Brian, I would like thank you for the great program that you presented at our meeting on Thursday night. I would like to know a little bit more about Bryant Creek. If you could tell me more on the Walleye and Whites down there that would be great. Michael

Back in the day that the city of Paola owned the lake it cost 150 bucks a year to put my bass boat on the lake. I'm glad to know that you do not have to have a special permit anymore.
-
That looked like that was fun, those are some nice Hybirds. I have fished the lake alot. Miola was one of those lake that I just stumbled on to. My wife and I used to live in Paola over buy the Price Chopper. Infact I wished that we still owned the house so I could buy a permit to fish the lake. I think that the only thing that I benfitted the most with living there was that I bought my resident lifetime permit for hunting and fishing. I do not miss the big supper cells that would come across the great state of Kansas. I do not know, but if you know Kenny and Marylyn New tell them that Michael and Kristina Kyle said Hi. Michael

I went down to Galena today with the wife and new baby I did not do any fishing but did alot of looking. I went down to Ashtercain bottoms and its shallow. We then went to McCords Bend the water looks like it is on the rise from the recent rains however the water is only about 2.5-3.0' deep south of the boat ramp it is only about 10' wide. We then went up to talk to Gary Benham but he and his wife was not home so we went on down to Blunks down by the boat ramp it looked like there was enough water however I did not waid out 3-8' deep. As we worked up the river down from Gary's house it got very shallow. I really think that the white bass will come up but how far is the question. I think that Ashtercain will be the hot spot this year. Who knows only time will tell, with the rains that are falling here this past week it might make a huge diffrence and make it a great year. Good luck to the snaggers and I hope you get a huge Spoonbill.

Phil, Good luck with the White Bass seminar, I think that is a great idea. I would be there but it is on Tuesday I'm the only one in shop on those days. I know that this does not pertain to this subject but I went to Galena today did not fish but very shallow, should make White bass this year very interesting. Good thing I bought a boat. I think that if we do not get any rain that the Bridge Port ramp will be very busy.

This was not Phils idea this was mine if you would like to help I could sure use the input. I'm pretty sure that we will have one late in the summer or early fall. We are also having our 2nd Spring Fling on April 22 all day, Lots of door prizes, 1 Sage Rod, 1 Scott rod a Lamson reel Merchandice from Fish Pond and Rio. Plus Davy Wotton will be here for the event. He will be tying his tradtional wet flies and talking about how to fish them. Maybe you can make it, the day will be loaded with fun. Oh yea just like last year everyone will be able to cast every rod that is in the shop in the casting pond that will be in the parking lot. Michael

I will be there I have two guide trips next week. I will be in the shop Moday if the good lord a willen and the creeks don't rise. Michael

I'm not sure how the one fly has been done but the one I have fished before in other location is where you get one fly if you loose the fly your done. I could be wrong if that is the way Phil has done it. I think that we are going to get a lot of interest so I think that we will have one. I will say this that it will take a lot of time and people to make sure that it goes right. I don't know if I could win against you guys or not sounds like you are on the water all the time. With the shop and the new baby I have no time to fish.
-
If I get enough intrest I will put one on, if any of you know and have been to any of the events that I have put on here at the shop you know that it will not be done half assed. I would have a preregister, and if you wanted to regester at the ramp it would cost you more. I would like to see about 15 teams step up to the plate and say they are in. If people would not mind I would fish it myself, but I have fished several tournaments where the person that put it on fishes the thing and it has caused some people to get upset. I will say this, that with the new baby and the events that are going to take place at my shop in the near future it would be June befor I would have time to put it on.

Randall, We are 2 miles west on Battlefield We are in the Fremont shopping center, on the south side of the road. That is the same shopping center that the Heritage Cafeteria is in.

