Wasn't the Arkansas world record fish caught in the Little Red River below Grears Ferry Lake, not the White River? The Michigan fish is a real beauty, Congrats to the angler! I am sure that that size is not only possible, but probably in Tany. I just don't think there is anybody that targets the real "monsters" .

Congradulations Phil and Marsha. You are such a great family, and deserve all the blessings that come your way. Pat and I are looking forward to the time when Nick and Mandy bring a baby into our lives. Until then our grandchild is a Chihuahua named Bruiser!
-
Looks like you had some good catches, sorry Nick and I couldn't make it. Maybe next year. Hope we have numbers like that for RAW this year!

Now I can't fish in cold weather. Military type ECWS (Extreme Cold Weather System) long underwear is made wuth guess what ? Polypropylene!!!

Great vids Phil. That's what is's ALL about!!!

Maybe just a silly thing, but I have been wondering for a long time why Trout jigs are tied with just the marabou, while Crappie jigs have a chenille body behind the head? I know that on the micro's up to maybe 1/8 oz they would be too small, but would it make a difference in the larger ones?

Friday 8-14-09 Report Maramec Spring Park
Gatorjet replied to Bman's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Cool, I'm also going to make sure I tell Phil to put you on the list for an invite to RAW. I'm sure he has your e-mail or home address. -
Friday 8-14-09 Report Maramec Spring Park
Gatorjet replied to Bman's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Only the poker run on the lower Gasconade in June. Did the Maramec from Route 66 SP ( times Beach) to Pacific Last year, I want to get on the river more, just been busy with honey-do's, and getting the 4-wheeler ready for the big trip to W.Vrginia in September. Maybe later this fall or in the spring we can get together for a day of river fishing. -
Friday 8-14-09 Report Maramec Spring Park
Gatorjet replied to Bman's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
That was the boating part! Was at Lileys last week wed-sat. Caught a few thursday, enough to say I had a good morning. Friday was slower, only a couple little silver bullets. I'm not used to summer fishing on Tany, usually only there in winter. Hope to catch up with you there one of these days. Next trip will be October 21-24. Son and daughter-in law will be there to. Don't know how much fishing we'll get in. Our annaversery is the 11th and son and daughter-in law is the 20th so we are combining our Branson celebrations to the same weekend. With the wives along, probably a lot of "Branson" stuff to do. Oh well, Nick and I will have our time in February for the RAW tournament. -
Friday 8-14-09 Report Maramec Spring Park
Gatorjet replied to Bman's topic in Maramec State Park/Springs
Wow Bman, between the reports and pics from you and Phil, I'm going to have to get that junky old flyrod of mine out and give it a try. Just what I need! With fishing, boating, hunting both gun and archery, shooting, handloading, and riding 4-wheelers plus maintaining all that stuff thats just what I need, another interest. I can hear it now. " Sorry Honey, have to put off a few more of those projects you wanted me to do. I've got a new hoby"!! -
They say a bad day fishing is better than a good day at work. Even though I have been retired since May, a bad day at Tanycomo is better than any day in St.Louis!!!!

I fished Thursday morning from Fall Creek to Short Creek. Didn't have a lot of success until I got to Short Creek. I caught several 12-14 inch 'bows on inflated night crawlers. The bite was so slight that I didn't feel it at all. I had to watch the line for ANY odd movement. A twitch, a slight movement to the side, or sometimes it moved straight toward the boat. The big problem was that by the time you noticed the bite, they had swallowed the hook. Most seemed healthy, and weren't bleeding so I cut the line to release them as safely as possibly. I kept 4 that were bleeding when I brought them into the boat. Didn't want to injure any more, so I fished a jig & float for a while with some success, but not as good as the crawlers. Friday morning wasn't as good, only a couple smaller fish in the same area. There were more fishermen there then, and it didn't seem that anybody was doingvery good. Didn't fish the drift in the afternoon much, had to take Wifey to town, and SDC to do the Branson stuff. Don't mind, it's all part of the fun!

Now that I'm back home I get the reports!!! Didn't even try for bass this trip afterall. Fished mostly up, Fall Creek to Short Creek and a little below Cooper Creek. I did venture down to the Islands up from Rockaway. Fished an inflated nightcrawler with no success. Also fished the other side of the lake from the Islands. Had one good hit on a Spin-A-Lure, but didn't get a hookset. Had to leave and go back up to Lilleys to pick up Wife to take her to SDC. Gotta leave her home so I can fish all day!!!

