  1. Good Job RSBreth, I did not know there were walleye in the James. I have never caught a walleye. Maybe some day. Keep up the good reports.
  2. Hey Pat, I took my wife to Fellows Lake today and we caught our limit on BlueGill. We kept all the ones that were bigger than my hands. I also caught a two and half pound channel cat. All on worms from our garden. Of the BlueGills, one was a female with eggs and the other 38 were males full of sperm. We just rigged a small hook on the end of the line with a spitshot weight a foot up on 6lb test line. We found the fish off the reddish points on the sandgravel beds. Those spots may look merky red. However that is where the males are making the beds. This whole next week should be real nice. I dont know what the water temp was. We got there at 1:30pm and left at 4:30. I stuffed 2 quart ziplock bags with nice fillets. My wife loves to fish and she usually brings a book with her to read when the fishing is slow. She did not have time to pick up her book today. The action was a fish every other cast. My son and I will be there in the morning. Good luck every one. Charles
  3. Thanks Chris, Thanks Martin. I will probalbly be down there this week or next weekend. Took the wife to Fellows Lake today and caught 39 Blue Gill and one two pound channel cat on worms from the garden. All the Blue gill were larger than my hands. Only one was a female with eggs and the rest were all mails full of sperm. Going back in the morning. Thanks again.
  4. Nice fish everyone. Are you using the whole sunfish/bluegill or cutting it up? What size hooks and what kind of hooks work best?
  5. Nice catch. Who sells crickets around the lake?

    Catfish

Thanks for the report. Sounds good to me. Catfish should get crazy by the weekend with the storms moving in. I was thinkn bout limb lines, jugs, and trot lines. Might be time to pull out the cast net or catch some perch for bait. Good luck and congrats.
  7. I think peanut oil is the best, if you dont mind spending the extra money for larger fish fries. My wife seasoned some the other nite, added butter, wrapped them up in tinfoil and put them on the grill. They were done in about ten minutes. They really were good that way. Nice and flakey.
  8. Anyone been catching any cats lately. Sure lookn forward to hanging some hooks and droppn a line. Anyone know?
  9. Welcome to the Forum. I dont miss the heat down south either. Moved up here to Springfield a few years back from Shreveport. I do miss fishn on Caddo Lake, Lake Fork, Toledobend, Red River, Cross Lake, etc. Miss the Duck Hunting and the White Tail... You will definately enjoy the hunting up here. Good Luck and God Bless
  10. Just curious what the water looks like down by Taylor Shoals and if the WHITES have moved out. Thinkn bout hitting the catfish. Anyone know?
  11. Thanks for the reminder RANGERMAN....I told my wife and son what happened to BUBBASDAD...I am building a digital file with my new camera my wife got me for christmas last year...we have made lots of fishing and hunting videos. So now we are recording all our Fishnhunt gear and household items. Keep up the good work RANGERMAN....and may GOD BLESS all you lawenforcement officers.
  12. Thanks Sam for the $2.00 tip at CHARLIES....I dont guess there is anybody at TAYLOR SHOALS today. I seen the river up here above Nixa after work today. Guess the Channel Cats will be feeding after this flooding. Seen some nice ones rolling the water tuesday before the heavy rain blew in. We caught one Channel Cat 18inches long on a white maribou jig while white bass fishing. He had real nice colors..healthy looking. Bubbas Dad...Hope they find them theives...Had a great idea,,,hook up an electric charge to the door handles on your truck... bet they wouldnt do it again.
