  1. I wanted to do a small writeup on Maramec Springs. This has been the only place I've been able to fish for trout this last year. Everyone seemed to catch close to or their limit. There were families filling coolers with stock trout. Of course, power bait is the bait everyone uses. (I know that isn't true, but it sure does seem like it.) I guess that is why people don't post on here about the great trout they landed like they do on the tanneycomo forum, but there are some good trout swimming there. Saturday an eleven year old boy caught over a 6 pounder. The look on his face was priceless. I did so-so. Had a hook up on a black wooly bugger, and some strikes on a small streamer. I went back Sunday and again people were pulling trout out like clock work. One young man caught two trout over 5 pounds. When I asked what he was using(he had spinning rod) he said that he was using some kind of small fly that had gold in it. One fly fisher when asked how many he had caught, told the fellow that he had four and yet he fished on. Maybe I was wrong and he was catch and releasing. I saw one boy four or five year old reeling in a fish. He was doing a fine job. His father came and netted it for him. When I walked by them, he said, I caught a trout. The pride in his voice echoed in his fathers smile. I remember myself as a four or five year old catching my first bluegill at Lake of Ozarks. I won't be back until the Women fish free day in September but Maramec Springs is just a nice little park. Go visit if you can.
  2. Praying for all of those who have suffered any loss from storm.
  3. A couple years ago I was talking to guy on the dock at Lilleys. He and his wife used cowbells to catch trout. They bought them at Cablela's. They thought they worked. Maybe last winter I remember the guy looking for a guide to help them fish the taney. I hope they are both out there catching trout. I know I wish I was.
  4. I stayed at Lilley's this May. I saw a lot of people some of them children boating full blast without PFDs. I had a hard time fishing and keeping mine on (vest style) so when I came home I went to BPS and bought an inflatable. It is like not wearing a vest. I forget I have it on. I fish from my john boat and was thinking about fixing a loop that I could use to get back in. Thank you for being there for these guys.
  5. I've bought size eight red circle hooks at lilley's. I use them to fish for bluegill with red worms, and for trout I've put one floating powerbait ball and one half of night crawler. YMMV
  6. Oh, if it was a Rainbow, it was a good disguise --cause I let it go. Well, I guess I have to still catch my first Brown. Well--maybe in August.
  7. I will try to jig in August. I bought some jigs and I tied a few, but the trout were hitting the worms and why mess with what is working?? Fog on the river. Here's a picture of boat fishing. I caught nice brown. About 14" long. First Brown. Also got a nice rainbow. About 15". Great time.
  8. I was down at Lilley's last week. Fishing for me was the best it's been in three years. I am a trout wantabee. This trip I drift floated Fall to Short creek many times, caught most of the fish in that section--and the only brown. I drifted down to monkey island one day and caught fish all the way down. The only bait I used was nightcrawler with a powerbait ball to get it to float. I had a great time. I stayed at Lilley's and the people there are outstanding. I am now back to catching bluegill and channel cats for the summer, but I'm looking forward to trip back to the Tanney in August. Marion
  9. Why didn't you try the spring area? Is it flooded?
  10. I was at Montauk a couple years ago when a few minutes after the morning horn two people on different sides of the river caught the same trout. They were shouting back and forth "No, you can keep it." Finally the man on the park side of the river netted the fish and the woman on the other side got her spinner back.
  11. I'm pretty well set with PTs and small beadheads. I'll pick up some smaller hooks Saturday when I go to Cabela's. Thanks. Marion
  12. Thanks. I'll get started on the leeches. Is size 10 okay?
  13. I'm going to Montauk next week. I have a few hoppers tied up. Any hot nymphs? or drys? I will start fishing the springs and then work my way down into the park. I want to float down the river one day. Any help will be appreciated. Thanks.
  14. Hello, I would like to know the difference between circle hooks and octopus hooks. I get size 8 circle hooks and have great hookups on bluegills and when I use octopus hooks, it seems that they take down the whole hook. Thanks, Marion