OK, I'll admit there isn't a giant man-eating squid. But there was a 20' gator on the lake since Wednsday. Mostly seen between Fall Creek and Short Creek. He stayed around Short Creek for most of Thursday morning and fed on several 12 to 14 inch rainbows. Friday he went pretty hungry with only a few smaller fish. If he is sighted again in October, be carefull, he will be hungry when he returns.
-
I like the Man-Eating Squid theory better

Did you do any fishing in the lower part of the trophy area, and below Fall Creek? Or did you stay up by the outlets? I'm not really a fly fisherman, mostly jigs, jig & float, Little Jakes, and if all else fails bait below Fall Creek. Going down next week Wed.-Fri. Sorry I missed you this week.
-
Remind me when I'm there next week, I'll give you a donation, and you can add some from your store.
-
New site looks great Phil! See ya next week, be down Wednsday. Weather forcast looks hot and steamy again like it was when I was there in May. Still getting the heavy fog in the mornings?

Being that nonchalant about using powerbait makes me wonder if it wasn't more of a case of total ignorance of the rules. That is certainly no excuse. In that situation I would be tempted to politely mention the regulations in that area, and give them a chance to not get ticketed. However, there would also be the possibility of a confrontation with a bunch of guys that, as you said had been drinking.so I think in that situation a call to Operation Game Theft would be in order without even confronting the offenders. I usually have my cell phone in the boat, and have OGT's number in the directory.

No, that is one of Phill's tournaments. Don't rember which, either the Masters in January or the Team in March. We have only fished the Team tournament once a couple years ago. I'd like to start fishing all three though.

Probably late April or early May. Just there to do the Branson thing that week. Gator was on the trailer for a while. Bad bearings in the pump, and I didn't know it at the time but the engine somehow didn't get completely drained after the RAW tournament in Feb. Ice and cast iron don't go good together! Was going to "tweak" it up to a 406 @ about 500 HP but all my tweak money went into a new stock 6.0 block. BTW, RAW is an invitation only tournament started by 2 guys in St.Loius named Rogers. Rogers Adventure Weekend. 1st Saturday in Feb. At it's peak there were about 80 boats. Slowed down a little, but it will be back up in numbers soon. A lot of the guys call it more a reunion than a tournament. Just a great weekend in the middle of the winter. Let me know if you and your son are interested, I'll get you an invite.

Gatorboats poker run. Usually the Saturday before Fathers Day. Although, I think a lot of Gator owners have places at Gascony village and are there almost every weekend. The last couple of years the river was so high we started on the gravel bar we usually end at, and only went up river a few miles for our only other stop. You probably didn't need a jet for that, I even saw people on a pontoon going up the river. The poker run is a charity event with proceeds going to The American Cancer Society. If you saw the you tube vid " float trip on steroids" my son Nick made that one on the 08 poker run. My Gator isn't one of the really fast ones, I have a 20' Fish and Sport that is set up as a tournament bass boat, full deck in front, 2 71/2 ' rod lockers, divided livewell.built in cooler and BIG storage area under the front of the deck. I'm nowhere in the league with the guys with the 21' tunnel hulls with the 502 and bigger motors mine has a little more than the stock 350, It's a Votec 6.0, about 60mph top end.

Does anybody on this forum fish the lower Gasconade river? Brown Shanty, Heild's Island, down to Gasconade. I have been on it only once a year for the past 5 years, but never fished it. I know ther is a lot of jetboat traffic on it ( I'm one of them), but it looks like there are some good places to fish anyway. I've only been on the river for a "Poker Run" with usually close to 100 boats, so I don't think it's that busy every weekend.

Lilley's is a great place. Operated by some of the nicest people I have ever encountered at any resort. Your family will love it

Are the Little Jakes you mentioned the Spin-A-Lure? I use those a lot, but the interesting thing is my color choice is the exact opposite of yours. From bass fishing with spinnerbaits, gold gives more flash in colored water and cloudy days, silver is flashy in bright conditions. Hum! I don't know if it really matters though, my son uses gold all the time. One thing I use the Spin-A-Lure for is a "locator". I watch the lure on the retrieve, and if there are fish in the area there will be several chasing it even if they don't hit it.
