  1. Thanks Kevin! Right now I am still planning on spending the weekend down there. I'll put a post up on Monday and let you know if we get skunked!
  2. Thanks for your report Kevin. I appreciate it. Did you notice if the campground was open at Beaver and if there were still spots far from the water to camp in? It is hard for me to picture how high the water really is down there right now. I was planning on a camping/fishing trip down there this weekend and live 200 miles away. Just try to figure out what I might be getting myself into before I actually leave. Thanks
  3. Great Question, one I am also looking for an answer on. I was also going to try and camp at the Beaver Creek Campground, any idea if they have any spots out of the water and if they are even open? The last weather report I caught are forecasting more rain for Thursday, but Friday and Saturday were supposed to be Nice.
  4. LMAO.... Yes, your photos are real "deceiving" (I'll use the correct spelling, you know the rule we learned in 2nd grade, "i" before "e" except after "C") since you never post any photos Trav! Pictures? let's see your pictures, you should have several since you catch fish like that on a weekly basis, right Trav? Oh, wait, let me guess, you don't have a camera? I'm sure the only fish you have EVER seen like the one Leonard caught is hanging on the wall at Bass Pro Shops. Nice Fish Leonard, it's nice when people post pictures of what they "actually" caught versus blowing smoke about it constantly.
  5. Yes, and in the Aquarium at Bass Pro Shops.
  6. Yes, it's a good thing trav fishes Taneycomo, and the Taxidermist fishes bull shoals; because if they ever fished the same waters it would decimate the population.
  7. That's "Condescending"
  8. 10-4 I hear ya!
  9. Do you have anymore kitty cat pictures in your photo album you can share with us?
  10. We know Wayne, there seems to be a lot you wish you knew. It is apparant (at least on OAF) that you don't know near as much as you would like to think.
  11. Hey Beeson, that might actually make a pretty good short story. You might give some thought to adding that one to your portfolio.
  12. Yeah right Beeson, back on Post #18 you said you were done debating. I think it is funny that 5 posts later you are still trying to get the last word in. You can have the last word if it means that much to you as I won't have time to debate any further with you as I will be reading short stories by Terry Beeson this afternoon. Calico Wayne, I thought maybe that was the name of your cute little cat that you are trying to shoot with a .45?
  13. Once again Wayne, avoiding those areas is not the point that anyone has made on here? I think the inital point was these dams are easy targets for someone who wants to cause major destruction and devisatation. It is a pretty cheap investment to have a little security at these locations versus the devastation and loss of life (which I can't even begin to place a value on life) that would occur. I'm not suggesting take away any one's right to "fish at the pothole," rather look for those people that pose threats. My point to you is that, "IF" I'll reiterate for you again "IF" powersite failed, yes you would have a signifigant damage. Whether it be do to a structual defect(built in 1913) or an act of intent by man, there would be signifigant damage. No, I'm not going to stop fishing at the pothole either.
  14. That's exactly right Thom. You said it. It's even more devistating in person, all from only a 50 acre lake! The article states this 50 acre lake was drained in 12 minutes. As Calico Wayne pointed out, Taneycomo is 2080 acres. Think about the devistation there. Shadow Rock and River Run, which are both around a mile below powersite dam would be severely damaged. Keeping in mind, while Taum Sauk was only a 50 acre lake, people 15 miles down stream were forced to seek higher ground due to the flooding. Imagine how far down BS people would be affected, I would say it would be a little further down the lake then the rock hole......
  15. I don't need to do the math, I can comprehend the flooding that would take place without having to get the calculator out. Uh Ok, but the Barker hole is a mile down stream from Shadow Rock and River Run. River Run and Shadow Rock would be flooded before water would be stopped at the Barker Hole. When a Dam breaks water does not follow the exising path way, it makes it's own, and the force of that water is greater then what you seem to realize. Maybe the link below will help put it into perspective: http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2005/12/15/...in1130223.shtml
  16. Wildminnow, you may have something there.
  17. And you live in Rockaway Beach, now that is funny! I guess you think if Powersite breeched we could stick a piece of gum over it to keep Bull Shoals from going up over .06 of an inch..
  18. Correction Terry, floating OVER Branson Landing.
  19. 1 foot? Come on Wayne, I've seen it raise 1 foot at river run in a matter of 3 hours with 2 doors open. Hypothetically, if the entire dam was gone I don't see how BS would only go up 1 ft?
