  1. I'll probably be moving fish to the release boat again... its good fun and you get to see alot of fish. Hope to see ya there
  2. Captmac, good to see you again, looking for the same info as well. I am having trouble finding a current fishing report online. One of the ones I found was updated on the 14th. Here is the link http://grandfishingreport.com/
  3. Cotterboy, thanks for the info and the websites... I really like the E jigs, think I just might have to break down and order a few. I guess we will have to wait and see how much rain we get tonight and possibly tomorrow. Hopefully it doesn't start raining cats and dogs again.
  4. Thanks for the info guys, hope to put it to good use within the next day or two, rain permitting of course. When drifting are you keeping the jigs under the boat and near bottom or casting them out and letting them drag? I hope to do some casting as well, we'll see how it goes. Happy fishing Hopefully I can post a report later
  5. Hey guys, when I target trout specificallly I usually troll a blue & chrome crankbait, but this year with all the water, trolling the upper end has been fairly difficult for me... I know I can catch them on Powerbait, but I really enjoy artificial lures, jigs, crankbaits, etc etc. I havn't taken the time to learn to fly fish, so it's the usually the ultralights and light actions for myself. I guess the question I am asking is what kind of jig do y'all usually drift? Roadrunners, regular jigs w/ soft plastics ( I know these aren't allowed above fall creek), marabou jigs? Also what colors tend to work the best? I have my favorite crankbait, but it just isn't producing like usual this year, even in gold colors. Taneycomo is just a few minutes from the house and a few hickory smoked trout for dinner is always a good option . Thanks guys
  6. Thank all of you guys for what you do, now hopefully I can get out sometime this week and put all this information to use . I havn't been out on the water for a couple of weeks now, kinda getting a really really bad itch.
  7. Shaner, in the heartland tourney, I caught a couple of shorts on a Luckycraft D-20 off of a main lake point. I also caught a short and one that went 2.83 on a black blue jig w/ a blue trailer, in the willows fishing pockets and main lake points. Look for the dead willows as it seemed more fish were hiding in them. The water clarity I believe will play a major role in where the fish are hiding, if its clear I would look 5-8' through the willows and 8-15' on points. if its muddy, 8' or less on everything even moving up to a foot of water. As far as the buzzbait and spinnerbait bite, I know it was there, but it just wasn't happening for me. Good luck
  8. Shane, I am not sure how the fish are acting now, but I fished a tournament on June 29th. The clarity of the water was amazing that day, especially for Truman. If the water has gone back to being murky or even muddy then I would fish shallow, in the willows. The jig would probably be my bait of choice. I know the weekend of the 28th, and 29th there were alot of jig fish caught. Like Denjac said, if there is a topbite, throw a prop bait, Buzzbait's were working fairly well a few weeks ago. As far as were to fish, there is alot of extra water and I am not sure how high it is now. Find the willows, thats about all I can tell you. Good Luck
  9. Boys, this is a great topic... Although there is nothing like a good topwater bite, like rps said, doesn't matter if its the all out explosion, the toilet bowl flush, or the silent dissapear. However, nothing gets me going like the falling collapse bite as Mr. Don house refers to it as, or the pressure bite. Watching your line go with the falling jig or plastic, you see a slight line jump and thats about it.... you know she's there, reel down and rip her a good one. Another fantastic bite is the pressure bite, you may feel a slight tick, almost like you just jumped over a rock or log and then you feel the pressure build, or the one were your reeling back to the boat and your lure doesn't feel quite right, 'cause a fish is swimming right towards you at about the speed your reeling. Gentlemen, these are the things that keep us fishing Happy Fishing
  10. yeah those two are a force to be reckoned with... thats for sure, they took third overall in the team series. Today was an entirely different story than any of us expected... the sun was high, the wind was fierce, and the swells were huge. Fishing some parts of the lake was nearly impossible and only a few guys managed to find em. 17 lbs and some change on the Pro side... 9.55 on the AM side. Only a handful turned in a limit. Fishing was definately alot tougher today.
