Last spring a friend of mine took me out to a river that was just barely east of Bolivar, There was some fairly decent smallmouth fishing, as well as bluegill. I've been wanting to fly fish over there, but can't remember it's name. I believe we parked at an MDC access. Any help???

I believe that the general law in missouri is that if the stream in question is considered a public fishing stream that access is automatically granted to float it, and portage over land below the high water mark. I read all this in the MDC's Paddlers guide to Missouri. They say that access is allowed only from public bridges, highway right of ways, and state/national properties. According to the book these laws were tested in a 1950's Missouri supreme court test case

Don't know if anyone picked up on this, but Outdoor Life magazine just named Mountain Home AR. the number 1 place to live for sportsmen.

I know what you mean.... about a month ago I was below the dam and these 3 kids about 14-17 years old tried to run off with the extra rod I had sitting on the bank about ten yards behind me. I stopped them before they got away, but when they came back to leave they started throwing rocks down into the hole we were fishing and were cussing us out. I took off my vest off and put down my rod and then started walking up the bank and then they ran off. Absolutely ridiculous....I know that it's a public water way, but if your just going to screw around...just take it somewere else.

I'd just like to say thanks for putting on such a great event. I personally learned a lot, and can't wait to give white bass a try. Zach Smith

I've actually caught a couple of those on accident too, on the upper part of the James river. Not really sure what they are

First Attempt - Prototype Fly
zsmith62 replied to Terry Beeson's topic in Fly Tying Discussions & Entymology
Not too shabby, you might try a thicker thread for the segmenting, or somehow making the tail thicker and then segmenting it even tighter... of course i've never tried any extended body patterns so I don't know if you tied the tail in first and then you used a separate piece for the body. If it is one piece, you might be able to use a longer piece and then double it over, tying it in over where you first did, segment it and then cut the part where it got folded at the end so it will flare out. Not sure if that works or even makes sense, but thats just how I pictured doing it. -
Five years ago, I went to bass pro and picked up a 6 wt. hobbs creek combo outfit. That was my first fly rod, and have only bought one more (Sage) that I use for bass. I've never had a single problem with the rod or reel, and I've bounced that thing off of blacktop, gravel, you name it and still no damage. The line is surprisingly good too, It lasted for four seasons before I retired it to backup status. Most of my buddies bought bps rods too, simply because they are easy on the wallet. None of them have had any issues, and I've casted them all, with no quibbles. One of them has a classic, another has a dogwood canyon, and one even has an indian point model, and they are all excellent rods for the money. I may not have much experience with anything other than the white river models or the sage, I have yet to find a reason to change.

I can't wait to get out, turkey hunting normally brings a nice change of pace. Typically I go out by the Walnut Grove/Greenfield area, a buddy of mine has a farm out there, but there is tons of public land by stockton lake. Lots of birds in that general area. I've also hunted down by tablerock, but the people who owned that land sold it... I think this may be the year I decide to break out the bow and see if I can't get one that way, should be interesting.

Yeah thanks.

I was messing around with my settings this afternoon and was experimenting with the skin settings. After I was done I tried to change back to the original mode, but I couldn't find the menu to change it back to the way it was. The only way I can see the one I like is if I log off, but if I log back on, it goes back to the skin I don't like. I'm sure it will end up being something obvious, but I looked everywhere I could. Can someone tell me how to straighten things out?

As long as you've got a boat.

Out of curiosity.... How will the gates being open effect the lake bottom after the water recedes? Will any of the gravel wash away?

If (or When) This Generation Stops By The Weekend....
zsmith62 replied to duckkilla's topic in Upper Lake Taneycomo
With all the rain we're gonna be getting in the next day or two, I wouldn't be surprised if the water will still be up... Without a boat, you should be able to get in at outlets 1 and 2. San Juan worms are always a good bet when the water is up, so are glo-balls as well as scuds. Beadheads on the worms are a good idea, if not just add a split shot about six inches above your fly, and just set your indicator for whatever depth your fishing. Use a 9' leader so you can get enough depth if you need it. Realistically, all of the typical midges, nymphs and soft hackles work, all that is different is the depth, you just need to be flexible -

Gonna be camping down at RR wednesday, so tied up some beetles too, I do them the same way, but I dub in some peacock black ice dub under the foam.

I'd have to agree with jd on matters of durability, particuarly about how fast it fades even when using that detergent for camo (supposed to reduce fading). However, I've also noticed that some of that walmart brand camo looks an awful lot like that new AP pattern from Realtree.

loo10- Perhaps the reason why the fish don't hit the Salmos is because the wobble on the lure may be too aggressive. Just a theory...or an excuse for me to experiment for myself...

Found a couple lures imitating sculpins for all you spin-fisherman. I actually bought the first one at cabelas about a year ago, but haven't thrown it out yet. They might be worth a try, I've never really heard of any one using them but they look pretty convincing. This one's called the Salmo Bullhead, you can get them from cabela's, they run for $7.99. This is the Storm Wildeye Live goby. I know you can't use it in the trophy area but might be good below it. Costs $3.99 at Bass Pro. These are the Jewel Sculpin Hypertails, Can't use it in the trophy area either, costs $2.79 as BPS. Anyways, thought I'd show these to everyone, might be worth a lot of fun on a spinning rod.

The wallpaper feature is great too! ...I just can't choose which one!

Excellent site... I really like the random fly recipes feature and the overall picture quality is good

WebFreeman isn't the only one who heard about shorty's gettin closed in Springfield for food poisoning.... my mother who works in the restaurant business in springfield had heard the same thing.

I'm not really sure, I'll be out of another guy's boat that we tow from his farm near Walnut Grove. I'd like to go after bass, but would enjoy bluegill just the same

yeah, it'll probably be around the Sac river arm
