Ace Hardware sells bead chain by the foot in several different sizes

I've had good success with #6 and #8 clousers yellow/white, orange/white, grey, white. work um slow so the lead eyes bounce the bottom and make clicking sounds. Gregg

I have, and those are hand tied tapered leaders, and flourocarbon they will sink, if there is any debris in the water the knots will pick it up, only use them if the water is ginn clear. I use twisted/furled leaders, cheap to make and last forever, make them out of mono or flouro, youtube by flatslander. Gregg

It's a toss up between streamers at night and small dries with a small#20-24 midge dropper. Both ways really improve your skills. Is it the weekend yet?

Mic, You keep right on posting, and give as much information as you like, I do, Dont think that MDC has'nt built into their regulations for maximun ammount of fishing pressure, and some abuse of regulations. If they see a problem with a fishery they'll make changes. (Fly fishing)for me is a legacy, I want to bring as many people into this sport as I can. I have'nt been fly fishing for very long and I remember a couple of years ago I was fishing a tailwater in oklahoma for the first time and struggling to hook up with a fish, and there was a gentlman just up from me who was doing quite well so I asked him what fly he was using and he would not tell me, like I was asking some giant secret, anyway from that day I go out of my way to aid other anglers, if you ask me what fly I'm using I'm going to hand you one. I'll show you what rock their hiding behind, as long as you dont crowd me P.S. 22.5 yrs USAF and also a PM Gregg

I had to check, rd 990 is the watts area parking, probably a 1/4 mile down stream is the gauge.
-
Down river from the Watts property There is a cable accross the river that cable is connected to the gauge, its hidden back in the trees. If you dont mind walking you can wade all the way to marvell

Here are the flies I used, the midges were tied on the bend of the hook, 18" +- under the psyco prince, and the prince was suspended about 3' under an indicator, so your midge will be 4 1/2' down. I use a yarn indicator, they seen alot more sensitive Gregg

Sorry I have'nt gotten back sooner, I'll try and get some decent pics this evening and post them, I plan on heading down tommorrow to try some other patterns I've been messing with. Gregg

Building Your Own Twisted/furled Leaders
Hopper replied to troutfiend1985's topic in General Angling Discussion
I use 2 lb test line, and if you put a perfection loop at both ends you will double the strenght of the leader, use the same lb test as the weight of the rod 2-3wt 2 lb, 4-5 wt 4 lb, 6-7 wt 6 lb, 8 wt 8 lb. -
Building Your Own Twisted/furled Leaders
Hopper replied to troutfiend1985's topic in General Angling Discussion
I use these on all my rods 3wt thru 8wt, primary benefits are durability and zero memory, I also believe they turn over easier, they also have some stretch to them so if you are using light tippets you have alot less chance of breaking off. I have a jig for making furled leaders but gave it up after Craig showed me how to make these. I make them in both mono and floro for all types of conditions. Another advantage is you can make them any length you like; throwing streamers on sinking line I use a 5 ft leader with 3-4 ft of floro tippet. On my 3 wt I use a 10' for dries and switch to a 7' for midges. Gregg -
fished yesterday and it was great, arrived at 9:00 looked like the water been off for awhile. Parked at the first gravel lot below the dam. Fished upstream at the rocks and the long pool, used a #16 red psycho prince nymph attractor with a black #20 poision tung dropper, and a #20 two tone red and tan zebra W/black prism collar both droppers caught alot of fish, nothing huge but the action was worth the drive and cold. Saw three other people all day, it was cold starting out but it warmed up nice around noon, just enough breeze to keep the surface broken up. Alot less snow around Gore than what Tulsa recieved. I have to agree with Zach, the Home Waters book comes with a very good map and a very discriptive breakdown of the river, plus maps and descriptions of many other rivers. Gregg
-
Size 22 black parachute midge on a scud hook, I fished it like a zebra midge about 3' deep. I caught the first fish and a few more then broke off the two I had and did'nt feel like walking back for another, so I tied on #18 jujubee midge and did pretty well. Great day overall, nice weather, great chilli, fun event. If anyone is interested a fly tying event will be held this weekend(15th) at the creek county fair grounds. For more information log onto Oklahomaflyfishers.org(type in the adress bar) or Green country fly fishers web site. Gregg

First time I've ever been skunked. Water was lowest I've ever seen(both spilway gates were all the way down) and the water temp was 39 deg. nothing moving, I literally walked right up to some gar and bumped them with my boots and they just barely moved off. Gregg

no problem

No later than 9:00am, I park at 31 st. and walk across the ped. bridge and walk down under the flag. Gregg
-
I'll be at the lower illinois Sat. for the one fly event. Bad weather does'nt bother me or it seems the fish, some of my best days have been when it's lousy out. Gregg
-
I use an 8 wt, 6 wt would be the minimum I would go with, there are some big carp which will occasionally take a clouser, and some nice stripers and hybreds which run you all over the river. You never really know what you might hook up with, striper, hybreds, sand bass, largemouth, smallmouth, catfish, sauger, carp, gar, spoonbill, I think thats what makes it a great fishery. Gregg
-
Deep clousers, sizes #8-2, blue/white, char/white, yellow/white, grey/white, purple/white. Seems like during the colder months the smaller clousers catch more fish. May fish Sunday if the water is off. Gregg
-
wading is very good and easy, a few areas are waist deep, right now the water is quite clear and there are lots of small stripers and some good size sand bass, and other assorted fish. Just take your time moving around in the water there are some ledges and chunk rock in areas. Gregg

I do believe I will be attending this year. Gregg

Homemade River Jon Boat
Hopper replied to Troutguy's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I have built 2 canoes and a driftboat and used epoxy 5050 system, excellent system and the least expensive. I used two layers of 6 oz. fiberglass on the bottom of my drift boat and one layer on my canoes. I took 2 gallons of epoxy for the canoes and 3 for the drift boat. Epoxy5050.com is the web site. (solo was built for my dad) Gregg -
vanish 2 & 4 lb, I have no problem finding it at bass pro in tulsa. Gregg