  13. That's darn shame that happened. We park at Blunk Rd and its dark down there when we get out. I've seen the sherriffs patrol the boat ramp below the bridge in Galena and the Kerr Access during the day time. I would not know if they patrol at night. Was there alot of vehicles parked there cause there were alot at Blunk Rd when we were done fishing yesterday. I hope my truck never gets broken in. Thanks for the warning though. I'll be sure to keep an extra dog in the truck . Dont feel too bad. My sons Ford Explorer was stolen out of our driveway a couple of months ago. It wasnt driveable when the state patrol found it in Lebanon. We live in Springfield. Although I hope they do get caught. Because they probably think they got away with it. And could try again. I'll tell my partners what happened. On a better note, I hope you caught some nice fish. Tonight my son and I ended the night with 5 BIG MALES and 25 not too much smaller. We did throw back probably 20 dinks atleast. He caught the majority of the big males this time. He loved it. And I of course I just got through cleaning them......Good Luck Guys
  14. Thanks for the look out. Tried a few times Sunday while we were white bass fishing. My son snagged a gar. They may be further up river (the majority). I sure like to get into some before season ends this week. GOOD LUCK.
  15. The weather man said no rain tomorrow. I get off work at 3:30pm. I should be there at bunk road before 4pm. Hope ya'll saved a few for me. I will be in a 14' green flat bottom with the old 15 envinrude. Yesterday I used my old rotors off my van as an anchor so we could stay in the current. Those things sure did pay for theirselves a second time. Anybody seen any spoonbill anywhere on the james?
  16. Im thinkn bout hittn it tuesday after work. Provided its not raining and the water is still somewhat clear like it was to day. Congrats on all the fish. My son and I were down there today. Just got done cleaning fish. We had some real nice males too. Ran out of White Maribouu jigs 1/8 oz. We only kept 20 nice males and one channel cat bout a pound. There was white bass following him, trying to get the Maribou jig out of his lip. Every time I realed in white bass, there were 5-7 more with it. Great day. Hope nobody stayed on the river tonight with that storm coming in. Good night and God Bless.
  17. Thanks for the report everyone, going turkey hunting in the morning up at Pomme. Hopefully I get one by after light. I will be back down at Bunk with my son and friend as soon as I am done. Turkey, Whites and Spoonbill...nice combination. Good Luck and Safe Fishing everyone.
  18. Just wondering if anyone has been fishing the James from Walnut Springs up to Taylor Shoals since the last rains. Are the WHites still running and biting? I hope, I was thinking about hit it this weekend.
  19. Thanks Cricket. Is that atleast a 2 hour drive? Charles
  20. Hi Cody, Those WHITES sure were NICE. My partner and I were wondering where Greer's Ferry Lake was located and how do you get there from Springfield, Mo. You look to know the area pretty well. I know that is an understatement. Phil and us members are lucky to have you for your knowledge about that area. Hope we can get there in the next few days. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Charles
  21. Hendernt, You are definately right about windswept shores....lots of shad/minnows hold against those shores.
  22. I like to let my rooster tails sink to the bottom, then give them enough jerk to get the spinner going, just enough to feel the tension of the blade and I real them in moderately slow-not fast. The swimming minnows and the spoons, I use a jerk jerking motion---one, two...one two three and sometimes we were reeling them slow. Spoons were the same way and the shad raps too. Also the shad raps worked well while trolling......we fished the banks back across the flats and. When we were up flat creek, we found them in bend to the left of the bluffs. I did not get out this weekend. My partner went yesterday and said no one was catching hardly any whites above McCords Bend or SpoonBills. I think the bills moved further up river and the cold run off water caused the whites to move down river to deeper water. I think after next week cold front is over and the warming trend picks up, the whites will start biting.
  23. Would this be due to the several millions of gallons of sewer being released into the james river every month by our city sewer stations.
  24. We caught them up Flat Creek 2 weeks ago and then started fishing for the SpoonBills. You may want to head up river above McCord Bend. Try White Rooster tails, minnow colored Shad Raps, Swimming Minnows. These have been working. The rain we had last week had them move up river. I dont know what has been happening up Flat Creek. If you dont have a jet motor, be carefull above McCord Bend. There are shallow areas. Keep an EYE on the Missouri River Level Section of this Forum. Choose James River. You will see a map. Click on Galena. That will give you a general idea on the Water Level. Good Luck and Be Safe
