  1. Rainbow and Brown trout
  2. I'm going to have a hard time watching a game next year. Of all the Super Bowls I've watched I've never seen a game as badly reffed as that one. When the entire season comes down to one play and there's not an Official review, that is crap. I think it was a fumble but you have to review it. I could care less who won but I want it to be certain.
  3. Trout Stocking Schedule Illinois River: 2009: January 6, 14, 20, 27 (postponed); February 3, 10, 17, 24, 25; March 3, 10, 11, 17, 24, 31; April 7, 14, 21, 28; May 5, 12, 19, 26; June 2, 9, 16, 23, 30. It think this is the updated version. Were going to have lots of trout in the river this spring because of the delays and a few weeks were going to have double.
  4. I don't get this ad.
  5. Reminds me of the storm in NE OK in December of 07. I've never seen anything like that storm, even this storm seems kinda small compared to that.
  6. This is what I do. I like it a whole lot easier than tying a nail knot.
  7. http://maps.google.com/?ie=UTF8&ll=35....645542476909528 This link should show a Google maps street view of the area right before the turn. Driving like your going from Gore to the dam its the new blacktopped road just to the right of the old Phillips sign. Hope this helps and hope the link works.
  8. I was out there today for the first time in a while. Spent most of the day just checking out the river, seeing whats different, and getting my casting arm back. Started up by the dam @ the first turn in. Started with a red San Juan worm that did nothing, then switched to a zebra midge I tied with a little peacock herl right at the head. It was about the only thing I was catching them on consistently on today. After a while I decided it was time to go down stream to Watts, walked around there checking it out. Very easy to find with the new blacktopped road. Then I went down to Marvals to finish the day. Last time I was down there was when the parking lot by the river was under water. Anyway the river flow has changed a bit in some places. Biggest difference I could see was the lack of the tall grass. Made it real easy to get way down stream. didn't do mush fishing there I was just checking out the river and looked for some good holes. Ended up fishing way down the river where all the log jams are. Left when it got dark. Overall it was a good day just being out on the river. Saw plenty of midges on the river and even a mayfly. DaddyO, I also tie allot of hot spots on my flies. My box is full of hot spotted nymphs with lots of lead and tungsten.
  9. Yup, they were most likely midges. Maybe with all the vegetation washed out we might see some some other types of flies this spring.
  10. Yup once you catch 4 you have to stop. My first time Fly fishing RR I had caught 4 in about 30 minutes and kept catching and releasing fish. First time I ever heard this rule a game warden was telling me.
  11. Lawn chairs- the groups of people who sit in lawn chairs right at the access points or good spots all day not even moving. Pretty much closes up a good stretch of the river.
  12. Reel- the heavy thing at the end of your pole that causes it to sink really fast
  13. I was asking myself why weren't they making the river narrower too. I think that would help the most. But overall I think it will help thin out the fishermen a little. You know those days when it's hard to find a good spot. And can someone tell me what a Bankfull Bench is? I'm thinking its something like rocks pilled up along the bank for erosion control. If it is it could help make the river narrower too.
  14. I remember that feeling. My first fish caught on my own fly was a big fat 17 1/2 in. rainbow. Caught it on a BH dark olive bugger. Then about 2 cast later I had an 18 1/2 in. rainbow on the same fly. Those big fish just love a dead drifted bugger.
  15. How's the habitat improvement work going on this area? A while back I heard the ODWC and different organizations were in the planning stages of some sort of river habitat improvement. And because I haven't made it down there in a while and haven't heard anything else about I was thinking someone on here might know some more details on this to feed my curiosity. I came across this Http://tulsaflyfishers.org/files/Watts_Plan_Powerpoint.ppt cool power point showing the plans. Edit: you have to copy paste the url for it to work. Thanks in advance
  16. Ya, a shame. They are having the same problem at Taney. I went to the river a few weekends ago, it was the slowest fishing I've had on that river that I can remember. And the water was the warmest I've felt it, and I was just below the dam. At the time I was suprised I wasn't seeing trout go belly up. The wildlife Dept. Site says the stockings for the 19th and 27th have been canceled but will start up on the 2nd.
  17. I heard of one place that is partially in oklahoma and Arkansas, I think it's called spring valley full of spring fed streams. that's about all I know though. Very expensive I think.
  18. I'm looking to go soon now that the lake is down at level.
  19. I went out today and caught like 15 little bows about 10in. And about 3 large 18in. None in between. I also caught a small drum, shad, and even hooked a huge alligator gar, I thought I snaged bottom with my olive wooly bugger but I just kept pullin and I could feel it moving and I brought it up to the top like 6 or 7 feet from me, I was expecting it to be a drum and when I saw the gar I was like WOW and when it saw me it took off and spit the fly out.
  20. Do you think they'll have the water down this Saturday?
  21. Water temp? What flies are hot right now?
  22. This site shows the discharge for previous days. I'm not Shure if the #a are the maximum discharge or the if it's just a measurement taken at a spacific time of day. BTW my favorite flies are bead head hears ear #18, olive wooly bugger #10. http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/TENKcharts.html
  23. what do you think all this generating is doing to all the fishing holes?
  24. I went down there at the end of March and it was flowing at 10,000 cfps and it's been that way since yesterday. I've been checking this site for the releases. http://www.swt-wc.usace.army.mil/TENK.lakepage.html
