Baits And Tackle From Japan
Larry Richards replied to Larry Richards's topic in General Angling Discussion
I just used Megabass baits as and example of how the terrible disaster in Japan will impact the fishing industry as a whole. It could take years to rebuild the sea ports in order to export products to the World again.Another example would be the parts for Yamaha motors or repair parts for your reels and so on.Yes,the tackle industry is just a small part of the impact of the disaster but this is a fishing forum so I only pointed out how it would effect fisherman. -
Baits And Tackle From Japan
Larry Richards replied to Larry Richards's topic in General Angling Discussion
Lucky Craft co. is in Japan but there baits are made in China Another thing is can the Tackle industry in Japan survive without being able to export for what may be a long time? -
I read a article on the web about the effects of the earthquake and the export of products to the US from Japan. If you have any baits and tackle that you like from Japan you just might want to stock up NOW!.It may be a long time until they are back in the export business to the US.You might see baits like the Megabass 110's going for $100ea due to the shortage.

I like the #059 Phantom Brown Crayfish and the #086 Phantom Green Crayfish. After loosing my last old school phantom and seeing the ridiculous prices the old school warts were selling for on Ebay I just bought the new Original ones at wal mart.I must say that the fish dont seem to care,I catch just as many as I did on the old school ones.I use a 6'6" medium rod and 10lb fluorocarbon line.

Coolest Fish You've Ever Caught
Larry Richards replied to ozark trout fisher's topic in General Angling Discussion
The coolest trout Ive caught would have to be the Apache Gila trout on the West fork of the Black River in the White mountains of Arizona. The coolest Bass Ive caught would have to be the Spotted/smallmouth bass hybreds here on Lake Norfork -

The fall of the year is a great time to catch bass, and while many people are thinking about hunting, you're going to want be thinking about fishing. When other people are getting out their guns, I get out my rods. Fall is the time for fishing. In the fall bass go on an eating spree in anticipation of the potentially lean times of winter.I like to Concentrate on Creeks In the Fall in the upper part of the lake that have lay down logs, stump rows, chunk rock, sunken brush and boat docks.Fall will bring us rain and falling temps and the fresh rain water running into the creeks will almost always result in greater oxygen levels, a greater shad population within the creeks, which in turn results in bass following the shad into these areas.Find the shad find the fish MY Lure selection for fall.. Going into Fall the rivers arms cool off first while the deep water close to the dam cools off last.So I start my fall fishing in October up in the river arms and move to mid lake in November as the water temps cool. I am hoping to catch the feeding frenzy.I like to fish the Coves, Cuts,Points (both primary and secondary) Channel swings and flats Don’t stop your search until you find the shad.I like my lure selection to resemble a shad for the most part in the fall.I will fish areas with a topwater early and then work them over with crankbaits or spinnerbaits. If the weather has the fishing slow grab your jig rod or shaky head and slow down. Once you pick up a fish or two, look for areas that are similar and work the pattern.I keep 5 rods on the deck of my boat for fall fishing.. 1/ Topwater 2/ Spinnerbait 3/ Crankbait 4/ Tube bait (flipping & pitching) 5/ Shaky Head or Drop Shot

Same thing happened to a friend of mine on lake Norfork but he wasn't as lucky as you.A striper guide boat running WOT on GPS hit him broadside in the fog,he found himself upside down in the water under his Champion that was cut in half. His recovery and lawsuit is another story in itself.

What Is Your Favorite Fishing Season?
Larry Richards replied to Chief Grey Bear's topic in General Angling Discussion
I have to go with fall as my number 1 just for the numbers of fish followed by winter to early spring when I have the lakes to myself.I love to fish jerkbaits and wiggle warts and winter to early spring is the best time for those baits. -
Last Spring Bill Babler was touting Daiichi Deathtrap trebles. I paid attention (I always do when he talks fishing) but did not rush to buy any. I had a good stock of VMC Barbarians for my hook exchange needs. I recently ordered some #4 trebles for a project. The last several days I have been tying feathered treble trailers from them. Now, I am no Lee Wulff, but I do own a vise, a bobbin, and I have tied many, many feathered trebles, among other things. I say that so you realize the impact of the next statement. My finger tips look like someone made me pick up broken bottles by hand. I have repeatedly nicked and cut myself on the sharp devils. At nearly a dollar each hook, I won't rush to replace all my walleye crankbait hooks, but if it really matters, they are the stickiest I've ever found. OUCH I Sunk a size 4 treble hook on a Sammy into my thumb last week unhooking a fish.Sure hurt pushing that hook on through and out so I could cut the barb off to get it out...I had a hell of a time unhooking the fish I was trying to pry open his mouth with my thumb the fish had the front treble on the Sammy hooked on the top and bottom of the mouth so his mouth was hooked shut when he started to jerk around my thumb hooked on the back treble.."OUCH".There are two ways to remove a hook. The method I used involves applying ice if you have it or nums-it to the wounded area and pushing the barbed end of the fishing hook through your skin, taking a pair of wire pliers and snipping off the barb, then feeding the rest of the hook back through the skin and out at the puncture site. The other method is to Tie a long length of fishing line or strong string to the bend in the hook.Push the hook shank down parallel to the injured tissue to disengage the barb on the hook (on the inside). While the hook shank is down, give the line a hard and sharp jerk in the direction the hook entered the tissue. The hook will usually come right out of the entry hole with very little pain.If the hook is embedded in the eye or face; seek medical attention immediately to have it removed.

NOW lets see yours...
