    Help!

The Y2K is fished with a dead drift under an indicator. It is my go to winter fly. Besides how can anything that looks like power bait not work.

    Help!

I would also make sure that I had some Y2Ks and zebra midges. My favorite sections are Rim and roundhouse Shoals.
  3. Dano, If all else fails, you can send the reel back to Orvis and for ten dollars they will recondition the reel and replace the errant parts.
  4. Come whenever you can. I will be there . This is a fly tying show and should not be missed.
  5. I have run into exactly the same situation before and it really fried my bacon. I spend as little time on the ramp as possible so that others may use it. These guys that clean fish while others are waiting to use the ramp should lose their ramp priviledges.
  6. Like River Runner I have had pretty tough fishing lately. It seems one day is good the next mean.
  7. It just so happens that I am attending a fly fishing wedding today at the confluence of the White and Norfork Rivers. Guide John Gulley and former MSFF President Kathy Post are getting hitched. The ceremony is being officiated by Gary Powell an ordained Minister and avid fly fisher. Gary Powell's phone number is 901 201-0297.
  8. It is more like a serendipity except the material is soft. There is a picture of it in the most current edition of the Home Waters Book.
  9. I always mash mine. This was brought home last week when I caught a double when fishing a dropper soft hackle rig at roundhouse shoals. I released the fish from the dropper and about that time the bow on the lead fly took a run imbedding the dropper fly up to the bend of the hook in my thumb in the process. As I easily pulled it out I remembered why I mash them
  10. I fish them like I would a soft hackle. I cast down stream at a 45 degree angle to the bank. I strip the fly in a foot or so when it lands to sink the fly. I let it swing and I watch the end of the line for strikes. I slowly work my way down stream. The strikes can be very subtle. Don't be afraid to set the hook.Good luck!
  11. Alas, that is also my problem. I get my brother Dan to tie them for me.
  12. Dan' Turkey Quill Emerger (also called Dan's Turkey Tail Emerger) Hook: Mustad 94840 sizes 18-22 Thread: Brown Body: Three strands of brown turkey tail fibers tied in by tip Rib: 6X monofilament Wing: Cream poly dubbing formed into noodle and cut short, about 1/3 body length Head: Bronze portion of eyed peacock tail My brother Dan came up with this one twenty years ago and we have been catching a lot of fish with it every since. It is killer on the Norfork. Dan has been tying it in 22s for the last year and it is the size to go with.
  13. The white has been quite fishable. There have been periods of no generation every day and a few days with no generation. The lake is below flood pool. Now when they do run water they seem to really crank it up. Lori and I fished Saturday afternoon at Roundhouse Shoals and caught 30 to 40 each on red asses, partridge and oranges, and Dan's turkey quill emerger. Sunday afternoon was pretty slow at Rim but we managed to catch a few on scuds and black zebra midges. No big fish either day. I would definately recommend the White as an alternative to the Norfork. If they do turn off the Norfork, definately drop what you are doing and fish it!
  14. I have several Orvis rods and reels but not the ones you mention. My rods are older models and are very soft. I like them a lot but I think the rod you are talking about is much stiffer. I do not fish anything but Orvis reels I love the CFOs and Battenkills particularly. I have sent back rods, reels, boots for replacement and got prompt efficient service. I think you will enjoy your rig, if not, send it back. It comes with a 100% satisfaction guarantee. You cannot do better than that.
  15. I apologize for not posting a report but I have not fished the Norfork in a couple of weeks. The lake is above flood pool and the Corps of Engineers is running both generators twenty four hours a day. The lake is still about two and one half feet above pool. If we get no more rain, it should be down to power pool in say two weeks. That said, if you plan on fishing before then make sure you have a boat. If you are boat fishing I recommend fishing up by the dam with eggs and san juan worms. The brookies should be cooperative. The last time I caught the water down my wife, Lori, and I did well on size twenty two Dan's turkey quill emergers and small worm brown san juan worms. Good luck if they lower the water look for me. I don't like to fish high water without a client because my wife refuses to run the boat and I can't fish.
  16. My problem is not the script but accuracy. I have reported that I have detected several discrepancies in the past. Such as generation not being reported on the line.
  17. My wife, Lori, and I went fishing yesterday afternoon at roundhouse shoals in Cotter, Arkansas, Trout Capital USA. This spot is about four blocks from our house in the old part of Cotter. I started with a Y2K and tagged a fish on the first cast. I pumped the rainbow and observed a lot of adult rhyacophilia caddis size twenty. I yelled the info to lori and I stopped and rigged up a double rig. Dan's turkey quill emerger (18) and a partridge and orange (15). On the third cast I tagged a double. We fished all afternoon and caught thirty to fourty fish each. No fish of any size. The wind blew pretty heavily but I was able to keep it in the road with my four weight.
  18. I will take a look. It will take a lot of convincing for me to change. I have been in Simms for many years.
  19. The Simm's are definately the best! I live in my waders and I find them to be the most comfortable of any I have ever tried.
  20. I thought that the article was well written. I also think that the elitist concept creeps into it. The actual truth is that fly fishing is differant for every one. I love a variety of fishing experiences. My favorite is probably taking native brookies on dry flies in the Smokies. But I sure get off on tagging big fish anywhere. To each his own and what ever melts your butter is right for you as long as it is legal and ethical.
  21. Well, it happened again. Yesterday about 500 gallons of sewage washed into the White River at Bull Shoals. This is the second spill in two weeks. I think they have a problem and the ADEQ needs to check this out.
  22. I have found that differant brands of wading boots vary widely in size. Orvis boots tend to run narrow. Patagonia boots are wider than most. Simms run much bigger than any other size (I could wear one size smaller in Simms). My suggestion is to try the boots on with your waders and two pair of socks. Be sure and keep a little toe wiggle room.
  23. Sounds like you made a good choice. I hope you enjoy the rig.
  24. This will certainly have a negative impact on the area's revenues (including mine). Taking a river boat from Quarry park to the confluence at dead low water would require a bit of boat dragging. I would think that fishing would actually get better with the greatly reduced pressure. I am going to float the river in a canoe in the near future to see how that works. I would assume that it would be a nice trip.
  25. I agree with Silver Mallard. I have certain rods (Sage) in both four and two piece configurations. If my eyes are closed, I cannot tell the differance. I think the extra fifty dollars would best be spent on upgrading the line. I think that that would make a bigger differance on the performance of the rig than anything else.
