  1. FlyfishinOK great report and pics.
  2. Outstanding. Welcome to the dark side. I think we will be there the 12th-15th talk to you then.
  3. Joe I use dunn for most but I have used grizzly, ginger and of course the brown/grizzly for the Adams.
  4. I would say "and Patrick" but then I'm not sure how I would get to the three legged mule. Justin is there an alternate route?
  5. Eric I'm going to be there that weekend if the water is low enough lets have a beer.
  6. Nice Zonker. Love the pic with the casual wave going down the falls I am always puckered going down them in my drifter. Hopefully I run into you some day on the river I would love to get a close up look at those rafts they seem pretty cool.
  7. Wind can be a big issue in a drifter on low water it can darned near blow you upstream so keep that in mind. Where I would float would probably depend on where you are staying or where you plan on watching the game. If you need to be in the Cotter/Mtn Home area I would probably do White hole to Wildcat. If you are staying at some place down by the dam(Gaston's, Copper Johns) I would find a short float down in that area I'm not sure what the best one would be hopefully someone with more knowledge of that part of the river can chime in. The way the accesses are spread out you will be pushing it to get done in 4 hours if the water is low I would keep it at 4 miles or less.
  8. Bill is the man. Your vehicle will be where you want it when you want it and if you are dumb enough to leave your cigars in your truck he will even sometimes meet you somewhere halfway to get them to you. His card is at Dally's with his numbers and rates on the back.
  9. Completely depends on the flows. What can take 4 hours one day can take 12 hours the next on the White. If the water is off just wade fish at the accesses and then go watch the game. If they are running water go to Dally's and see what the guys in the shop suggest for a float to get you where you want to be.
  10. The Alaska burger was 1lb of pure heaven. I owe you a beer for rowing me to victory. Chance count us in for the 25th/26th.
  11. Yeah it was tough Saturday we managed one fish. We had a blast Friday Justin. Chance great meeting you guys. Let your crew know they are not half as ugly in pictures as they are in real life. Look forward to doing it again sometime.
  12. Simms Freestones are all I have ever owned. Just got my new pair with the vibrams and I like them as much as my old ones. They are hard to beat for support, comfort and durability.
  13. Agreed. I know I do it and I have read plenty of reports of others doing the same.
  14. Sounds like a lose/lose to me Chief. Eric and Ness make some great points. If you decide to fight you can count me in for a donation. Good luck.
  15. The organazations could put a max on hooks say five or four or abide by state laws when it is less than the max allowed. The interesting question is should you be allowed to have hookless baits on the rig in addition to the ones with hooks. Talking to friends who are big into the tournament scene here in Okie it should be pretty interesting. They say the winning weights in the winter jackpots have gone up 8lbs since December and if Alabama rigs stay legal here they will be fishing them darn near 100% of the time this year. They also stated they rather fish in tourneys that they are banned in but they made no mention of boycotting tourneys where they are not. One did say he heard the GRDA was considering trying to get a ban on these things that would be interesting if the biggest tourney lake in Oklahoma bans these things and the rest doesn't. The other interesting thing is to see what effect this has on these lakes after a season of this when 200 boats a weekend are catching 20 or 30bass instead of 8 or 9 or whatever they catch nowon lakes like Grand Table Rock etc. Again I have no dog in the fight but this rig has caused quite a mess.
  16. My understanding and I could be completely wrong is bass only banned this at its highest trail(elite series?) CS the petition probably won't carry much weight with the orginizations that run these tournaments but I'm sure an uprising from their pro anglers and sponsors would. Also are these organazations going to avoid the states that ban this rig? Are the majority of the sponsors for or against this thing? What about the pro anglers fishing? I don't tournament bass fish and these rigs are legal in my state(Oklahoma) but if I did I would find a trail that banned these if for no other reason than closness in gap between everyone in the tournament. If everyone is catching limits on these things and the difference between 1st and 20th is a pound at every weigh in that sounds pretty boring.
  17. I felt dirty.
  18. Good stuff Jeff. They have shut the water off on our last two trips to the White(I thought I was the only one with that type of luck). The NFOW did save the day for us on the last trip. The dam to Cotter had to be a death march on no generation in a drifter.
  19. Toons are very stable, easy to get in and out of and easier to haul around(I just throw mine in the bed of my pick up) than most yaks or canoes but I much rather paddle, fish from and haul gear in a canoe or yak. If I was in the market for a fly fishing yak I would have a hard time deciding between a Native ultimate, the Jackson Coosa or its big brother I think its called the Cuda and the Diablo kayak.
  20. Nice fly. Its rare that you will ever have to go smaller than 20 I can't remember the last time I fished anything smaller than an 18 on top. Griffiths gnat is a must have and easy tie next would be a stimulator, elk hair caddis and parachutes in a variety of colors. The parachute was the toughest for me I finish the fly on the post I think it makes a much cleaner fly and proportions are pretty important on them. Besides that learn to stack and tie in elk hair and there isn't anything difficult about any of the flies listed. Good luck.
  21. Get whatever matches your 5 weight. I use a 6 weight and a 200 grain line when pond hopping or lake fishing. Like laker said things drop fast in still water so its really more important to get a line to match the rod you want to use than worrying about the sink rate. FWIW if you can go with a heavier rod you can throw bigger flies if you choose. Instead of a new reel I just go with spare spools I have floaters and sinkers in 6-8 weights.
  22. Eric it was great to meet you guys this weekend. Good luck with the boat search if you decide to get one and feel free to pm me if you have any questions. Thats a great rainbow below Blair I was wondering if you guys would have enough daylight to finish your float.
  23. We hooked and managed to lose a really big fish out of that hole right under the tree thats trunk angles out over the river this fall but it was pouring rain and very cloudy. I would guess with sunlight you would need some pretty big flows and that green color to the water to sneak up on anything there it makes Bree's catch even more impressive mixed in with Justin's ninja rowing skills.
  24. Outstanding. Congrats Bree!
