  1. btw - thanks to NoLuck late for providing a logical explanation for having your name on your stringer. However, it still seems nuts to me that it would be required. Government run, I suppose.
  2. We just took our annual trip w/ KC friends this past Sun-Wed. Fishing was good w/ flies. I went into zones 2 and 3, and did well with about everything I tried. In zone one, I fished w/ dries (of all variations) and did well, and then TORE EM UP on a size 12 brown scud fished about 3.5 ft under a float. Many of the fish caught this way were more 'trouty' (i.e. they had beautiful color, fought well and jumped often, and had full fins). Fishing right below the falls for each pool was key w/ the scud. I caught a really nice one this way wednesday (in the 2 lb range). The scud worked in zones 1,2, and 3.
  3. Awesome - nothing like good fishing when you take the kids out - OA has been a huge help to me - glad we could help as well!
  4. And to respond late - issuing tickets for having stringers w/out your name and address on them?? Are you out of your skull? You don't have your name on your stringer and someone else takes it, that's your own dumb fault. Save the tickets for the tag-less. <Insert multi-page conversation which ends with people telling me that if I don't like the [government run] trout park regs, I can fish elsewhere>
  5. We actually did, but the numbers of trout were so low that no one thought it was worth our time. My two cents - cameras where I fish - NOT COOL. Part of the fun of fishing is the thrill of the hunt i.e. - keeping 6 fish and trying to outrun the conservation agent. Start adding cameras, and all the sport goes out of it... btw - great conversation
  6. I was wondering if any Bass Pro employees could pm me regarding an annual event to which I am no longer sure of the date of. I'll pm you back. Thanks Brian
  7. I've caught one in the Finley, down from the old mill in Ozark. y'all are right - Grass pickerel - smallest member of the pike family. We had one at Missouri State in an aquarium for a couple of years, but it finally croaked. It was fun to watch it eat though - it would lurk up in the weeds and fly out when you dropped some minnows in the tank. A more vicious strike than the smallmouth I reckon.
  8. Either they are, and no one is saying, they aren't, or no one knows. May have to head down tomorrow am. If it's not worth it though, please let me know!
  9. been gone for a week - are the crappie shallow (catchable off the dock) yet? Thanks Brian
  10. Fished it yesterday - water is a little fast, but fairly clear. It's actually a really pretty shade of deep blue. Wife and I both caught 4 or 5 in an hour and a half - fishing was very fast, and I was trying to use odd stuff that I usually don't use. Turns out, a trout will hit a soft plastic swimming minnow. Left the fly rod at home (by accident, I assure you). I would have loved to get some large scuds down to em though... We kept ours - and perhaps I've been spoiled by Taneycomo trout, but the meat of the trout park fish sure seems soft. It also has a layer of fat close to the skin, which gives it a strong fishey flavor when not cut out. When you fillet, don't go right along the skin - the fish will taste better for it. Coming back the second week of june with friends and fly rods.
  11. if you get the Gulp brand of powereggs, the trout will swallow them rather than gum them for a while and spit them out. I went with some folks who weren't able to feel the bite well, and they did just fine. I love braided line and use it powerbait fishing, but I would tie a loop, and use a two foot section of 4lb line (my preference is Berkely Vanish). Put your weights up in the stronger braided line, and you will keep from fraying the 4lb leader if you use a split shot or sliding weight. this pic is my favorite Taneycomo powerbait rig. Vary the bass weight size depending on current. I don't know if there is a rule or not, but you want to feel it ticking the bottom, w/out getting hung up.
  12. I am partial to a bright pink jighead, with a smoke fleck split curly tail.
  13. good deal - thanks!
  14. Oh yeah - Bill is the "gay bass" guy! I forgot. Watch out, or you'll hook into a wacked out walleye. The creepy crappie are getting ready to spawn as well... but we arent looking for those trashy rough fish are we?
  15. Bulgarian Badger Moccasin. Very dangerous.
  16. Nice Wallys!!! I'd like to release them... breaded, and into a pan of hot grease
  17. My observation has been that a lot of folks who visit the trout parks are people with kids, or folks wanting to just chill and catch fish with minimal effort. By not keeping the #s of trout up, Bssp is discouraging its too main money groups. I'm sure it's not completely devoid of fish, but it doesn't sound like its living up to what a trout park ought to be. Sad - I hope RR isn't following this trend- we got our annual trip planned this year already. May have to rent some boats on Taney instead - Taney is on fire right now.
  18. I've noticed in the bennett forum that people have been commenting (or perhaps griping ) about a lack of fish in the river. Is RR going through the same sort of thing, or are there still plenty in there? A group of us is comin down this June for the annual massacre. Course, it would be nice for the trout following my crickhopper to not run into another fish before he can bite it.
  19. yeah - minnows at fellows marina - they were about $1.50 or so - cant really remember - not outrageous anyway
  20. check craigslist daily - that'll be your best bet. Or a shelter.
  21. That's still a nice brown!
  22. Sounds rough. Real rough We rented a jon boat from lilley sat on short notice, and all four of us caught limits in a couple of hours. Cousins wife had never fished- and she beat us all! We had a blast!! The fishing was pretty good - we caught fish anywhere we stopped. Thanks for everyone who suggested Bull Creek as a good place to catch some smallmouth as well - we got in a couple of hours with 4 or so smallmouth a piece, and a bunch of goggleye. T'was a good Saturday.
  23. Tried Fellows yesterday - caught a couple of crappie and a catfish in about 20ft of water off the bridge. Saw a few other crappie caught- at different depths - As it got darker, a fellow fishing for bass with a worm hooked into a nice muskie right next to the bank - broke him off after a few acrobatics - but it was a decent (probably 30") fish. Also saw a walleye caught on a big jerkbait. We were using minnows.
  24. Appreciate all the advice all!