Randall, I understand the frustration that will come to the novice when it comes to night fly fishing. I have guided many people that are in the same boat that you are in. And the result is great becuase you will listen more than the other person will. I would be willing to help you any manner that you would need help. I have got some great flies that will produce quite a few fish at night. You can contact me at the shop or through this forum. I would still bring both kinds of fishing tackle though just in case. But I think if you have someone work with you down there that it will be a plesant experence. Michael

I would like to think that this style of a tournament or the one fly tournament would be a big hit. I would be willing to help alot with the tournament. I think that a 100% pay back and we could get alot of neat draw prizes. As in rods reels waders chestpacks fly lines. Phil I think that if you and I worked on this together that it would be a huge event. let me know if you have intrest. Michael

I would like to see a new way that the Trout Tournament is put on, not that the way Phil does it is wrong. I would like to have a tournament ran where it was catch and release. I have watched national flyfishing tournaments on tv and thats how they do it. It is still a two man event and one offical goes with them. They have 8 hours and each man may only fish 4 hours. They do not have to fish the 4 hours all at once it may be broken up throughout the day. At the time they catch a fish the team must decide if they want to keep the fish or not. If they decide to keep the fish it is weighed and measured and one pic taken. The team is only allowed to keep records of so many fish. Once the limit of fish is reached on paper then the team is done fishing. The team can not keep records of every fish and cull off the paper, if they count the first four fish then they are done. I would like everyones feed back on this and maybe in the future if we have enough intrest we might do one sounds fun. Michael

Well I would have to say that there are some very strong opinions on this matter. I think that if everyone will just work together that we will all get along and and everyone can catch fish. Taneycomo is such a great fishery that has been developed over the years and I would have to say that I think that the new world record brown will come soon. I hope that someone off the fourm catches the big fish. This sounds stupid as a post but I'm really board today. Has given me time to come up with a new topic. So I hope that we can get as much feedback as this one.

Hey Greg Hope the fishing was good Sunday and hope that you caught a big fish. I would have to say that during the day down at Taneycomo I love the Scott G series. I love the medium action of this rod. I have it in 4wt and 6wt. depending on what type of fishing I plan on doing that day, for the midges and dry flies I like the 4wt. For all other I like the 6wt as in leechs and any of the bigger streamers I like to cast. The Scott G-series is discontinued but they have a new rod it is called the G2 and it is basicaly built on the same blank there are just a few cosmetic diffs. For night time I love Scott Heli-ply when the big fish move up I use the 888 8'8" for 8wt, with that rod you can handle any fly or any fish. When the big fish move out for night I will cast the S3 in a 5wt or 6wt. As you know I'm a Scott rod man I think that they make the best rod for the money. They also have the Scott hollow ferrule system which matches all sections and creates a continuous taper for the rod. The hollow internal ferrule system has been proven to be the strongest system. If you want to cast them stop by and I will let you cast them. Michael

Highway 65 bridge over Taneycomo
Micheal Kyle replied to Phil Lilley's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
Looks like they are going to put a lock-n-dam in for the barge traffic. That so that they can maintain a higher water level at the Branson Landing. HA/Ha/HA I thought that would give people a good laugh Looks like you had a good day Bass fishing, we who fish down there alot know that is Taneycomo best kept secret Michael -
Phil sounds like you guys had a blast. It is so much fun to catch midging fish Michael

I have to say that evryeone has the right to be on the water, I would have to say that there is a simple solution to the problem. If my memory serves me right, there is a cable that is 760' below the dam which I do belive that there is no fishing above if you are caught you are given a ticket. Now I hope that everyones knows that the concern that I have is safty for everyone boat and waders. So with that said I say take a cable and strech it across form the boat ramp to the other side no boats up past the cable no questions. I think that the distance from the the dam to the boat ramp is about 3/4 of a mile. This is would be the same as it is at several other dams tailwaters. As it is as Bagnel, Pomme de Terre, and Truman Dams they do not allow boats up there for saftey reasons it does not matter if the the water is running or not.
-
Phil, We are talking about no boats up past the boat ramp only when the water is not runing. When the water is on would be 2 generators or more boats can come up above the boat ramp. I would think that would something to consider by the corp, and or the water patrol. I have taken many boats above but I only do so when the water is unwadeable. Michael

