  1. Obama said he wouldn't take your guns away - BUT he NEVER said anything about passing legislation with huge fees and prison time if you don't comply with the new gun laws. He also did not promise anything on restricting ammunition. His home state of Illinois, a person just can't buy ammunition as you do in most states. You need ID issued by the state.
  2. Sounds like a great time. I like it when the fish hit anything you throw at them! Unlike the summer when they get really picky. Montauk always produces some great fish.
  3. It's a huge panic across the United States. Obama's record on anti gun positions, he is the #1 gun sales person of the year. A month or so prior to the election when it looked like he was in the lead, sales started shooting up. The day after the election, shelves were cleaned off. According to one ammo manufacturer, there is about a 3-4 month back order time. So orders placed in November 08 are surfacing now. Prices have gone up some, but not significantly. Some of the things about taxes and serial numbers were discussed, but I don't think those are the main fears. It is the unknown on what Obama will do. So instead of someone buying 1 box as they normally would do, then going to the store to get another box, they are buying up thousands of rounds. A panic is on with reloading supplies and everything else gun related. The good news, if you call it that, with everything else going on with the economy, I think it would be hard to move some strict gun control on the agenda right now. The recent announcement by Holder probably created another wave of panic. I noticed a few weeks ago, there was quite a bit of ammo that was being stocked up at retail stores vs. low inventories in November / December 2008. Holder wants to ban guns here because of problems in Mexico. They should just pass laws to make drugs illegal, then there would not be any problems.
  4. The guy at TroutBeads.com indicated (maybe a sales tactic) that sizes are important and the fish can lock in on a particular size and/or color. With that in mind, he indicated the guides carry a LOT of different beads (that helps the sales having a lot of beads). It is true that size and/or color can make a difference on scuds or any other fly. Some of the reports I have read indicate some people were not getting many hits on one particular size, they changed up and started getting fish.
  5. Sounds like an excellent day! Congrats!
  6. You're welcome! Glad you are on the creek and not crowding the lift lines on the slopes, I get more runs in per day!
  7. If it's that cold, I'm staying where it's warm!
  8. With antennas you can get 3.14% more line twist.
  9. If you tie on hourglass eyes / presentation eyes on top of the hook shank, that will flip the fly over for you (or make the hook ride up).
  10. Cabela's has some great quality vises for sale (not the Cabela's brand) that are rotary, come with material clips, bobbin holders and several other items. You will find the material holders are a nice point to put materials but will also act as a point to hold a spool of other material. Makes it a lot easier especially if you are tying in several things. There are a ton of things you can do with your own feathers. Biots are on every bird. Buying them is much easier than trying to dye some (IMO), but still neat to use your own feathers you have collected. If you want to die, having the liquids around 140*F helps.
  11. No, it's usually pretty good then. As you mentioned, weekends there are always more people.
  12. Where is it falling apart? From the ends? Passing it through a flame for a quick pass (just enough to tapper the ends) may prevent that. Plus the tapper will give it a more natural look. Hope that helps.
  13. A worm pattern will work on trout any where in the world. For a spinning rig, just have enough weight (tiny) to get them down but not too much to keep you from getting a perfect drift.
  14. On March 1, 2009 the bell will go off at 06:30am. When the time changes in a week after that for Sunday March 8, 2009 the bell will go off at 07:30am. So that's why they print the transition times for those months that we change the clocks.
  15. Brrr, they are predicting 18* in the morning but at least it will be sunny!
  16. That's good to hear they got the equipment out. That is hard on it when water is over the cab! Amazed they don't have a shield around that AC cab, looks like the windows can get busted out in all those trees.
  17. If you are catching them at Taneycomo, I think you will find the trout park are easier to catch and the same things will work. Egg patterns will usually produce all year long in the parks, don't forget to try some San Juan worms. This time of the year the worms seem to work pretty well. As you mentioned wooly buggers are great - any color works good. Your micro jigs, scuds, sowbugs...any of them. If the water is stained, brighter colors seem to help. Good luck - but you will find they will hit just about anything. I think early in the year you can get away with large flies. As the summer goes on and into July and August, small #18, #20 or smaller seem to be the ticket. I'll throw some #24 dries and they produce well. There are some sections on the forum that are just about the parks, quite a bit of infomation there. http://ozarkanglers.com/forums/index.php?showforum=77
  18. Take some snacks or food. Don't leave fruit on the dashboard.
  19. As you know they may be hot on one fly, then the next day ignore it. A lot of it comes from fishing pressure I think. Try the stand by flies this time of year: egg patterns, San Juan worms, scuds, sowbugs, wooly buggers and micro jigs. If the water is stained or has quite a bit of current (usually more this time of the year), you usually do better fishing on the bottom, make sure you are deep enough. If you are fly fishing, the entire area is good. They have a catch and release section. Some BIG fish are in there and usually less crowded. I really like the way things are set up there. Then you also have all the river to fish. That is far less crowded and you can find some good spots in there also - it is the bait or anything goes section.
  20. Don't forget to try some San Juan worms, sowbugs and scuds. All are great this time of the year. Micro jigs as listed above, white works great, if the water is stained bright colors are good also. Wooly buggers seem to produce.
  21. I was thinking about it, but have done it once. Maybe it's a tradition but it is just insane standing shoulder to shoulder with someone. If I wasn't on the water in a situation with that, I would find more enjoyment stuff in an elevator with strangers.
  22. Wow, that's a lot of fish being pulled out of there. For put and take trout that's a little different since they can stock so many or at least have a park mentality.
  23. I think a boat is the answer to Taneycomo.
  24. Can't believe I forgot, was it $5 last year?
