I did a little looking around last evening inside the cowling looks great very clean there is some crusty build up around the vents on the top and back of the cowling on the outside where there are some vents? I didn't have time to check the plugs not sure that I can get to the bottom one? Thank you for your time and effort. RB

Thanks Wrench I'll do some looking it has had the 300 hour or three year checkup about three years ago so about ready for another one? I doubt that the motor has thee hundred hours on it now after about 8 years of service. It's not a "knock" and really is not a consistent rhythm but I didn't really notice that it picks up with the rpm's. RB

I have a 2008 E-Teck 90 horse that when I run for a while 30 minutes or more there is a clicking sound or maybe a ticking sound that seems to come from the upper motor. I'm not sure if this is in the power head or something related. The motor starts great and the take-off seems to have all the power that it ever had just this annoying clicking sounds after the motor runs for a while. It has always sounded "looser" after running for a while even when it was new but this is something new that has come along, any ideas? RB

I would consider that area to be mid to lower end of the lake? I've been fishing the mid Grand River arm putting in at Bucksaw, Bobby Garland's Baby Shad Swimmer in Lights Out has been working great for me early in the morning and when the sun gets up and shines hard on the water I switch over to Electric Chicken, Blue and Chartreuse, Blue and White. It has been an early bite with the action really slowing down towards noon for me anyway. I have been using a 1/32 oz jig a lot this year and most of the time never feel a hit sometimes the line just goes slack or feels heavy sometimes the line just moves off to the side. A 1/32 oz Road Runner style jig with the Bobby Garland baits has been working great for me I think that the lighter weight allows for a much slower retrieve. One thing about Truman the crappie do not all spawn at the same time it will vary widely across the lake, if an area isn't producing for you move. Maybe they just haven't moved up at the area where you were fishing? It will get better! RB

The whole lake should be HOT right now! So pick a spot and go! The upper end may be slowing down a little but anywhere mid lake to lower lake should work just fine. Go about half way back into any of the creeks and start fishing to the very end look for pea gravel. If that creek doesn't work jump over to the next one some have more fish than others. Good Luck! I put in at Bucksaw this morning myself and fishing buddy managed two limits some places the crappie are right on the banks and in some creek arms they are still holding out a little ways but close. The water temps were in the 61.5 to 62 degree range black and chartreuse was the best color today on a 1/16 oz. jig head fished s l o w. RB

I would do as MOPanfisher says and launch at Fairfield but I would go around the island and go south up the Pomme arm. After you pass the bridge there are a lot of points with small gravel and chunk rock that walleyes will soon frequent. Keep heading south up the Pomme arm until you find fish. And the crappie are about to hit the banks so don't forget them, last year I caught a lot of small walleye while actually throwing that the banks fishing for crappie. Most of these were under the limit but I would usually catch one or two keepers nice bonus fish. As for the whites and hybrids good luck with very little water coming in the lake and not much more going out they will be scattered and hard to find and can be anywhere. Good luck RB

I was on the Osage yesterday above Osceola is that far enough West? Water temps were in the 60 to 62 degree range and the bite was S L O W most of the fish that we caught were out in 10' of water close to the bottom it doesn't look like the spawn is any where close? I'm sure that the wind didn't help any! RB

I went two weeks ago and the morning temps were in the 55* range and warmed up to 58* in the afternoon. But there has been a bunch of cold fronts since then and I would think that the water temps have dropped? I did catch some crappie if interested outside tree rows over 15 to 20 ft of water casting a jig letting it sink and reel back real slow. It seems about impossible to get any interest in posting on this lake? RB

I caught several this last Spring while crappie fishing more that ever before so there are some there and the Conservation has stocked some I don't know how many but there have been several stockings. I haven't fished enough this past summer and fall to be able to tell you if anything is happening. But I am planning on fixing that pretty dang quick! RB

There are millions X millions of broke off trees just under the water in Truman lake the lower the water gets the worse this gets. You don't really need a GPS system but they are nice. I have fished Truman since it opened and just recently put a GPS unit on my boat. Get a good lake map and learn where the channels are and take short trips until you learn this lake. Any time that I pull off the main channel I slow down way down!!! Trim your motor up so that if you do hit something it will help the lower unit slide up and over the tree if you do run the boat up on a tree top I just gas it enough to slide up and on over it. I feel that is a lot easier on the bottom of the boat instead of stopping on the tree and then try to back off or rock the boat to get it off the stump. Of course any time that you move to a new area this whole process starts all over again. It's a great fishing lake just be patient and take the time to learn it there are lots of fish to be caught there for sure. There are lots of good fishing all over the lake but Bucksaw remains one of my favorites. Wear your life jacket and hook up the kill switch!!!!!!! RB

That's what I always thought the more water the more better the fishing. Just take lots of jigs as you will need them! RB

Back up she goes! It actually came down a couple of feet but now back to 721.18 and rising! RB
-
720.44 this morning and still more rain coming down anybody want to bet on how high it will go? More rain next week too! RB
-
And still going up! It's nearly three feet higher than when oneshot made this post!

About the only rule that I can say about hybrids is that they are where you find them. But like you most of the time I find them on the current side of the humps and points. Doesn't really make sense to me but it is what it is, I have found them on top, to the sides and the back side just depends of the day and the mood of the fish I guess. Probably that's where the shad are the easiest for the day? Then there are days where you wonder if there are any left in the lake? That's why they call it fishing! RB
-
Thanks for the report naverly when the corps start pulling water across the points and humps the hybrid and white bass fishing should really pick up. Once the lake starts falling a guy can usually find some nice crappie holed up in cedars out of the current. RB

Looks like it going to be up for a while too there is a lot of water coming down the Missouri River. RB

I fished Tuesday put in at Bucksaw and headed East and I did manage to catch a limit but they were very scattered mostly one fish here and there I did find one brush pile close to a bank and caught several off that. I caught just a few on the bank most were out away form the bank about half way back to the boat. Most of the fish that I caught were females some looked spawned out some looked ready the eggs were very loose and some looked close but still not ready. No one particular color was the best maybe the Electric Chicken was better than most? I caught some of the Bobby Garland Stroller and some on the Baby Shad and a few on tubes of various colors. The water temps when I left were 67 to 69 degrees water color was beautiful. The catch of the day was a 16 inch walleye up close to the bank. RB
-
I put in at Bucksaw and headed East saw a lot of boats heading West they must know something that I don't anyway I didn't do very well I caught 5 nice crappie and one 16 inch walleye so that helped make the day. The water looked great but had dropped a couple degrees since I was there last maybe next week? RB
-
Thanks for the report again looks like the lake is warming up nicely I'm sure that this cold front after the rains this weekend will cool things down for a day or two but I plan on getting on the water about the middle of next week. The crappie slider is a pretty good bait I throw them a lot in the Spring time great bait on a road runner type head when the water is really muddy too. RB
-
Thanks for the report what was the water temperature? RB

Usually the lower end of the lake turns on later than the upper end so I would guess that in the Osage Bluff area the spawn would start sometime in the middle of a April to the last of April? That is if the weather holds about the same as we are now having. If the Spring rains come and the lake goes up a couple to maybe ten feet high and the corps holds water during that time and then begins to drop the water levels in May like they usually do then the spawn will be much later if it happens at all. If you get there in April and the fish aren't in a spawning mode I would load up and head to either the Osage, Grand, or Tebo arms and start about mid way up the arms and go up and down the main lake arms searching the main feeder creek arms for fish. Good Luck. RB

About the same as you but when they do show it sure is fun! RB
