  1. Looks like he is buying dinner. There are smallies, bluegill, goggle eye, gar, catfish, and probably a few other misc. species. There are not trout. However, they are plentiful in the Current River.
  2. Its been over two days and this still ticks me off...I'm going down there Wednesday or Thursday and I'm bringin a camera and cell phone. I hope he is dumb enough to still be there.
  3. Well first off I haven't seen the river up here in STL for a couple of days but with the flooding and rain we have been getting I can't imagine low water being a problem. That said, I did fish that stretch of river last summer (or at least very near to it. don't remember for sure). The fishing was ok I thought. There were some stretches where we didn't catch anything and then there would be places where you'd get a bite every cast. I like the Jack's Fork and Current much better but for one day trips it is fun. Just look for deep holes with or near swift current.
  4. Nice job...that kind of stuff really angers me...Even if most are smallmouth, I believe (and correct me if I am wrong) the limit for smallmouth on that section of river is 1.
  5. Thanks for the post...I have been wanting to fish there and every time I here about trips there I just wanna go more.
  6. This is a really great story and worth the read. World-Record Bass Story
  7. What do you guys think is the best light line knot (4lb or less) for non fly-fishing. I personally have always gone between the improved clinch knot and the palomar knot but was wondering if there is anything better. Also what type of line do you use? For the last couple of years I have been using Ultragreen Maxima and like it very much. It is very strong for its diameter, nearly invisible, and I have only had line twist once or twice.
  8. I plan on going to either Bennett or Maramec Springs next week and was wondering what the water clarity is like specifically is it clear enough to sight fish yet. I know it has been a while since the flooding but last time I was at Maramec it looked like the Mississloppy River.
  9. Does anyone use those Rubber-Leg jigs they sell at DJ's or on Troutjig.com? If so, have you had any success on them.
  10. First off, you could go in the water, but no more than about knee or thigh deep. This was because after that you could not see the bottom and because the water was over the sidewalks (and other obstacles), there were drops offs everywhere that you would likely fall in. As far as the spillway, I guess its not really a spillway. That is just what I call it. Anyway, it is that log/rock jam that is in about the middle of the stream right next to those bathrooms. It is also where the sidewalk on the far side of the stream ends, and at the end are some steps. That may very well be what your friend calls the step hole.
  11. The park was flooded this morning. Again. The water was several feet over the far side walk and flooded the parking in some places making impassable early in the morning until it went down. The water was suprising not muddy, but not clear. I would compare it to the lake of the ozarks in mid-summer on the Niangua Arm. My uncle and I did not catch a fish after trying many different lures. Two men across the stream from me (fishing just upstream of the spillway on the far side) were catching a lot of fish using dough bait in the current. We probably could have driven over there, shouldered our way in, and catch some fish, but by the time I realized that the fish were all congregating in that current along the bank there, we were about ready to call it quits. This was the worst trout fishing I have ever experienced. With only more rain to come it is probably not going to get any better, but if you do go, fish DEEP in current. I know people say the fish are sticking to slow moving water in eddy's, but I think that water is TOO warm and the fish like the cooler water in the current.
  12. I am going down on Tuesday and was wondering what the water quality is like down there. Also, are the fish still deep? What is working? or any other tips you can give me would be appreciated.