  11. Techo, Its gonna be another big fish bash, kinda like april on the rock. 20+ lbs for top three. 21 something for 1st and 2nd and 20 something for third. Top ten I believe were 16+ maybe even 17+. Big fish caught by Sonny Chafin and Jerry McCutchen, 6.38lbs. needed over 5.75 to place in big bass. Cloudy today, the sun tomorrow is going to change things a bit, but we should see many more hefty stringers, hopefully one of 'em is mine . If you get up here to fish in the morning, good luck to you as well.
  12. well guys, thanks for all the info and best of luck to us all. I am looking forward to this weekend and hope to see you all there.
  13. Whack'em I agree with a size limit on the Rock. There is no need for ocean sized vessels on the lake, A typical sized ski boat does the trick if you absolutly feel the need to go tubing or skiing. say a tahoe 222 or boats of a similar size are about the largest boats anyone should need. The yachts and double decker cruisers are a bit excessive in my opinion. We really need to use LOZ as an example of what we don't want our lake to become. I mean what purpose does a 30 or 40 ft vessel serve? Another thing that bothers me, is the fact that the people who drive these boats show no consideration for the anglers, let alone anyone else on the water.
  14. Hello Brian, glad you could join
  15. Lilley, You have done a quality job on this map. It looks pretty complete to my eyes. Trav is one with tons more experience though, maybe he can figure out what was left out, if anything. Good work, it looks sharp too.
  16. Talked to a guy who fishes Truman fairly often.... He told me to bring a chain saw, lots of luck, and to throw whatever you feel comfortable throwing. Do you guys know where the launch and weigh-ins are by chance?
  17. Bclift, thanks for the info, hopefully the lake stabilizes and we don't get another gully washer like we've been having.
  18. Techo, hope to see ya there, I will be the smallest guy around. Good luck on your scheduling conflict as well
  19. Well good luck to ya, and maybe I'll bump into you that saturday, I will be there for the weigh in and pairing meeting, hope you find the mother load
  20. Captmac, thanks for the info. I will be fishing the Am side on that sunday. Are you going to fish the Pro/am as well or just the team series?
  21. Took my Dad out this morning for a little while, from 5 to about 9. We went just wanting to wet a line and play with our new old boat. We fished the area around point 1 for most of the morning, starting with top water and just playing around seeing what they would and wouldn't bite. It was also just one of those days when we couldn't keep a fish on the line. The top water bite was not on for us this morning, I was throwing a Tango Dancer ( similar to a spook) and Dad was throwing a Floating double jointed rapala, no takers whatsoever. We did have a school of whites come up but I couldn't catch up to them in time. Couldn't reach them with a spoon either, i tried though. I then switched to a Chompers Salt & pepper grub and picked up a couple of shorts and had a couple of fish that pulled some drag on for a little while. Dad started throwing a 3 " swim bait and he too was having the same problem of keeping 'em hooked. He laid into a couple of nice fish as well, one broke off and the other swam straight for the boat, spitting the hook right under us. I was playing around with a dropshot a little here and a little there, and picked up a short smallie, with missed bites as well. Chomper's brown/purple lam... amazing color. Missed a couple on a watermelon candy as well. All in all a fun day, not to many to show for our efforts but we had a great time, got all the little quirks worked out of my boat too. What better way to spend father's day then out on the water?
  22. Hey guys, maybe you all can help me out up there on Truman. I am familiar with the lake somewhat, but have never really fished for the Lakes quality Black bass. I will be coming up to truman the weekend of the 28th and the 29th to fish a tournament and not really quite sure what to expect. What kind of presentations are working right now and in a couple of weeks? I am familiar with the Rock and the top water bite is really starting to pick up, is it the same on Truman? We will be launching out of Warsaw and any information you guys can provide me with is much appreciated... as of this point I am going up there blind. Thanks for all the help in Advance, Troy Gregg
  23. Hello to all, I am glad to have finally taken the step to join this wonderful site. Phil, thanks for putting all this together and thanks to everyone else who gives us all the information that they do. I am 24 years old, and born and raised right here on the Rock, I just wish I can contribute my fair share... although, Mr. Babler and others leave a big shoe to fill. I have been fishing the Rock, as well as our other beautiful lakes, for as long as I can remember, but thanks to this site I have really begun to improve by leaps and bounds. I just recently started fishing the Heartland Pro am circuit and I owe a top five finish on the Rock, to this site. Again Thanks to all, and thanks for having me. Troy Gregg
