  1. Did you catch any Small Jaws?
  2. Have you thought about a fiberglass repair kit for a boat or tub/shower. I would think the resin would be similar.
  3. I posted that I was in a few days ago, but I am not listed. Please add to the list. I will be tying a Deer hair and turkey quill caddis. Kickn'
  4. Count me in. When is the due date? And how many?
  5. Look up Woodson K Woods Memerial Conservation area on the MDC website. The accesses are from a gravel road off KK in Crawford Co. 44 west to ZZ east to KK west to gravel road?? You will go down the road untill it turns private. This will be suicide. You will pass a parking lot (wide spot in the road) prior to this location that's cardiac. I'd go to Bennett. The access is easier.
  6. John, your too modest.
  7. Wow...... A couple of great post Al. I agree with most all of what you have stated. The 12" min 6 fish limit on the majority of streams is a joke. We have some of the best stream SMB fishing in the the country and should promote and protect the resource better as a state. I would like to the streams managed much more like the trout streams to allow the SMB to grow to the sizes that they are capable. I think the MDC's regs on the trophey SMB waters have been fairly successful and should be used on most if not all SMB streams. I do agree that a slot limit may be a better tool than a minimum limit. The one stream that is near and dear to my heart is the Current river. I spend most of my SMB fishing on this stream. It has great fishing, but the size of the fish are not what the could be. I have sent several emails to the MDC and visited a couple of the meeting for the ONSR promoting the idea of a trophey section on the Current. This is Missouri's jewel but when it comes to fishing regs. It is just another stream nothing special. I enjoy gigging, and would not like to see the sport illimated, but I agree that in some streams, the Sept 15 - Jan 15 time frame puts a strain on the resource. The old time frame of Oct 1 - Dec 15 was plenty of time to gig. Thanks for your post.
  8. Yea maybe... But I think the fishing is better.
  9. Al, Just a technical note. The minimum regs for the MMA for a SMB is 18" or 3 lbs. This can be found on the MDC website on the 2nd page of the PDF registation form. I love fishing for SMB. The locations that I regularly fish seam to have a little better size fish than say 10 years ago. I'm not sure why, but that is my observations. I fish for SMB about 10 trips per year, and typically catch 2-3 MMA fish annually, but the fish 15+ are caught on most trips. I have'nt been out this year. Turkey season normally starts my SMB fishing. This is my favorite time of year. Spring gobblers and SMB. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/documents/fish/records/fishawrd.pdf
  10. You should think about getting a Petsafe electric containment system. It's the best purchase that I have made since owning dogs. Just plug it in, set the range, coller and train the dogs, and no more wandering.
  11. To say that Bill touched a nerve is an understatment...........
  12. Don't be poking fun at Bill. He was having a bad day.
  13. Here is the message that I get
  14. Come on MTB, Do you really think the tyers didn't give it their best effort, and or sent the worst flies? Your comments may have been well intended, but, not they were not well though out if it wasn't your intention. I have read many of your post in the past and they are extremely informative, helpful, and sincere. From them, I am sure that your intentions were not ill willed, or you were just having a bad day. (we've all been there) This post seemed to be very out of character. By the way, what's wrong with using 3/0 thread on a #20 hook....I get tired of breaking that 8/0 thread. The big stuff is much more durable
  15. I don't know what the problem is, but it won't work for me. I had in listed in my favorites, and it used to work, but not now. I'll keep trying. Thanks.
  16. Phill, I've have not been able to get on Ozark Hunters. Is the site down? I tried clicking on the icon on this site w/o luck.
  17. I believe that your position is some what elitist. (not trying to offend) Most of the folks on the forum are amateur fisherman and amateur tiers. The tiers are at all differant skill levels, and are in the swap to improve their skills and knowledge of the sport and hobby. Some of the flies aren't pretty, (those would be mine) Others would be work's of art, (those would be Dano's) All of the flies will catch fish with the right presentation at the right time. Remember the amateur does it for the love of the sport, not to impress or for money. Go easy on us amateurs that spend 50-60 hrs a week working at something other than recreation. Then spend another 20-30 hours with family, coaching kids, church or other volunteer positions. Then when we have a free weekend, we head for the stream to relax or we spend an evening at the tying bench creating the works of art (in the eye of the beholder) that you call junk.
  18. Thanks for the report John. Oh to have fishing like that only 4 blocks from the house. Take care.
  19. I have a Cabela's "Dry-Plus" wading jacket that I have had for 2-3 years. I have fished through some fairly heavy rain storms and it does a nice job. I carry a pair of frog toggs for the emergancies. They work well in a pinch. Not every day gear though.
  20. It's nice to see you reporting again Sam. I've missed your report.
  21. The family figured out late Friday, that we didn't have a kids soccer or basketball game after 7:00 pm Friday evening and decided to take a road trip to Branson. We left STL friday evening after my daughter's BB game and headed for Lebanon. We arrived about midnight, and went straight to bed. I got up in the morning and fished a few hours at bennett springs, and caught several nice fish on various baits. The best being a #16 nymph about 18" under a big dry. I left Bennett about 10:00am, got back to the hotel, cleaned up and headed south. We arrived in Springfield and met for lunch w/ an old college buddy and family. After eating and visiting a while, the wife wanted to visit Fantastic Caverns, so we pointed the rig north, and mashed on the gas. Fantastic Caverns was very interesting. Lots of history of the area, and geology of the formation. At about 4:00, we headed south for Branson. In Branson, we went down to the landing to walk around and find a place for some grub. Bad idea. Too many shops, and not enough dining all the sit down places had a two hour wait....The Charlies steak sandwich was not bad. We did see the fire and water show at 7:00. It was quite impressive. After the landing we headed back to the hotel to take the kids swimming. Sunday morning, at about 7:00 am I went down to Taney, and fished at outlet #2 w/ 3-4 others in high fast water at 4 generators. I did manage to catch 4-5 fish ov various flys. At 9:30, I headed back to the hotel to clean up and head out. The kids whated to catch some fish, so we decided to take the scenic route home and headed across HWY 60 to fish montauk state park. We arrived about 3:00 bought tags for all and headed for the stream. I hooked a fish in the fished few minutes, and handed the rod to my nine year old to fight. He fought the fish for a while and lost it before I could net the fish. He was upset that the fish got away, but had fun w/ the fight. The kids lost interest after a while and after having a snake fall into the water about 10 feet away. They were don't and whated Ice cream. We left about 6:30 and had icecream on the road headed home arriving about 9:00 pm. How's that for a road trip. In less that 48 hours, we fished Bennett Springs, Taney, and Montauk St. Park catching about 30 +/- fish. I told my wife, that next time, we were going to fish all the trout parks and taney in a weekend. Do ya think it can be done? I'm going to bed, I'm pooped.
  22. Well the Smallmouth Bass are off limits due to the season closes in the spring to allow the fish to spawn. The current is loaded w/ sunfish and goggle (rock bass) These will be small, but tasty. Also, if you stop and tightline w/ worms, you can catch a few suckers and drum. The suckers have the lateral bones and need to be scored. Fishing on the current can be spotty this time of year. I would have a back up plan for food. Don't rely on the fish to eat or you may go hungry. This is a beautiful river, you will catch fish, but the fishing isn't quite like northern Minnesota or Onterio, don't expect a shore lunch that includes fish each day.
  23. I haven't fished it since they dredged it last year, but the Crappie fishing can be very good at times during the spawn. I have never targeted carp, and have caught some bass, but not many. Good luck and give a report.
  24. I got mine a week ago. Thanks Leonard for all of your effort. Good job guys, the flies look great.
