  1. AMEN, the people on this forum are awsome
  2. thx for the response, a jig and craw and a big worm are my go to baits this time of year, I really like blk neon in a worm at night and will often use tomatoe
  3. welcome Bob, kayaks are a popular way to fish and I'm sure you'll find plenty of others on here that have experience
  4. suggestions for rod action and line flutter spoon fishing
  5. anyone noticed a lg mouth bite being better on craws or shad type baits this summer
  6. need to get a new reel, primary use will be spinner baits. everything I've looked at is high speed 7:1 or higher and that seems way to fast to me. suggestions please
  7. memories of fishing with my dad on bull shoals, throwing lazy ikes, hulla divers, and a blk buck tail jig with a blk pork eel. all this on thumb burner reels. also remember the first time plastic worms came on the market. thanks dad, your gone but not forgotten
  8. what are some of your favorite reaction type baits you like to use at night for bass. around docks and tree tops I like to use a buzz bait or a single spin with a thumper type blade. you don't always get many bites but it is how I always looked for that kicker fish

  10. haven't bass fished in several years and decided to dabble in it again. so went to fin and feather to see what kind of lies were being told [lol]. there was a guy there that has tournament fished around here for years that said have you tried these. they are called a wable head jig. my first impression was man that is going to hang up a lot. bought a couple of packages and went home to play with one. tied one on with a hog craw on the hook and went to the yard to see how it looked. well I put in in the shrubs, rocks even up in the trees. never got hung up once. I'm amazed how well they performed. I like to keep may tackle selection fairly simple and these are definitely going in the tackle box
  11. you can still catch some qaulity fish by the powe plant. get away from stink bait, worms, and srimp. you will catch mostly dinks on those baits. try large minows, small perch or even some fresh cut up perch. bite is slower but worth the wait. I like to use large live perch to entice a big flathead
  12. hey Harry welcome back
  13. if you want some smell just cut up some blue guill or shad and leave in the gutts. the only bait I buy is worms then I just catch some guills for bait
  14. it depends on the species of cats, channels like stinky but they also like shad or cut bait, blues like fresh cut bait better, and flatheads prefer live bait. for big flatheads there is nothing better than live blue guill
  15. Daryk I live in sw mo near springfield, looks like we are a ways apart, but if your ever down this way
  16. looking for someone that would like to tag along . main interest is in trying to catch big flatheads on rod and reel, so that usually means at nite. or low light. I fish from the bank and don't have a boat.have caught them up to 20lbs but the big ones have eluded me. I'm retired and .fish sunday thru tuesday shoot me a pm if your interested in going some time.
  17. that was what I meant, haven't used bait for trout in almost 30yrs. the point of this post was about a truly trophy fish of a lifetime. just think about it, a pure strain of McCloud river trout born wild and raised wild in a small Missouri stream. there are people that come here from all over the U.S. for a chance to fish for them. I am not an avid trout fisherman but man what a trophy that was, and by the way the fish was hook in the side of the jaw and the hook was easily removed
  18. fishing from the bank, and thinking about the point by north side ramp. can you drive out onto the point or is it walk in. after the weather cools a little more going to try for some big flatheads from the bank. according to the topo maps the deeper water swings in closer out toward the end of the point on the west side. anyone fished it from the bank before thanks Jim
  19. it was many years ago, before mdc made it a blue ribbon trout stream. an acquaintance that grew up in the area told me there was trout in the stream so I went. was using an ultralight with 4# line and a missouri night crawler[i know I'm going to he$$] . after a hard battle brought the fish to the bank but still in the water, laid my rod next to her to take a measurement. when I got home I measured where the fish was on the rod and it was almost 22". I never took the fish out of the water and watched her swim away. it is a memory I will always treasure.
  20. all the hot air from the politicians has screwed up the weather patterns
  21. those kind of people are OXYGEN THIEVES, a total waste of breathable air
  22. the lake is low, no water going over the dam from lack of fresh water coming in . wonder how long it will be before we see a fish kill due to low oxygen levels
  23. to catch gills I use hook and line. a #6 hook with just a small piece of worm. if you use too big of a piece of worm they will just strip it off the hook. I usually try to catch the bait where I am going to fish. as for shad, you need a cast net and I don't have any experience with that. bluegill spawn several times a year and if you find an area where they are spawning, then catch some for bait and after dark FISH THERE! you've found the dinner table. PS if you can't catch any bait in an area it is probably void of bigger fish also
