I use the cheapest 12# mono I can find. I tie it with a uni-to-uni knot. This knot is for lines of different diameter and that is why I use it. I don't have to worry about what lines I can tie together. I fill up the reel about 25%.

I know this topic has been discussed before, but I wanted to bring it up again to see which way the winds are blowing today in light of all the new products and product improvements that have come our way. For topwater, I use 15# Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid tied directly to the topwater bait with a King Sling Loop knot. I use a cheap 12# mono for reel backing (1/4 of the reel). For all spinning and baitcasting equipment for shaky head, dropshot, jigs, and just about all soft plastic fishing, I use the Spiderwire Ultracast Invisi-Braid 15# (open, clear water, very little cover) or 20# (heavy cover/dirty water)with a uni-to-uni knot to either a 4-5 foot leader of P-line Floroclear or Yo-Zuri Hybrid Clear (8# - clear water up to 15# dirty water) tied with a Fish-N-Fool knot. I use a cheap 12# mono for reel backing (1/4 of reel). It is so easy to set the hook with braid. You can feel everything and see your line in all water and sky conditions. The leader provides near invisibility in the water. I can cast just as far with this braid and it lasts many fishing seasons. I am on year THREE with most of my braid. Do you get TWO to THREE years out of your mono and fluorocarbon? I have used Fireline and PowerPro, but the Spiderwire Invisi-Braid is the smoothest and strongest. It is rod friendly and casts the best. When using braid with no stretch, you must change the way you set the hook. It only takes a small jerk of the rod (about an 18" jerk with rods 6'6" and less and 12" with a 7' rod). For crankbaits, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, flukes, swimbaits, swimming jigs, etc., as stated before, I do not use any fluorocarbon line. It just does not hold up for me. Get it tangled and that part of the line is history. It is brittle and breaks too easy in Winter. The knot strength is not good. It is overpriced. Mono has too much stretch and does not have the abrasion resistance. I use a hybrid line that is nylon on the inside and coated with fluorocarbon. I use the same P-Line Floroclear and YoZuri's copolymer line that I use as leaders on my braid. All are tied with the Fish-N-Fool knot. The copolymer construction makes the line very castable and amazingly durable with high knot-strength and low-memory. And, it is affordable. The fluorocarbon coating gives it the same near invisibility under water as expensive fluorocarbon. Depending on the water clarity, cover, and the lure, I will use 8#, 10#, 12#, and 15# test. I use Blakemore's Reel Magic or KVD's Line and Lure Conditioner about 18-24 hours before fishing on ALL of my line. If any of you really try some of the suggestions, above, I would appreciate some feedback. I am continuously trying to improve my system. What do you use?

Thanks for the photos......they are great.

The Branson Bass Club had their February tourney out of K-Dock yesterday.

Flippin.....what test braid? With a 1/4 and 1/2 oz. jig head, it should have went down pretty easy unless you were using a large diameter braid. I use a 10# or 15# braid when using a grub. Dennis.... With braid I can feel everything and see the line in all water and sky conditions. The copolymer leader provides near invisibility in the water. I can cast just as far with braid and it lasts an entire fishing season, sometimes two seasons. I am on year three on my topwater reels. I use a cheap 12 lb. mono for reel backing. I have used Fireline and PowerPro, but the Spiderwire Invisi-Braid is the smoothest, strongest, its rod friendly, and casts the best.

Steve, I have tried many of them, especially Trilene. I keep coming back to the copolymers. I don't need "super sensitivity" when using the copolymers, because I only use them on cranks, spinnerbaits, etc. When using these baits, I need the knot strength, abrasion resistance, and castability that the copolymers provide over the fluorocarbon. There is no way that I would use fluorocarbon on a square billed crankbait. The rest of my stuff is loaded with braid or braid with a copolymer leader. Braid is more "super sensitive" than fluorocarbon.

I use it mostly on cloudy days.

I guess I am the odd man out on this one. I do not use any fluorocarbon line. It just does not hold up for me. Get it tangled and that part of the line is history. It is brittle and breaks too easy in Winter. The knot strength is not good. It is overpriced. I use a hybrid line that is nylon on the inside and coated with fluorocarbon. I use P-Line Floroclear and YoZuri's copolymer line. The copolymer construction makes the line very castable and amazingly durable with high knot-strength and low-memory. And, it is affordable. The fluorocarbon coating gives it the same near invisibility under water. The P-Line is just a little thinner than the YoZuri, so I use that in extreme finesse situations. All other situations, I use the YoZuri on: braid leaders, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, ratl-traps, etc.

Glad the stop sonar feature worked. Thanks for letting me know. Mike.....the images are incredible. I find myself watching it too much, though. It was great meeting you, as well.

What do you use to catch White Bass on Table Rock Lake? Horizonally, I use the Blue Box Super Vibrax, Silver or Gold, Number 3 or 4. Vertically, I use either a White or Chartreuse 1/2 or 3/4 oz. War Eagle (comes with the swivel) spoon. Others use the 1/4 oz. White Rooster Tail. What say you?

The pot is getting bigger....here is my 2 cents. I have old Shimano Sedona's and they are still working great. I also have a Shimano Symetre which is an excellent reel. I agree....I do not like the Johnny Morris signature reels, but I do like the BPS Extreme reels ($49). I have six of these reels and they work great. They are just as good as all of my Shimano's but for one thing: The Extreme's have a extra wide spool that just about eliminates line twist. In the Summer, all of my clients use the Extreme's for dropshotting; a technique that causes line twist. In the Winter, these reels are used for vertical spoons and jigs another technique that causes more line twist. This reel handles it great. I also see from their most recent BPS catalog, the reels have been improved by sealing the drag system for a even smoother drag system. I had no problems with the old drag, so I can't wait to try the new one. You also get a spare spool. Bottom line: Shimano's are great. The Extreme is just a little better because of the extra wide spool.

Could you PM me the address. I have four new baits that came with the bad one and they may be bad as well. My complete order has been fulfilled by Tackle Warehouse, so that is no longer an option if I have more bad ones. Thanks in advance.

Hope to see ya out there. I will be going out of K-Dock tomorrow a.m.

Now that is good.

I agree, follow that Skeeter. On thing that I would add to the list is a senko type bait. I like the Green Pumpkin Chompers salty sinker in the 4 1/4" size. I would rig it two ways: on a 1/4 oz. Spot Remover shakey head and wacky style. The wacky rig can be weighted with a #4 split shot just above the hook eye or small nails placed in both ends of the bait. This bait is awesome in April. At the time that you are here, I would throw it mainly in the last deep water area close to spawning areas. They should be waiting there to move up and spawn or be resting there after spawning. Now, one favor. Don't tell Bill Babler about this technique. He will go on the lecture circuit and tell everyone.

Mike....I like the Blue Bandit and Table Rock Shad the best.