I understand your concern Arkie Farmer with not being able to go up as far as you would like and sight fish. I could care less if someone is fly fishing or fishing with a spin reel. (if you did not know I do own a fly shop ) I do not sell any spinning gear but I'm not opposed to that method of fishing. My only concern is the safty of others, and the reason we wade is that when the water is off is vertually unatainable to most people with or with out a boat. I have Ranger bass boat and I would never take it above Point Royal with the water off, for two reasons first and foremost is safty and second is respect for others that are fishing up there because we know how skidish Trout are. There are several ways to sight fish for fish above the rebar hole when the water is off and I would be happy to start a new topic on that aswell. Two weeks ago I was down there and two people were in a boat they had been fishing down below and wanted to come above and fish. They parked there boat on the shore right in front of the KOA camp ground. They then proceded to put thier waders on and start wading I talked to them and told them that there were alot of people down here today that really thought that was great that they had that much respect for the other fisherman. Like I said at the start of this topic, lets all have fun and catch a lot of fish becuase there are a lot of states out there that would love to have what we have here in Missouri. Michael

I would like to take this time and thank everyone for there input on the shuffling. I think that key points have been made and that we now have some new topics to talk about. So with that said I will start this off. I think for everyones safty down on Taneycomo there should not be all the boat traffic up above the boat ramp when the water is off. True story I had a night guide trip down on Taneycomo this past fall, we all know how foggy it can get. I almost go hit by a boat down by the rocking chair hole. I was trying to get myself and client out of the water and flashing light and yelling as loud as I could and they just kept coming with the big motor on. When he drifted back down close enough to hear me I let him have it. Not good for my situation since I own a fly shop, but I was mad. He said that he thought the light flashing was coming form the light on the bank. I do not recall any lights down that far on the bank. I told him that this was a dangerous time to be up here and he needed to know the lake better. He said I quote"who cares I drove all the way down here I'm going to fish and who are you the person that owns this lake. I said no but I do know what is safe and what is not. " He said a few more choice words that I can not post here. I would like to see what people think and maybe we could get this changed and let us all remember that this is just a forum lets have fun and keep it clean. Michael

When I have come across someone shuffling, I hoop and holler when I catch a fish and even work harder to catch more fish in their veiw. In many instances, they have asked me what I was doing to catch so many fish. I show them what I am doing and the fly or flies I use, and inform them that shuffling in not the correct way to fish. Being as friendly and helpful as possible. Several of them, changed their way of fishing and started using the new techniques I showed them. Unfortunately, some did not. You can win some, lose some. A large number of us who participate with this forum and fish Taneycomo are accomplished fly fishers and tiers. Why not challenge ourselves to fish harder in the veiw of these shufflers. Hopefully, they will be willing to become better, more ethical fishers with our help and assistance. Lets approach this problem a more gentlemanly way. Fly fishing is the Gentlemans' Sport, women and children included. jim

Fellow disgruntled anglers, I addressed this topic during the open Conservation forum in Springfield this past fall. There is already a Missouri State Statue concering "Destruction of the Streambed". There is not a need for a law specifically targeting shuffling; it is already covered in this Missouri State Statue. Why are individuals not being issued citations for this illegal act. MDC Officials stated individuals have been ticketed for this violation. The biggest problem the area Conservation Officers are having concerning this is prosecution. The prosecting attorney and Associate Circuit Court judge are dimissing the charges, due to the fact that the ticketed individuals are stating that "their feet were cold" or "they had stumbled while walking through the streambed". If their feet are cold, get out of the water! If they are stumbling while walking through the streambed, they need to pay more attention to were they are going rather than their lure/fly at their feet! Prosecution shows NO TOLLERANCE towards traffic or game violations. Why do they let this violation of a Missouri State Statue slide by? MDC Officials stated they have no control over the prosecution of these individuals and to inform these individuals that what they are doing is unethical and illegal. Then I threw this curve ball at them: If one confronts an angler to inform them that disturbing the streambed/shuffling is unethical and illegal, you can be in violation of a Missouri State Statue concerning "Angler Harassment". This Law was mainly created for anglers fishing around boat docks on area lakes or being tormented by boats towing skiers, wake boards, and tubes as well as personal watercraft, but can also include situation as this. MDC Officials had NO comment on this. So here is the question, what is an ethical, law biding angler to do? MDC Officials can only do so much. Stop complaining to them. They are trying to do their job concerning this, as well as many other issues. Address this issue with the Taney County prosecuting attorney and Associate Circuit Court judge. This would be a GREAT program for the Trout Unlimited Club in Branson to have. I would drive an hour to see what their real concern and comments are about this. If they show no interest in this, inform them that you are considering voting in a new prosectutor and judge for Taney County, unless their veiws change on this subject. jim
