  1. Trips on. We're packing right now. Gonna bring the duck suits. Sounds like a spring rain weekend! I think we'll probably stay another day or three and fish the Norfork too after Seth gets "tired" of DRC. What side of the Norfork does one start a wading day? Does anyone have a link to a map with the fishing access points detailed? Thanks. Gold Honda van, KS plates, Father/Son... that will be us. Can hardly wait. Merry Christmas all! KBS
  2. I'd like to give my 12-yr old son a day at DRC for Christmas this year. It just seems that with a new reel and rod case for Christmas, he needs to put them to good use. The long-range weekend forecast looks promising too. Rain but warm! We are already planning on hitting RRSP on Friday. And now I'm thinking of heading on down to DRC on Friday PM and fishing DRC on Sat. I need some advice on a close-by no-frills place to stay and what patterns to have tied up. Are #14 sowbugs still a good bet? How about dries? He likes tying/fishing with them. Is DRC all bank fishing or should we plan to have the waders? What about licenses? Thanks! KBS
  3. PC Glad you finally made it down. Sorry I wasn't able to meet up with you. Seth and I are planning to go next Friday and/or Saturday after Christmas. Maybe we can get together then. What color of SJWs were working? KBS
  4. Thanks Chief and Buzz for the report and pics. Where'd you guys put in/take out? I used to fish Indian there at Anderson some 25 odd years ago. Grandma S lived there and we'd go down to the swimmin hole behind the post office. I would innertube my way down a mile or two catching goggle eye and smallies. Dad and I would seine crawdads for bait there at the spring near the train overpass on old 71. Drank the spring water too as the sulphur water in town was terrible! Ah what fun that was. After a looong 25 yr break we're back to camping with my kids near Pineville on Big Sugar at Mac's Big Rock Park. Got a pic here on my desk of my grinning son holding up his first Sugar creek smallie last summer! Can't wait to get back down there. Might have to do a float on Indian sometime too this spring. kbs
  5. My son and I and a friend from work got to the cleaning station parking lot around 8:15 on Saturday. We started fshing in the pools above and below the handicap access pads. Action started quickly for all. On my second cast a 5+ lb pig grabbed my yellow and white big chicken and thrashed wildly for a few seconds. Then threw the hook. Got my pulse going and took off the chill. A minute later Seth yelled as he hooked a whooper as well. He wasn't ready for it though and had his drag set too tight. On the first big run, the fish straightened his rod and snapped off. This was on a blue and pink conehead. Meanwhile my friend, Steve, got his turn with a yellow and orange bunny bug and hooked a nice one. He fought it for quite a while but it finally took him into the rocks and shredded his tippet. 15 minutes later I hooked and landed a nice 4+ lb rainbow on a yellow and orange bunny bug. I bumbled the kodak moment though and released the fish before Seth got a picture. What a start! We fished from the 2nd show hole to the rocks in the C&R area. We brought to hand around 40 between the three of us. Action was the typical hot and cold. We did well on a sowbug, micro SJW, dead scud, Griffiths gnat, white marabou midge and olive marabou midge. I landed two more over two lbs and ended the day with a nice 2+ lber. All feisty rainbows today. Weather was incredible and gloves came off around 10AM. Wind was gusty at times but it was clear and sunny and we stayed plenty warm. We saw the eagles soaring above and no doubt laughing at us. We also saw 2 dead beavers in the stream that looked like they had died from lead poisoning. Not crowded at all today. The streamside was nearly empty several times with the most people that I saw fishing down further in the C&R area. Thanks to Tim for suggesting the big, brightly colored flies to get big one's attention. They work! What a wonderful Dec day to be at Roaring River. We're already planning a birthday trip there in two weeks. KBS
  6. Brian Glad you survived. Paola Cat, my son and I spoke with you on the Niangua. We were just leaving and you were just getting there. Sorry we didn't ask your names. We wondered who was so lucky to be able to do some serious fishing. I look forward to reading your report. kbs
  7. >>Had problem with all the leaves and junk in the water I hear ya... With the wind, the trees were really shedding. Amazing how the leaves hit on anything we threw! Nearly every cast too. Some even put up a good fight! The falling acorns were something too. This was the first time for me on the river and I was really relaxed. No crowds, bigger water and fewer tree snags. What I noticed about the fish we caught was the lack of the spawning colors. Only one that I caught had that glow. Much different than 2 weeks ago in the park where nearly all had colors. Good fighters though. Beautiful day to be down there. Can hardly wait till the C&R. KBS
  8. I tied up some #20 white marabou midges last night based on the one you gave me. I first tied on a single strand of flashabou. Then tied on about 4 herls of white marabou and wrapped it forward and tied it off. Then spiralled up the flash in about 4 wraps. Tied off and that was it. Is there any other color that might be worth tying up in this pattern? There wasn’t supposed to be any lead weight in these was there? You reckon this is patterning the fish guts? OK some #16s would be huge but nice on the eyes for sure. Troy
  9. OK, rub it in. Awesome weather. Glad you made it down though. I hope it's nice when we head down end of next week. I'm ready! Guess I'll tie up some marabou midges too. Look too simple to work. How did you fish them? Should be fun on the new 7' 3-wt. Thanks Troy
  10. Thanks PC for the on-the-creek how-to. My son and I really appreciated your help and made our first trip to BSSP a fun time. We're hooked and headed back after Labor day. Thanks also for the red copper johns. They really saved the day last Sunday. Went from cold to hot in one cast. Troy
