  1. Well... you can almost count on there being generation with things being the way they've been recently. Just look in the taney subforum for generation charts or go to http://www.swpa.gov/generationschedules.aspx
  2. I will say this about Bear...he has a strong stomach. Not only did he drink the elephant pee, I saw another episode (same one where he slept in the washed out gully w/ iminent storms) where he drank his own pee without purifying it in any way. He said that so long as you drink it while it is still warm before it goes stale, you'll be okay. My question is, who was the guy who figured that out, and how did it happen? Wow, we've really gotten way off topic here...from deadliest catch to the drinking of elephant pee...
  3. Have you thought about just using a pair of wading boots? Bass pro has them for about the same prices as those sandals you mentioned.
  4. I've always found that swimming a 3 inch grub, crawdad imitations and beetlespins were all you need to catch goggle eye. Most of the time I catch them near structure like boulders or tree roots at the edge of the river.
  5. Here's a solution I found for stickbaits in an old Field and Stream a couple of years ago that I've used on quite a few of my trout jerkbaits: First, I take wire cutters to the front treble and snip off the rear hook, then I use pliers to smash down the remaining two barbs. Then, I take off the rear treble completely, and replace it with a single point hook. On most of these baits, I go ahead and tie in a marabou tail before I put the hook on. By smashing the barbs down and replacing the unnecessary hook points, I've found that you reduce foul hooking and damage to the fish itself, without losing any effectiveness. In fact, I think that the marabou tail adds a little more attraction
  6. What a shame... just comes to show that you can never be to careful out on the water, especially in the last couple of weeks, with water being as fast as it has been.
  7. Go to http://www.itinerantangler.com/podcasts/20...onely.html#more It's a pretty helpful article, and an over all good site too.
  8. I know a lot of nymphs work well for carp, I've heard that the Hare's Ear is especially effective. Last time I was on the cabela's website, I did notice that they carried a box of assorted flies made just for carp.
  9. If they end up doing any good, you should post a pic or two...
  10. Hopefully there won't be enough rain on thursday/friday to cause to much trouble for you guys down there...
  11. I myself cant wait to pull in a few cats myself... I've found it best to spend the morning and afternoon fishing for little bluegills and such with either worms, and then use all of the little ones you catch as bait for your juglines.
  12. Maybe we can get some of those below the dam and train them to swoop down and take out shufflers...
  13. You might try down by where the finley flows into the james, ive always had luck down there.
  14. Almost forgot, but if you drive down to rivercut golf course, the part of the james that flows by the parking lot is great for some smallmouth and lots of goggle eye and bluegills.
  15. Decided to hit the pond off fremont after school today with my fly rod, and quickly found out how skittish the fish were. I managed to pull in five small bluegill with an olive wooly bugger and a little hairwing streamer I came up with a couple months ago. After I got tired of fighting the wind and the spooking fish, I went across the road to burrell but never made a cast because all I saw in it were a bunch of those jumbo goldfish. Anyways, i may go back to the fremont pond tommorow with some worms or something, maybe that will help get them less spooky. Ill probably still bring the flyrod to mess around with, maybe the wind or something made them scare easier today. I did see a HUGE snapping turtle over there though.
  16. Don't quote me on this, but I think they banned fishing in most of the city park ponds...
  17. Thanks Web...not a bad video, turns out I think i've actually been using some of those casts already and didn't even know it.
  18. I'll have to try that shooting line, but i think that the spey rod may have to wait awhile... I'd sure like to try it though
  19. Michael- Can you spey cast with a one handed rod, or do you have to get one of the specialty rods? Zach
  20. Couldn't agree more. The only decent places I saw on Sunday were by Outlet 2 and by wading at 1, and at one, you could only do it if you roll casted. The worst part was setting the hook, if your timing was off, then you'd end up in the trees above. Must've lost a dozen flies up there between me and the guy I was with. Despite that, the fishing was good... just be prepared to have lots of extra flies and leaders.
  21. What do you call that big white looking one you were throwing for a while?
  22. We were at one, wading on the side closest to the dam. I think we were there from noon to 5.
  23. I'll second that...Went down today (sunday) and ended up catching 19, with most of them being pretty decent size. The other guy I was with did about the same, I think he got 17 or something like that. Dark Brown Scuds and Hare's Ears were the ticket for me today. Zach
