  1. I've never had a boat on Taney but from what I've seen it's pretty narrow so I don't see a big need for speed. I have fished the White quite a bit and do enjoy the tranquility of floating with the current, just enough motor to get back, all you need. Now to step on toes. with what I've read as my only source of information, It wouldn't bother me to put a motor resriction, or probably better a speed limit. That should be fairly easy to enforce since the lake is pretty small and there are several dock and resort owners that could report the problem makers. Sorry in advance, just my idea.
  2. Hi DC...I havn't been on lately saw where you had posted and wanted to say hello. Chemo? Our prayers are with you, I'm sure you'll beat it and be back out fishing. God bless....AB
  3. Yeah what Danoinark said, but since writing that my wife pointed out the fact that a lot of people come to Taney and leave there boats at home, so I take back what I said before.....sorry
  4. I would rent the boat although I think putting electronics on it would cause you more headaches than it's worth. Most people renting a boat probably wouldn't know much about them.
  5. I voted for land development. As far as watercraft Trav I wouldn't say ban them all except fishing but I sure would like to see them jet-skiers be a little more courteous. I was fishing haverstick cove on Pomme last year which is full of trees and stumps just under the water and a jerk on a jet ski was showing off went by me withen 20 feet several times wide open...so you have my vote take the jet ski and cane the moron
  6. Trav: I have to agree with Greg, you can sure stir the pot. I'm wondering if you didn't throw the stick down and get an evinrude...wink wink
  7. Why all watercraft except fishing?
  8. Hi Trav: I can't help you much on the musky, but yes I understand the best way to catch Musky is trolling for them. I have heard of someone ocasionally catching one while bass fishing but not often. A friend was telling me he was crappie fishing off his dock this fall and there was several Musky around his dock but no crappie ( Go Figure ) I mainly crappie fish when I'm on Pomme, but seem to catch a lot of green carp AKA Bass. Oh well they still make pretty good filets. Hope I helped some on your question....AB
  9. Welcome Bob, it doesn't sound like your new to the folks that are here, but they can sure answer questions for you. I've been here about a month, and have had several answered....AB
  10. I wanted to take a minute and wish everyone a merry Christmas. I hope you all get the presents you want, but lets not forget what this holiday is all about...merry Christmas and God Bless from me and the mrs. AB
  11. Well this has certainly been an exciting flurry of postings. I joined this website because I want to learn more about trout fishing and about Taneycomo and the local fishing etiquette. I am not a "fly" man yet but I am working my way up to that. From what I can see, Taney offers such a wide range of opportunities to the sport fisherman... it's hard to understand why it isn't fished more than it is. I understand the need for conservation. We practice this no matter what we are fishing for... my wife and I talked to the MDC agent at the hatchery about catch and release. He said that if we catch big bows in the upper area or for that matter anywhere in the lake, we should take them rather than releasing, as the bigger bows are usually "brooders" that have been released and need to be taken out of the "gene" pool. He also said that they do stock a few brownies, just not as heavily as the bows of course. The bottom line of all of this... whether you are a newbie just learning, a tourist coming for that guided trip because they want have a new experience on a lake they are not familiar with, a transplanted local or a guy who just wants to get his line wet whenever he can... we are all after the same thrill... and most of us would like to be able to pass this on the next generation. As long as MDC continues to stock lakes and streams with the bows you have a controlled species environment... so what are we trying to govern... MDC's stocking procedures or the fisherman?
  12. Hey CD I can't tell you a thing about Pomme right now. I did get out for a little bit yesterday, but I went to Stockton and tried trolling at the dam for walleye, first pass over the old coffer dam and line started peeling, thought man I have found em, it was a big white bass. Right after that the wind picked up big roller waves and decided it was time for the house. Had fun and enjoyed just be on the water.
  13. I havn't fished Taneycomo since I was a youngster, but I got hooked on trout a few weeks ago on a guided trip on the White river One of the things I noticed about Taney was all the technics you could use, from wading to drifting. I don't have to catch fish to enjoy being on the water, it difenetly is a plus, I like catching lunkers bou the pan size to me are better eating. So there should be plenty for all.
  14. Apparently, since I don't live there or don't meet your expectations as a fisherman extraordinaire... I'm just a tourist who doesn't know how to fish and doesn't have the right to try and learn... sorry about that Trav. Since I am still learning about trout fishing... if they don't spawn at Taneycomo, why have a slot or any restrictions on bait? MDC is going to restock using money spent by inept tourists that "invade your lake."
  15. leave it the way it is.
  16. Ok Zander, I really appreciate you getting back. Sounds like it might be a pretty good place to go explore a little,
  17. I was hoping to find a place close that might not be as busy as the bigger lakes, I've lived here all my life but never tried this lake before,so forgive me for these questions in advance....What kind of fish are in here, I'm interested in crappie, cats, and walleye.I also beleive there's a h.p. limit so I probably won't be using my boat , so can you rent boats from the marina? And probably not the last is how deep is this lake? Thank you in advance for helping me...AB
  18. Everyone has there opinion.
  19. My 2 cents...leave it the way it is, I havn't exactly got to fish Taneycomo yet but I have seen what introducing muskie to pomme de terre has done, fewer crappie
  20. DC....I was going to have a peek but I couldn't get thru on the computer. No big surprise I type with 1 finger (you know search and punch) anything more than point and click and I'm in trouble. Anyhow I guess your kids made it thru the storm, Understand we need to get ready in Bolivar area.Good luck on the fihing expedition.
  21. Thanks again Dutch, I was about to ask if that would work on walleye but I think Quillback answered that. When I was about 12 I took a 4H trip to Cannon falls Minnisota to learn their hog farming technics, the family I stayed with liked to fish, I remember they used nightcrawlers pumped up with air. I wonder if that would work with the drop shot?
  22. I appreciate it Dutch, I'm going after Christmas and give it a try. I heard about drop shot, or I guess it would be just tight line fishing the way I understood the it. Anyway it sounded like it would work good in the winter when the fish are gatherd up in their winter pool.
  23. D.C. My wife works at the Galmey church and was without power from monday till tuesday afternoon....said Wheatland got smacked pretty good but around the lake was alright. No-one has said anything about dock damage, hope your kids are back up and running, just in time for round 2.
  24. I live in Bolivar,if you need anything let me know and I'll do my best to find it for you......sorry I just noticed the date
  25. We dodged the bullet alright, feel sorry for the folks out there and hope it clears out fast for them. On the other side your dock was saved on pommie, had some friends lost their dock and 2 boats last January, as they said nothing money can't fix... anyway we can pray for your kids and praise God they're alright.