  20. Sure, I agree that's true if you SEE it. You are entirely correct. Compared to TRD the impact would be less, but next to nothing? If Powersite Dam went, River Run Campground, Shawdow Rock, 76 Bridge would all be under water in a matter of 5 minutes. I guess if you consider that zero damage then you would be right. If TRD went, in a matter of minutes every camp ground, resort and Branson Landing would be under water. Let's not think about the lives impacted by that. Terry, No one is suggesting we shut down fishing around TRD. Only suggesting we have a little common sense security in place. If memory serves me correct we already have security at SDC, Security at shopping malls, security at my place of employment, security at sports arenas. I don't know how 3 security agents at TRD is going to affect your fishing? Shouldn't affect it any, only identify potential threats when and if they exist. I'm with you, I'd go fishing there tomorrow if I could. Just like I go to SDC and the other Venues you mentioned. Silver Mallard is suggesting that maybe they do have undercover surveliance, maybe they do, heck I'm not sure what surveliance they have at TRD, and if they do it's not visible to the public. Divers by the dam, any and all traffic is permitted over the dam, etc. Just leaves it open as an easy target. All I am suggesting.
  21. Terry, If your "honey do" list is anything like mine you take 2 things off and get 5 more added. Hopefully this weather will hold out for you and the list doesn't grow before Friday. I don't think it's necessarily the Bin Ladens that we need to be conceanred about at a place like TRD, its the Timothy McVeighs and the Cho Seung-Hui's that we need to be concearned with. Those people who live in our area and are looking for creating local violence that attracts national/worldwide attention. One thing I know each of us agrees on is the hope this day never comes.
  22. Lilley, how about a couple complimentary nights on the house to see if I am really intersted in purchasing the resort? It's obvious that the thought of a terroist act has been considered by goverment or state agencies, leading to the posting of the sign at powersite I mentioned in my earlier post. It just amazes me that the thought a mere sign will stop someone from proceeding closer to the Dam or intentionally trying to breech it. Yes, it might stop the harmless person who is just curious, but the person that has intent to do something violent will laugh at the sign and follow through with the act. Wildminnow, you are right on with the truck thing. Even more scary then the parking lot below is the fact that you DRIVE over table rock dam. How hard would it be to get 2-3 trucks on top of it at the same time and carry and act like that out? Terry, No disrespect, but your statement "I think we are all kidding ourselves?" I don't think we can be too cautious about it. It isn't an issue any of us are trying to "kid" about. A major breech in a dam like table rock would give terroists the "bang for their buck." It would be a matter of just a few minutes before many lives would be lost down the lake. I doubt you can even get within a 1/2 mile of the hoover dam in your own car? Table Rock, yes may not be as popular of landmark as the hoover dam, but certainly with no security, is a much easier target.
  23. Intersting that I'm not the only one who had this concern run through their mind before. I agree with all of you, (except Silver Mallard) it is a huge security issue. Take a dam, like powersite that was built I presume back in the teens or early 20's? You can take 1 look at it and see the kind of shape it is in, but it does still serve it's purpose. When you go up to the rock hole on the river run side, you can get right to the dam. There is a sign at the end of the road that is maybe 30 yards from the dam that says, "due to recent world events, no one is permitted beyond this point." What amazes me, that if someone was serious about taking advantage of an older dam like that, do they really beleive a sign will stop them? It too is easily accesible from both sides of the lake. I have a fishing buddy, and we've often discussed the shape of Powersite and how quickly a flood would be to River Run and the campers there if the dam ever breeched. (Lord willing we will never know) I guess we looked at it from more of a structal failure, then a violent act. But I have to say, this day in time nothing should surprise us, if people can hi-jack planes and fly them into buildings, they can do almost anything including the unthinkable! It is shocking that something that could have such an impact on a large number of people is so accessible and vulnerable.
  24. You are the "wildminnow" Yes, like I said, I have yet to find any figure of "authority" to validate that for me. They sure beat the hell out of Bob's blackheads, that' for sure. Enjoy your fishing weekend, I know it's going to be a cold one out, but hey who knows. You know the old saying, "A bad day fishing is better then a good day working!"
