  1. hey, you might want to try flytying forum.com. Either that or troutnut.com Either one should have some posts to help you out. Travis
  2. I was out on the water as well on the 25th. I got out there at about 9:45 and had a heck of a day as well. The first fish was my biggest, about a 23-24 inch male rainbow that was spewing. I caught most of my trout on an amber colored # 14 scud with a copper rib. I saw one guy catch a brown, nothing of signifigant size. I caught around twenty five on scuds and moved up stream aways and caught about 10 on a #12 prince nymph. I also caught alot of silver bullets, but I did catch one rainbow with par markings on it. Cool as heck to catch our next generation of fish.
  3. I had you guys on my mind today. I tried to tell my bass that I had a bad case of trout flu, but that didn't work. It looks like conditions were tough and that any fish that was caught should be treasured. Very nice brown, and a nice photo to boot. I'm going to go down of Dec 11th if anyone wants to meet me.
  4. Ok, I live in KC by Alex George and James A Reed. If you go, look for gravel roads to where the MDC Stocked the trout at. This year they are all browns and I have had success on 1/16 oz white spinners with silver blades. This is heavy equipment for me, I am more used to 1/100th oz jigs, but these have not been successful for me. Fish these spinners slow and about three feet from the surface. As far as fly fishing, I have had minimul success except for white wooly buggers with flashbabou for the tail. If you want to go during the week some time let me know. Tgard
  5. Hey I was there today and caught a cuople of browns and saw a few more.
  6. Hey guys, I want to get down there badly, BUT I work weekends at a golf shop. I am crossing my fingers for bad weather in KC on Saturday so that maybe I won't have work on Sunday. If i can, I will be down there but if i can't I will post on saturday night. Travis
  7. Hey, I haven't been down south recently but I have talked to MDC about trout stocking for the winter urban trout program. They said that the delay for the urban program was due to a problem in the hatchery, the woman that I talked to wouldn't specify the problem. They stocked the ponds up here in KC nearly three weeks late and they were only brown trout something that I have never seen before. I was going down to hickory on tues, but probably going to head over to crane with the lack of stocking news. tgard
  8. THanks for the reply. Ollie I'll try to be down there on thanksgiving weekend. I don't blame you for being protective of your spots, especially because you don't know who I am.
  9. Went out to capps on tuesday. The water was pretty clear and around 60 degrees. Started up by the mill and caught a small rainbow on a pheasant tail. Went down further and caught one more on a size 20 black midge. Things got slow from there on out. I hooked into one fish on a size 8 cone head brown wooly bugger, it put up a good fight and snapped my tippet on me. That was possible the biggest brown that I have ever hooked into. I kept wading down the stream and didn't notice too many more fish out there. Can anyone tell help me on were I could find a good spot for browns out there, it is a very pretty stream and I only catch and release.
  10. Hi, I'm pretty new to reading generation charts and was wondering if someone could help me. I read the chart and was wondering if the river is too high to wade. If someone could help me with this i would appreciate it.
  11. Hey, I just went there yesterday and the trout were nuts over size 0 undressed Aglia. I alsop caught a few on some black and yellow jigs. Good luck
  12. Hi, Im from KC but im thinking about going down to CRane on Friday. I've never been there before and I was wondering if anybody had any advice as to which flies to use. Thanks, Travis
  13. Went to Hickory on the 21st, and man was I dissapointed. I've been there three times before and had a wonderful time. But you can tell that the bait buckets have been there. This could be a great stream, but the MDC needs to either enforce a more strict bait regulation opr there needs to be a trophy area. The last time I was down there I noticed four pools that had at least 15-20 fish each. This time I noticed one pool that had anywhere from 7 to 9 fish in it. The regulations down there almost make it pointless to stock fish in this stream. I love this stream, but it seems that the only way that this stream will ever be a good fishery is if that they empose a tighter leash on the fishing. I did catch three fish, but the fact remains that if Hickory is to be a good fishery, then something needs to change.
