  1. I was bass fishing with a 3" green and yellow bass popper with two big trebble hooks. I thought I had a realy nice bass. I was very shocked when I lifed out a perch.
  2. Caught in a family farm pond. I think he could break the 3lb state record in a couple of years Picture does not do him justice. I weighed him then threw him back
  3. I have AN 835 and I love it. For a time I was about to thow it away though. I bought the tightest choke that hastings made for it and had the same results that you did. I ask some guys about it (after I had spent 50 dollars on the choke and 50 dollars on different shells) and they told me that my choke was to tight. Sounded funny to me but I tried the double x that mosberg recomends for that gun and I went from about 15 pellets in a turkey head at 30 yards to 66 using 3.5" winchester #5s. the hasting choke was a .675 and the Mosberg was a .690. did the trick for me. GOOD LUCK
  4. The most rewarding hunt I have ever been on was when I took my nephue during Youth season and he shot a bearded hen. I told him that was a real trophy because they are rare. I can't wailt till my boys are old enough. they are 3 and 1. It was better than any turkey that I shot myself.
  5. I don't know if you are downplaying a fish caugt in the c&r but they are the smartest trout I have ever fished for and you have to be concious about tippit size and natural feeding. They know how to eat other things in there than brown food pellets. If anyone with a hook could catch them they would all be gone because people that don't care would sneak them out. Size of the water does not determine the quailty of fish or the skill needed the catch them. Any time you land a brown over 20" let alone 32" on a 4wt or less rod with 2lb tippit you should thank the good Lord that He let you get it done.
  6. I caught them on a tan scud #16. I got away with the bigger fly because the water was murky and up. The fish were realy feeding and the tan scud was doing the trick. I caught about 15 fish in the c&r and for me that is a lot in there. I usually fool some of them but not that many at one time. they are very experienced fly eaters in there.
  7. How much do you think he weighed?
  8. ekl-stl you called the 33" fish a "she". Have you seen or caught a male in there that long.
  9. They may not be 32 inches but they made for a good day at the park with a fly rod. Camera Phone is better than nothing. The Brown was 23 inches and the Rainbow was 22 inches.
  10. I just looked at reeds cabin's site and they said that people are fishing and the water is back in it's banks, but the camp ground will be closed till Friday.
  11. officially we could not "make" anyone leave so as soon as the waters went down some people went back. the campground was in terrible shape but if they wanted to put up with it they could camp. People were fishing again that evening. In 98 it took about 2 hours to crest and went down even faster. but this year might be different given that water tables are maxed out and this is more than just rain run off, ground water is at the serface everywhere.
  12. After the flood waters went down in 98 we were hand fishing trout out of the ditches in the campground and throwing them back into the river it became kind of fun and turned into sort of a competition. we even pulled a cat fish out of one of the culverts. the crows feasted on the crawdeads for hours. took us 3 weeks to clean up most of the park. I loved that job but I was hired through a temp program.
  13. They have a real serious levi aroud the main rearing pools that should cause the flood water to flow around the parking lots first. I worked for the dnr at Montauk in 98 and it flooded well over the 119 bridge and never came close to the main rearing pools or the lodge but coverd everything else. the old timers said that it never had flooded the lodge but trapped people in it in 93. this one could be worse though.
  14. The one that I caught in 04 was a large male with a hooked jaw. He also was very tired after the fight so I did not take much time to admire him. my measurement might be off one way or the other. Didn't matter about that still the fish of my life, to date. can't wait to see your photo.
  15. This has probably been asked before but I did not see it in the topics. What kind of Pike are those found at the trout parks? Montaouk has several that have to be over 4lbs. should be fun on a fly rod.
  16. now that you say that i quess so.
  17. I"m not being arguminitive but that's not realy accurate. I actualy went today and caught a rainbow in the c&r that was at least 4lbs. I caught it on a tan scud #16. It put up a realy strong fight. beautiful hooked Jaw male. I seen a brown below the shute that was about 6lbs. but he spooked and went back under the cut bank. I have always caught big fish in there. no one can kill them. pretty wonderful thing---c&r all year.
  18. There has been a Huge Brown in the C&R zone for a few years. I caught him back in 04 or 05 and he measured 32" we estimate him to be 14 or 15 pounds. He usually hangs out under the shute but sometimes drifts back into leagle fishing. I was wondering if anyone else has caught this fish and got a picture. I did not get one. I would love to have a picture of the fish even if someone else is holding it, just to show people who think I'm crazy. Caught him on a 4wt rod and a squirl nymph. Fish of my life.
  19. I have grown up fishing Montauk and it is my favorite Park. You can always get away from people if you are willing to walk. Most people are to lazy to fish a hole a hundred yards from a parking lot. I have caught some of my biggest fish wading past the campground and checking every bolder and rootwad before I get to close to spook the fish. Once you get below the pooled bait holes the water is great for fly fishing. Big wild Browns all through that strech and most people walk right by them. well they may have been stocked but there were 10 inches at the time. I have cought them up to 26 inches while still inside the park. If you want privacy try fishing below the park at day break. Even if you dont catch anything the "Current" is an awsome site when the day begins and the water is rippled with noses breaking the surface.. Good Fishin and enjoy the trip.
  20. fish or no fish, a day out in God's creation is better than any day stuck at the house or "walmart"
  21. The Drive Wed. morning was beuitful. There was plenty of snow from Farmington on until just about a mile from the park where it just about vanished. Fishing seemed a little harder than normal. We caught a few and I lost one about 7 are 8 pounds. "I did not feel like carrying him around any whay" ha ha ha. The stockers faught a lot harder than they usually do so they were all a lot of fun. Any day fishing is a good one.
  22. Fly fishing outside the park can be an incredible experiance. I love to fish it all year, but in mid summer if you are in the water at day break and have some dries #22 or smaller you will have a blast. #24 griffis nat is my choice. can be a real bear to try if you not used to tying that small. After they stop rising I usually turn to a fox squirl nymph #16 OR #18. I always wear cammo or dark close when fishing down there. if your carful and go slow you can walk up in sight fishing distance of some real monster browns. Some double digit fish and many above 5Lbs. If fishing in the park try walking from the bridge above the campground to the end of the park, you would be suprised what most fisherman just walk by. always look at the fish's tail. if heavily forked ,not a brown but a big sucker. I have waisted a few hours fishing for Huge suckers. The browns tail will be very square or even rounded out. Good luck, walk slow and check every rock, rootwad, and under cut bank. he's in there.
  23. My son Nate is 10 months old and you would never think that anything was wrong with him, but he was born with some kidney trouble. He recently had a test to find out if he had some blockage in his uranary track. we are waiting for the results. Pleas keep him in your prayers.
