Anchoring A River Boat?
bclift65706 replied to Dumb to fishing's topic in Tips & Tricks, Boat Help and Product Review
I use concrete anchors I make they dont hang up to bad and if you cut the rope no big loss. in swift water and tie up high to a tree or something never had any problems like that. but I did learn the hard way about drifting with an anchor luckeley it happend in about 4 ft water on the osage fork and not in a big river . was a good learning experience but not a fun one. -

I have been in the lake a few times heard it was good but iI never had mutch luck in the lake just never put my time in to learn it most of the lake is real shallow 4 ft range the rest is full of stumps a real hazard for a prop moter. I fish a the bottom of the spillway and always do good with crappi bass catfish few walleye I like it there because you never know what your next hook set will bring. I was using all bluegill after dark the channel cat came with chicken liver. Went back lastnight no flatheads and alot of heavey rain and lightning went out at daylight and cought some channelcats on chicken liver. I may go to the gasconade see if any flatheads are home tonight.

I dont know any thing about a Legand Craft I have a Blazer it is a great boat my next boat will be a blazer.Call Rob at SHALLOW WATER OUTFITTERS in Springfield 417-881-8363 be sure to call him first he may not be in his office. he will set the boat up however you want with livewells, seating, stick steer, stering wheel ,side console ,center console ,tiller just about anyway you want it. I am thinking about selling my 1648 center console and getting a 1856 havent made up my mind yet. -

Fished at the bottem of the spillway friday not alot of luck but did catch 1 flathead. went back saturday took the boat and threw out some jugs way on the otherside of the river so they would not interfear with anyone fishing from the bank. My brother cought some real nice channel cats and when it got dark we launched out 5 in bluegill on long rods and around 10:30 my brother had a good hit and set the hook it was a 30 to 40 lb flathead got it 3 feet from the bank and broke 30#test line and swam away we stood on the bank looking sad. at daylight hoped for a monster on the jugs but olny had a 4lb flat and a 10lb channel. the 4lb flat had a 6in blue gill in it when we cleaned it I guess it was hungry to eat the 4in bluegill on our jug too. Flathead bite was not great but the channel cat was good can catch a limit easy if you wanted to.

you have to get a permit and not easy to get. you canot just turn birds into the wild we have a dog training permit that allows us to buy the birds and keep them leagally. If you want to raise birds that is a diffrent permit.I think you can buy chuckers without a permit because they are not native to Missouri. A good fly pen is the key to having good birds not mutch fun to put out birds to hunt and see them walking on the ground and have to chase them to get them to fly then they olny fly about 20ft. BUt anyway back to bigfoot anyone seen him around ?

I have a 16/48 blazer center console the olny thing I would change is going wider the wider boats seem to run in a little shalower in the water with alot of weight in the boat.
-
we leave alot of weeds and brush piles just for the quail we have managed to get 4 coveys of them spread out on 400 acers we buy 100 every year to hunt and leave the wild birds alone for the most part but sometimes they are in the wrong place at the wrong time and kill a few but if 10 wild birds dont come up on the rise no shots are fired. has anyone else ever steped into a covey in the dark? garenteed to make your heart race.
-
I wouldent worry to much just be careful.just throw some jugs out east of the parking lot at Fairfield that is a new flat look for 16 ft water I cought some there saturday night and fish around the trees around the island you dont have to travle far to catch fish. below the dam is not good right now untile the corps start running water.

I have heard alot of strange noises in the woods. I am an avid boe hunter and spring turkey hunter. herd bark flying and some kind of bird dying and alot of growling one morning and the night before heard what sounded like an old lady screaming. dont know what animal makes a noise like that but it will sure make your hair stand up in the dark boath times. but the best one is always walking in the dark and step in a covey of quail that has happed to me lots of times and I almost have to chang my underware every time.

the corps are going to open the high water ramp at shawnee bend the Sterret creek marina website has all of the latest info.

the lake is up big lots of new ground to cover I dont know how high it is going to go the corps are not going to run mutch water untile the missouri river goes down. sunday there was alot of ceader trees and big limbs drifting out on the main lake and olny going to get worse as the water gets higher. there may be another 40 acre log jam at the dam this year like the one last year. Anyone headed to the lake needs to watch for more than just other boats. GOOD LUCK!!!! AND BE CAREFULL lake level is at 725.5 (19.5 feet high)
