  1. thanks alot murdoc and wayne I will probably use both directions you have given me. I really like taneycomo but when it is really crowded or not very fishable, I wouldnt mind giving rr a shot. I also strictly want to plan a fishing trip to rr so I wouldnt have to go to Branson
  2. help phil!!!!!!!! I am getting exactly what fox statler is getting I downloaded the windows media player 10 and it is just a white box on your link with a menu to the left. i am dying to see this so pleeeeeeaaaaaaaase help
  3. I agree with moose 50. Probably, most of the people who link on to this site want to talk about fishing, but that can get old after awhile, so talking about hunting can be a good backup. In my opinion, keep the fishing forum going strong. Its pretty hard to find a good fishing forum. My favorite hunting forum is archerytalk.com but of course shooting bows(not rainbows )is my passion.
  4. Sounds like a good idea if you ask me. Maybe at the beginning of the thread, there can be directions on how to post pictures because that frustrates many people from not being able to post.
  5. I wouldnt either Phil. Leonard I agree with you too. It looks like the trout got away after one incision with the knife. This topic was also discussed at www.ozarkchronicles.com
  6. GLAD TO HEAR IT LEONARD! sorry I havent posted in awhile....college sure is keeping me busy
  7. dang!!!!!!!!!! cut him open and see what the heck that guy eats
  8. Can anyone give me general directions on how to get to this river. I will be coming from Rolla, Mo so I will take I-44 and hit 65, I will take 65 to branson and then what is the next step to take??? Also, how far is it from lake Taneycomo?(I heard only about an hour or so)
  9. a buddy and i went down for some c&r fishing at bennett. We arrived about 8:30 and started by the bridge(not the whistle bridge). I stood on the ledge that the water falls over for about an hour and hooked up to 3 12-13 inch rainbows. I then moved towards the bridge and was drifting under it, I picked up about 10-12 more small ones and then fished where that little hatchery shoot comes out and caught about 20 dinks. I caught all of these on glow balls and a scud. My friend and I decided it was time to catch some bigger fish so we left the little ones alone and headed down a little into zone 2. We quickly got into them and I had landed a 15 incher right off the bat. After a couple more landed, my buddy spotted a real decent rainbow cruising around. I threw at it a couple of times and he wasnt interested but I didnt give up. Since I was seemingly scaring him when my fly hit the water, I threw way upstream of him so he wouldnt get spooked. After my indicator passed over him I was just waiting for that twitch. He hammered the scud and the fight was on. It wasnt the biggest trout I ever caught but was the biggest I had caught from Bennett (21 inches app. 5-5 1/2 lbs.) Plus I was using only a 3 wt. It was a bittersweet moment because somehow my fly rod broke when I was landing it in the net. After saying a few select words my buddy and I decided we would grab a bit to eat. We got back on the river again at about 2:30. We went to zone 2(where the split river joins into one river) We saw that the fish were stacked in the shoot so we decided to fish it until the whistle. Since my fly rod was broke, my buddy graciously shared with me his flyrod and we took turns catching fish. We probably each caught about 30 fish and they never slowed down hitting. We just had to stop because of the whistle. We didnt pick up any more big ones though. All and all it was a decent trip. I was kind of dissapointed in the size of the fish other than a couple I caught. Numbers were high though. I think I probably caught about 75 rainbows and not a single brown(buddy caught one). Now I am out of comission until I get my rod repaired/replaced
  10. Try giving albright rods a try. In my opinion when you hold a albright and a winston side by side, they are both equal in quality and feel. Albright is reasonably priced too(about 365 dollars) I personally like ross reels. I too didnt think that reels were not extremely important, but like alot of other guys said it comes in handy when you have a bigger fish on. I prefer the large arbor reels and i currently have the cla1 model reel(on a 3 wt rod) Another good reel for the money is the bass pro cv2 reel.
  11. leonard, i havent had a chance to report until now. My 2 buddys wussyd out on the night fishing so we stook to the daytime fishing. mainly fished out of the boat. We did good on tan, pink, and orange egg flies with a scud dropper. Didnt catch any nice ones though(is it just me or do the fish seem smaller when fishing out of the boat.)? i am used to fishing the trophy area and catching 14-20+ fish and we were catching 10-12 inchers left and right out of the boat. All and all it was an okay trip(good weather, but not very good quality fish). I probably caught 65-75 down there(all rainbows) The good thing is that i got my new flyrod and it is sweeeeeeeet. Cant wait until next time to do some night fishing. Stay in touch with me leonard and maybe next time we can meet up
  12. lilley, i live about 20 mins from the meramec. i will report as often as i can if you put a meramec section on this board. as far as the most recent report, i fished it 2 weeks ago from today and only fished in the park(catch and release every day) I caught 3 on #16 tan scuds up by the first bridge. one was a beautiful rainbow that was 21 inches-5-5 1/2 lbs. the other two were 12 inchers. i then fished another hour or so between stephole and granny hole(toward the beginning of the park as well) and caught 3 more on egg flies(all which were stockers) The river this time of year is down a little and the water is a bit cloudy(can still see to the bottom though). As far as the trophy trout section, I havent heard much about it recently other than two guys with spinning rods catching quite of few rainbows on deep diving crawdads. I havent been able to find the browns this year.
  13. leonard, sometimes size doesnt matter(i just like getting some bent rod time in) 15 in 1and a half hours at night. that sounds awesome. what kinds of flies should i get besides sculpin and wooleys? thanks
  14. leonard, i believe i saw somewhere that that weekend will be the 2nd and 3rd days of a new moon. i will have to look again though to confirm.(the first quarter phase wasnt until the 11th i believe)
  15. just curious what weight fly rod you all use and how heavy tippet do you use during what circumstances?
