As I've been crappie fishing I've noticed several people throwing the A-rig. As a matter of fact, everyone I see bass fishing is throwing the A-rig. What are your thoughts? For those who have been using it how do you like it. I know there has been a big debate over whether it should be legal or not, however in MO you can only use three hooks. Most are running three baits with two spinners or two baits wtih no hooks. Share your thoughts. Brad

Great job! I need to get back on the water. Brad

Every once in a while I take a scouting trip - no woods involved, not looking for that secret hiding place for the trophy buck or a giant gobbler - just to the lake. Consistency is a jewel, it's what seperates average anglers from good anglers, I'm by no means a good angler - just one that loves to fish. From my observations of the old timers, the ones who always seem to catch fish regardless the time of year or weather, they know several locations to fish. When an older gentleman can tell you the number of trees or brush piles down a certain stretch of bank on any arm of the lake it's time to listen up. I decided to venture out the last year and take some scouting trips, run the humminbird side immaging over new territory. When I find something that looks good I'll mark it on the gps, stop and fish for a little while. Some trips have been great, others no so. However I find it exciting to locate a new brush pile or underwater row of trees and start catching fish. Knowledge is king and trying to increase it will help anybody's stringer. The last two week's I've decided to take advantage of the unusally warm winter and beautiful sunshine. Yesterday was one of those special days, record high, no wind - even had to shed the jacket a time or two. Fortunate to mark nine new brush piles, some of which were red hot. Here's the scoop: Brush Piles 20-40 feet deep. Crappie in the top of the brush (16-26 feet deep). Jigs only - white, blue, blue/chart, black/chart, motor oil. Caught a limit of quality fish plus several just shy of the length limit. I've been working an area I've never fished much and starting to really enjoy it. Fished mostly from the dam down the first four or five miles of the Lindly arm. Good luck to all and hope to see you on the water! Brad

Didn't fish Pomme this weekend, must confess went to Stockton. A friend of mind fished in the dam area yesterday and did real well - don't know all the particulars but black/chart jig and brush piles. Brad

Took off at lunch and headed to the water. Put in at Bolivar Landing and caught two limits in 3.5 hrs. Threw back 50-60 shorts - they were hungry!!!! Caught fish on jigs - blue & pink. Fished channel edges 20-25 fow, just off bottom. Brad

I've been doing a lot of winter fishing, however it's been mostly on Stockton. I'm fishing the winter crappie series over there and figure when I go it might as well be in prep for the tourneys. I'm headed to Pomme in just a few minutes, will post today or tomorrow how it goes. The last trip to Pomme was the day after Thanksgiving and it was phenomenal! Brad
-
Not many people carry them anymore. For Bolivar Landing you are pretty much out of luck - For Pittsburg Landing you can head to Pittsburg and get them at Pomme De Terre Outfitters or Nemo and pick them up at the gas station. Brad
-
Know what you mean, wish we could get more people on the Pomme board! Although most are like I, they've been looking for Mr Bighorns. Brad

After taking waaaaay too much time in the woods thought I would head back to the water. The wind was pretty bad but we made do and I'm glad we did! Two of us caught our limits in 2.5 hrs. The bite was consistent, although pretty light, and several dinks were given the opportunity to "swim towards the light", but they had a story to tell their friends when they got back to the brush. All fish were caught on jigs - pink, white and blue. Fished in 15-20 fow, all fish were caught just off the bottom on a channel swing. Brad
-
You've got the fall pattern under control. I would start with shallow cranks on flats with stumps, also throw a spinner bait in the same area. However don't forget to pitch a jig or creature bait from time to time. Brad

I finally made it back - what an awesome trip!!!! I didn't get to shoot any, although I saw several elk, moose, antelope and mulies, just couldn't get the Elk in stop long enough to release an arrrow. Not sure about the current fishing report, will find out Saturday as I fish a tournament. However Pomme is a great lake to fish in October - what do you need help with - crappie or bass? Look for an updated crappie report after Saturday's tournament. Brad

Had the opportunity to fish Pomme on Thursday evening and again Saturday. The crappie bite was excellent and we caught several quality fish. The bite was consistent and the same both trips. Fish were on the brush piles in 15-18 fow. There were some fish suspended above the brush which were picked off with a pitch and drift technique. Others were down in the brush, dangle the jig, bump a limb and then set the hook! Also found fish on standing timber, however the bite was a little slower and the quality of was as good for us. However Pomme King and his wife found the good fish on the trees! Congrats to them on winning the tourney Saturday - 49 boats and they claimed the title two years in a row! I had a great partner this week as I fished with Dongotto - can you believe we were able to pry him off Stockton for a couple trips! All fish were caught on jigs - glow chart, white pepper, blue/silver, gray chart, blue chart. Headed out to Colorado this week to kill a big one, have fun catch the slabs while I'm gone. Brad

Took a few days off to hit the campground and water. Had a rough start, before even making it to the water, but things work out great. Boat is in the shop, no biggie just grab dads and go. His is now on the way to the shop! Couldn't get it to run so starting looking for a place to launch where I could fish with just the trolling motor. A few detours, wrong turns and backing down the gravel road, more than once, we found a place to put in. Launch in the middle of a cove with standing timber, fished around the timber within a couple hundred yards of the truck. Fished all new territory, hard to make yourself do, but hey it's better than not fishing! Here's the report: Monday: Absolutely slayed the crappie. It was rare to fish a tree and not get a bite. Great time! Tuesday: Who flipped the switch? Struggled, struggled, did I mention we struggled? Fished hard and only caught four, the fish did not even bite. Wednesday: Thankfully someone flipped the switch back on - repeat of Monday! Caught fish everywhere. Bait: Jigs (pink, blue, anything with chart.) Technique: Pitched jigs around timber, vertical fished timber Water temp, depth, etc... ??? Don't know, didn't have a working graph. It's amazing how much I've come to rely on my humminbird graph, just about drove me crazy for three days. Good luck! Brad

Hey Bob, How old are the kids you've been using? Where do you find them, ebay or something?? Brad -
I fish over there all the time, only see a floater occasionally. Not sure what's up? Brad

Went crappie fishing yesterday evening and couldn't hardly keep the whites off. Fished points and flats in the Master's area. Caught several under lights off a deep point on jigs, also trolling the edge of a flat with flicker shad and 300 series bandits in 20-22 fow. Good luck, Brad
