  1. I fished Roaring River Saturday morning and then went to Beaver. I stopped in at the dam store and talked to steve. Got some pointers and talked fishing for a while. Thanks to Steve for all his help. I started at Parker bend and went down a couple hundred yards. didn't have much luck drifting scuds but while I was ther a hatch came off so I switched to a #22 adams midge and did pretty well. Not much size but they were aggressive and fun to catch. I moved up above parker bend and still had good dry action. I was there for almost 2 hours and caught probably a dozen fish. Not great but it beat doing the honey do list at home. Good luck and Good fishing sparky
  2. Thanks, I tried to make it down last evening but they were running 3 units from about 6 to 9 pm. I didn't check after that. maybe tonight. The moon will be brighter than I would like but I need to fish. I am about to go through withdrawl.
  3. I am hoping to get over there and do some night fishing toward the end of this week. Has anyone been fishing this week? night or day?
  4. Russ, I have tried several different pairs of glasses and I too like the amber over the gray. I bought a pair of action optics years ago and still like them very much. definately buy the holder.
  5. murdoc, Cheasapeake, halltown it's all the same thing. I think I use to work with you. I have been to RR and it was great. I gave a Report on the RR forum. I have a funeral to go to and some christmas shoping to do this weekend but give me a call and we'll get together for RR or taney Sparky
  6. Hello murdoc, I use an old, but you may want to try a new one, orvis braided leader and tie 6lb mono to the end of that. but all of my taney time is at night. you wouldn't happen to be from the halltown area?
  7. ollie, the only problem is that my wife is meaner than the devil and I have to spend more time with her . And she can make my life worse than hell. So guess which one wins most of the time.
  8. for some reason that date is suppose to mean something to me but I can't rember what. I'm pretty sure it isn't my aniversy but other than that I am at a loss. I'm sure my wife will tell me, but I will try to be there.
  9. Lilly, Thanks for clearing this up for me. I always thought that PETA always stood for People Eating Tasty Animals. boy I'm glad I didn't join. Here is a video about peta that is very interesting. beware it also uses some language that may be offensive. Peta Info remember knowledge is power.
  10. I would have to agree that a 4 or 5 weight is plenty, however, and I'm sure most of you will think I am crazy, but most of my fishing at the dam is at night and I am usually dragging big conehead wollies or leaches and I usually throw a 9' 6" 8 weight. especially in the fall and winter when there is a chance for bigger fish.
  11. Leonard, Sorry, but I can't tell you if it is different in the park. I know that in the many years that I worked down there we told people they had to stop fishing when they put the 5th fish on the stringer. I don't know if that was correct but thats what we were told to tell them. I will try to get a hold of one of the agents around here and let you know for sure.
  12. steve, I don't know if I will be around this weekend or not but if I see you I will get some burlaps to you. They really are very simple to tie. I don't even use wire or plastic back anymore. just burlap on a scud hook.
  13. Steve, give your friend congrats from me. That was a fine fish. I went up the that hole after you all left to have a look around and the big boy was sitting just off of the bank in prime snagging position, I was able to reach his tail and give him a nudge to get him going. I don't think he realized he had been let go. when I left he was cruising and ready to go again. congrats again
  14. A burlap is a scud pattern tied out of a burlap bag. simply take the strands out of the bag and use them as body material. I like to also use a few wraps of lead wire around the shank for weight. I have used them for years in several states and a couple of different countries. But they really seem to work best here in the ozarks.
  15. Slipped down to the river for a couple of hours between family gatherings. I have been fishing Roaring River All of my life and fly fishing Roaring River for the last 20 or 21 years I forget exactly. In that time I have only seen one C & R Season as good, and that was back in the early 90's. I fished for two hours today and I am tired from catching so many fish. The real story are the big fish in the river. My second fish of the day was a 26" female. I would guess her in the 11 lb range. I moved up one hole, and caught a 25" female that I would guess in the 10 lb range. I must confess though that this fish was hooked on the outside of the mouth so technically was a foul hooked fish. I released her and caught a couple more small fish and then caught the same 25" fish a second time on the same fly. The second time was a legal hook. I was feeling pretty proud of my days catch until a guy in the next hole hooked a male rainbow that was every bit of 13lbs and might push 14lbs. All fish were released unharmed and the warden even took pictures with my camera for me. If they don't turn out we can blame the state. I was fishing an old favorite of mine, The Burlap, size 16 and 14. on a 6x tippet and a 5 wt rod. My wife had the digital camera at family things so you will have to wait until I get the film developed to see pictures, But you can go catch your own. The river is packed with big fish. good luck and good fishing
