come over and do business with me because BP does not have what they want. I promise that the BP in BL will only make the mom and pops store money. I wish everyone with business down there good luck. Michael
  23. I will have to say that wolf triangle taper is a great line. However I will put Rio fly lines up against any other fly line. I do sell both in my store and have used both a lot and the Rio fly lines last the longest. You will not have to do any thing to the line plus with the agent x that they use in there fly lines make them the highest floating fly on the market. The density of water is one 1 so for an object to float on the water it has to have density less than 1. Most fly lines are .85-.90 and Rio's are a density of .6 which makes them the highest floating fly line on the market. which in turn will cause less drag on the water. I'm not sure by what you mean when you say the fly lines are made stiff for the water out west and and the salt water flats. Because most fly lines are designed for out west and every fly line company have lines designed for salt water wulf's is the bermuda fly line. Rio fly lines have there own triangle taper and it is called the wind cutter a great fly line. I belive that the reason that Rio fly lines have moved to the top in the last couple of years is the intergrated welded loop in the end of the fly line no more making the connectors or useing the prefab loops. With the loop already made from the factory you'r fly line will stay sealed and not wick water and turn into a nice sink tip within a years time.but having choices is what makes the world go around. I hope that answers your questions. best of luck.
  24. Hello Well I started alot earlier than I would ever do, but had nothing to do after I closed the shop. Rodeny and I got down to Taney at around 7:00 and decided to do some wet wading what a refreshing feeling when it is 95 out. We started down below number 2 and just up from the rebar hole it is so nice to step out and see the shufflers out and you start hammering the fish using dry flies, some day the shufflers will learn. Fished till dark and I had about 10-12 on a crakle back and a cream midge Rodney had about the same number. We went an ate then came back to find the parking lot alomost empty, I did not go to P.R. Just fished from the big hole up. Alot of things going on last night with the fish we caught them on just about everything that we threw at them. There was not a pat last night that they would set in on. Somtimes I would strip it slow somtimes I would burn it in and somtimes they would pick it up on the swing. I used my usual mohair in just about every color that man could think about but the two that worked best were a purple and a orange. When I got sick of swithcing flies all the time I would start to fish top water with a muddler and a mouse. The fish were rising and splashing the whole night and if you have never done that at night you should it is a hoot. That is a great way to fish on a full moon night it's just like useing a spook at night for bass. All in all we had a good night and even though the fishing was slow we still managed between the two of us to pick up around 45-50 fish. We did have several fish that would go between 15-17 inches both kinds browns and rainbows. It's not good when you get home and the wife is up worried about you because you said you would be home at 2:30 and I did not get home untill 4:45. I might be grounded for a while I feel a list coming down the pipe. Leonard next time I go down Lets fish together Did you use the purple that your dad picked up. talk to you guys latter hope you all have or had a good day on the water. Michael
  25. I'll be there maybe will run into each other I am going to try and beat the corwd and start down at P.R. . Good luck Michael
