  1. Wayne can you explain this in more detail. I bounce mine hard off the bottom most of the time so I was thinking powder paint would hold up better, btw I have caught fish on jigs with no paint left so it's not that important just curious.
  2. Thanks everyone for the great information. I buy most of my jigs at White River Zig Jigs. They are IMO the best. When I don't think ahead or conditions change for different colors, I buy them at your shop Phil. Wayne I just requested one of their catalogues yesterday and look forward to getting it. Dutch you let the cat out of the bag buddy, thanks a millon. I'm going to have some time on my hands over the winter to try tying these things. I'm sure I will have plenty of mistakes and lots of questions. Great video Phil on tying them. Sincerely, BRBF
  3. I have a 1980 cj5 and I would only use it to pull my kids around on a sled or my 16' aluminum boat 10 miles to spfd lake. It's just not a long distance hunting/fishing vechicle for two reasons 1) I can't take the soft top beating around very long on the highway (wranglers are marginally better for this) 2) Holds little to nothing. I guess you could stuff your boat full of your camping/fishing/hunting gear and solve #2.
  4. I need assistance finding oblong jig head molds to tye maribou jigs 1/8 & 1/16 primarily. I have a round head mold in hand that I haven't used yet and prefer a slightly flatted round for jig fishing and can't seem to find one. Additinally, if anyone has opinions on hook brand and quailty I would appreciate those as well. The jigs I currently buy are Mustad hooks which I understand might be the best. Cheap source for powder paints, tread and maribou would be awesome. Thx BRBF
  5. I fished an 1/8 oz white jig sunday with no results working the middle of the water. I had an extremly hard time fighting the wind and the current and swear I never really felt the jig bounce the bottom at all. Most of the time even casting up stream the jig would be past the boat prior to my counts I use to drop down to the bottom and then working it back perpendicular was out of the question. I also saw 0 shad in the water the 3 hours I fished. Since the 02 seems to be of great importance were the fish stacked up by the outlets where oxygen levels were better?? And here is the big question. Yea Ive got the advantage over the wading fly fishermen bc im in a boat , but if fish are primarialy stacked up over by the outlets what is the rule of thumb regarding casting into these areas where the waders are stacked in like sardines. I'm a pretty polite person on the water (slow down for anchored boats and try not to get into other boats space) but if the fish are there I'm gonna cast in there and I really don't want to hear a bunch of crap.
  6. Now let me get this straight. The government has taken over the entire banking system, two of the three car companies and they have their sights on all my health care and you honestly sit here and tell me that I shouldn't worry huge restrictions on fishing and hunting? Laughable
  7. Doesn't appear like "conspiracy theory". Al usually won't touch that stuff, but he's no fool either and obviously when the president of a fishing eq co that sells roughly $322 million dollars worth of eq is concerned he takes note. BTW are you looking for any assualt weapons yet??
  8. You deserve a great big buffett of crow and the power being assembled in Washington might just give it to you. Nobody is against healthier fishing as a principal. It's just how you plan on doing it where the rubber meets the road. This type of "if your not for your against" is getting very old these days. What if the final legislation or executive order goes like this: "it shall be unlawful to disturb any habitat native to species for the purposes of recreational or commercial fishing" now while I agree reefs shouldn't be distrubed I disagree with the gravel banks on the rivers and streams access. What if this means you can't even hit the bank with a lure?? And maybe that can be inturpreted to mean less access or no access to streams. You really need to reconsider a "carte blanch" approach to ecology and the enviroment.
  9. Well thats a good question that nobody here seems to answer
  10. topic is in regards to the potential freedoms associated with fisihng in the USA
  11. will not post stands
  12. How long will the fishing remain extremly good? Is a white 1/8 or 1/4 jig preferred? Im considering throwing large stick baits at brown and bows is this a good idea or not?
  13. Well let me chime in since I posted the topic. This administration seeks to or has already "changed" this country in major ways. Thats why I posted it that way. And I'm sure they seek to conserve the country's resources. No doubt about that. Climate change here we come. But you see these massive freedom changes start somewhere and right here with "Task Forces". I believe Task means a matter needing action and force....well we all know what that means. Get ready folks. Oh wait a minute Im just crazy bc everything this administation does or wants to do is super cool. Silly me I just need to get in line a march along. So why does the president of Shiamano think this not good? Afterall if this was such a great deal for fishing you would think he would be elated to sell more stuff but he's not. Probably a right winger right? On an unrelated topic I'm shopping for couple of extra assult weapons cause they won't change that either.
  14. When is the orange effective? I have never one on it. Brown and green heads are my money jigs.
  15. This topic should not go away. I don't have time to read the entire report right now so I'm not prepared to comment on it. And at some point the information and insight into this topic will have to come from sources other than the government and the admin here has to know it. http://www.whitehouse.gov/assets/documents...orce_FINAL2.pdf
  16. I assume I'm in the minority on the twenkie cheaters and thats fine I'm in the minority on lots of issues these days, but choose my principles over popularity. While fishermen with large egos and lesser male endowment will pursue every world fishing record out there also exists the possiblity that some unsuspecting father and son have an equal opportuinty at the same record. Hopefully god will bless them over the egotistical fisherman. Enjoy the DNA pissing match as I could care less
  17. While you may give respect to these two niche world record holders I will not and since I won't pony up a membership fee to IGA I can't access the rules. I do have logic to my argument allow me to point it out to you. Perphaps I should have used "performance enhancing substances" I don't think it matters either way. You see these athletes seeked to obtain an edge over others with similar or equal god given skills and athleticism. Clearly fishermen who choose to gain an advantage over other fishermen with similar or equal god given skills by targeting a gentically altered strain of rainbow could be compared to athletes. The additional irony I like here is at the time they both thought they were above scrutinity of other professinals.
  18. What colors and sizes should a novice have of both wollies and soft hackles for Taney in, above and around lookout? Additionally, what size leader and tippet? THX BRBF
  19. I bet you two enjoyed steriod baseball (some of it wasn't illegal at the time right???) and cheating New England Patriots Football. Finding an edge to get yourself past others who don't target freak fish is crap and I stand by it. GREAT BIG *for these two twinkie cheaters
  20. I bet you two enjoyed steriod baseball (some of it wasn't illegal at the time right???) and cheating New England Patriots Football. Finding an edge to get yourself past others who don't target freak fish is crap and I stand by it. GREAT BIG * for these two twinkie cheaters
  21. I voted no on adding these genetic freaks to Taney. I am in favor of boosting smallmouth numbers and I believe they would hurt this process. These two brothers have systematically targeted an abnormal rainbow for the sole purpose of getting into the record books. Pure and simple. Nice fish but cheating the books IMO. BTW are they accountants? Cause they seem to be really good a cooking record books.
  22. Thanks for the report, good looking fish as well.
  23. Don't make the mistake of assuming rainbow trout are stupid. Go try to catch 9 inch freshly released fish on a calm blue bird day with no water flowing. There aren't morons in charge of these genetics and I'm sure they are as wild as they can make them. Why hasn't Al chimed in with an educated assessment?
